1. Seems like abs system comes on when braking and car almost completely stopped. 2. Thud comes up through brake pedal and brakes release car to roll an additional several feet before coming to complete stop. 3. Dealer replaced left front wheel hub and sensor.
While driving between 25 and 30 mph consumer applied the brakes, pedal went to the floor, and there was complete braking failure. Consumer stated had a plenty of time to mental think how to stop the vehicle. Consumer drove the passenger side in a narrow alley, scrape against the wall of brick house to stop the vehicle. Dealer could no find anything wrong with the brake system.
Brakes had been sqeualing for a few months, locking up at mostly slow speeds. Consumer noticed that retractor springs on rear brakes are rusted through.
Abs brakes malfunctioned. When brakes were applied over rough terrain pedal became hard , resulting in extended stopping distance, causing a collision. Driver sustained minor injuries. Manufacturer will be notified.
The rear abs brake system causes the vehicle to have a very long stopping distance. You get the feeling that you are not going to stop in th distance needed. Very close near accidents many times. Excessive front brake wear and repair required.
I purchased this vehicle used (under warranty) in 9/00. I made a trip to maryland on 10/09/00. Enroute I had to make a panic stop and the brake pedal went to the floor. On normal stops the brakes seem to work fine. I reported the incident to century Ford. They advised me that the system was working fine. Over the winter months on a hard stop on snow covered roads the abs system did not seem to work. I again reported it to the dealer. On 3/9/01 I stopped to get gas and after filling up I proceded to the fuel desk to pay(aprox. 25-40 ft. ). I applied the brakes and the pedal went to the floor and the front bumper hit the guard rail at the building. I immediatly went to the dealer and advised the service dept. Of what happened. They scheduled it in on 3/12/01 and found "left rear axle too long, drum not covering brake shoes". On 3/22/01 the axle and shoes were replaced. The pedal still will go to the floor on a hard application. I requested that the damaged front bumper be replaced due to the brake problem and my request was denied. Do you have any other reports of this type? thank you for your assistance.
When applying the abs brakes on wet pavement front brakes lock up, causing vehicle to come to a very abrupt stop. Cause unknown. Please give any further details.
No summary listed for above vehicle.
The left rear wheel seal moved out of the axle housing, and caused fluid to get on brakes. This has affected the braking ability, at panic stop vehicle pulls hard to the right. The seal was replaced for the first time at 4700 miles, and has been replaced 4 more times since. The dealer denied that the axle housing was defective. Scc.
While traveling within the posted speed limit and approaching a green light at an intersection, two vehicles traveling at a safe distance ahead of me decided to stop at the green light to allow a police car through the intersection traveling perpendicular to us. I braked to stop thinking I had plenty of time. The brakes did not function as I think they should. Everything locked up and I bumped into the car in front of me. It was not a hard hit as I almost stopped. The car was not damaged but my truck had the bumper ruined and other relatively minor damage. I feel the brakes did not work as designed and the gentelman at the body shop says he has heard similar complaints from numerous Ford Ranger owners. Is there a history of this reported?.
Braking system malfunctioned, brake pedal to the floor, causing extended stopping distance which resulted in a crash. Dealer could not determine the cause of the problem.
Traffic in front of my vehicle came to a complete stop, I stepped on the brakes, (no I did not pump them), the pickup took a lot of distance to come to a complete stop. I had probably three car lengths infront of me and I hit the trailer hitch of the pickup infront of me. I contacted the dealer where I purchased the vehicle and they told me it didn't fail. That was it.
Truck pulls to the left under moderate/hard braking. Dealer has examined but problem continues.
Ford Ranger 1999. When truck hit 100-150 miles ,it started pulling to the left when you would brake. At 1000 miles,it started pulling to the right. By 1500 miles it would pull either way, or maybe not at all! now it is pulling hard hard left. If unaware or caught off guard, it will yank the steering wheel out of your hands. Very dangerous!! I have almost hit other vehicles and even the cement freeway divider. I will let no-. One else drive. It is too unsafe. . . I also had a 1998 exact same truck-exact same problem, even after 7 service visits/ and days taken off work. Earnhardt was unable to fix the problem and Ford didn't know what it was. Ford finally bought the 1998 back from me and put me in this 1999. . . . The '99 has not been in the shop, yet, until Ford manufacture can figure out a solution. . On the 1998 that earnhardts tried to fix everything they could think of with no satisfaction!!! this process is very hard on my nerves and my love of Ford vehicles. It is an experience I never wanted to have to go thru again. In short: I believe this truck is very very dangerous and should not be on the highways or streets! ( dot number: ).
Several attempts to repair abs brakes have been made, none lasting more than 20 miles. I have requested a test drive with a Ford factory or district representative but neithet the dealer nor Ford will honor the request even after 15 phone calls to the dealer and Ford customer service .
Brakes had to be replaced all 4 at 8,380 miles.
Shortly after purchasing the truck, I noticed that when the vehicle was cold, the distance needed to stop the vehicle was greatly increased the first couple of times I applied the brakes. When cold, even when a great deal of pressure is applied to the brake pedal, I can not bring the truck to an abrupt stop. It is especially noticable when attempting to stop going downhill. I have reported the problem to 3 local Ford service departments. None have offered any solutions to the problem or they deny that there is a problem. Most recently, I had the brakes replaced at phil long Ford of denver llc. When I complained to them that the brakes still took a longer time to stop the truck when cold, I was told that they have had similar complaints about the brakes on the Ford Ranger but there is nothing that can be done until the brakes warm up.
Front rotors are out of round. When the brakes are applied they pulsate, and steering pulls from left to right until the vehicle comes to a complete stop. The dealer has been contacted. Front rotors have been turned and the rear brakes adjusted at owner's expense, brakes ok since.
Brake rotors are out of round. When brake pedal is applied they pulsate, and steering pulls back and forth from right to left. Dealer has been contacted.
