I was involved in a front end crash at approx 50 mph and the air bags did not deploy. I have a 2000 Ford Ranger XLT extended cab. The front impact occurred on the passengers side front head light area. A car pulled out in front of me. The other car took an angled impact on the front drivers side corner and the door and drivers side air bag deployed on their car. The passenger side air bag was turned on in my truck but neither that or my drivers side bag deployed. My head impacted the steering wheel from the crash.
I was east bound doing 50 mph when a west bound chevy made a left turn into my lane, I braked a turned right impacting the chevy head on spinning it 180 degrees and back into the west bound lane. Both the chevy's air bags deployed and it broke it's wind- shield. The air bags in my truck failed to deploy; I'm the original owner of the Ranger. My truck as well as the chevy were totaled; $8,988. To fix my Ranger. My wife suffered a broken left wrist and she broke a titanium rod in her back. She had to undergo a six hour surgery to remove the broken rods parts in her lower back and the surgeon had to add more rods in her upper back to stabilize two vertibrae , which were damaged in the crash. I send Ford the accident report, body shop estimate and 20+ pictures of the truck and accident scene. Ford said the impact was not enough to set off the air bags. Both fenders were buckled, radiator was pushed into the fan, frame was bent, it took several minutes to open the pass. Side door to get my wife out of the truck. Bumper, grille and headlights were totaled. Ford offered to check the restraint control module and report their own lab findings to me, I felt this was like hiring the fox to guard my hen house. I would like to send you all photos, the accident report, body shop estimate as well as the before and after x-rays of my wife's back. My son worked at a Ford dealer for 18 years as a mechanic and told ask Ford what went wrong in the air bag system. I hope you'll get back to me I just want to know why the bags failed.

Driving 60mph on interstate pheasant flew low in front of verhicle, as the pheasant disapeared in from my view the truck did an abrupt swirve to the left, I had no steering control, the truck went from the right lane accross passing lane and hit head on into flat concrete berrier, the air bags did not deploy, over $9,000 in damage including new frame. When the truck was being hoisted onto rollback I noticed that the tie rod was hanging. The yoke where the tie rod is bolted to (cast iron) was broken off and I noticed a lot of pheasant remains on the tierod and suspension. I am very concerned that a small bird as this would cause the cast iron yoke to break, also why my airbags did not deploy. The front tire and rim did not impact the concrete berrier. When I saw the pheasant I did not react to it, I did not turn the wheel or hit the brakes, this may sound funny but the truck swirved left dirrectly into the berrier. The seat belt saved me from serious injury. My main concern is the pc that the tie rod mounts to and no air bag deployment.

We ran into car that cut us off. Our speed was about 35 mph. Neither air bag deployed, and my wife sustained a bruised or cracked sternum. The wrecker person and the state trooper both seemed to think air bags on Rangers did not deploy easily. I contacted Ford with the idea of providing useful data about their vehicle. I am not suing Ford or the likes just trying to report what might be a problem. Ford has responded by informing me that my insurance carrier can subrogate Ford if they feel Ford has responsibility. My concern is that someone investigate those air bags on Ford Rangers are deploying in an appropriate manner. This problem needs to be investigated and apparently Ford does not plan to do it.
