Tire Tread/belt problems of the 2000 Ford Ranger - part 1

While driving, a loud clanking noise was heard coming from the rear. The consumer was able to pull over and the noticed that the passenger tire tread separated from the wheel. The driver was able to change the tire. Goodyear wrangler p245/75r16 rts/#dot mk70d5dr1502.

I was driving on hwy. 40 going 68 miles per hour when the right front tire just popped off. I got control of the truck and made it to the side of the hwy. Because there were cars all around me when the incident occured I could not get off the road quickly enough and thus so causing the entire rim to be destroyed. The tire came off in one big ring and flew into the highway causing traffic to have to go around it at a high rate of speed. I had to Dodge traffic that was already having to go around to the side of the road I had to be on to get the tire out of the path of on comming cars. I retreived the tire and kept it to investagate if it was a recall or not. I had an accident on 5-12-04 when one of the other tires just like that one had blown out and caused my truck to roll and skid down the hwy. Ending upside down. I had to go to the emegency room and be checked out. I sustained scrapes and brusies and broken ribs. I didnt think it would be the tires since these were not the tires that had the recall on them. But after the other tire blew I figured it needed looking into. I had to have my truck repaired through my insurance company and pay the deductables for it to be done. I paid for two tires and a rim replacement. The internet said that there was a volentary recall on the tires that I had and gave me a number to contact them about it but when I called the lady said it was not one that is one the list. I wanted to file this complaint so that if there were others out there that have had the same problem maybe they will recall these also before someone gets hurt real bad or losses a life. There tires should not be allowed on the roads.

While driving 35 mph front passenger's side tire tread separated, causing a tire blowout. Consumer managed to pull over to change the tire.

While driving 60 mph the driver side tire tread separated from the wheel (firestone wilderness ht#p225/7015).

The driver's side tire experienced tread separation.

The vehicles left rear tire thread separated, blew out and came completely off the rim.

Right side front and back tire had tread separation within mintues of each other. This happened while consumer was driving at 75 mph. Original equipment, 16k miles, mounted on a Ford, Ranger 2000.

While traveling about 40mph and without prior warning,right rear tire tread separated. Firestone, wilderness, p-225/70r15/.

While traveling on highway about 70mph consumer felt a vibration and thumping noise. The left front tire tread separated. The tire is a firestone ht.

First 2 front tires needed to be replaced at 19525 miles because the tread was starting to separate and the steel was showing through. On 11/4/01, I was driving on a highway @ 65 mph and heard a very loud sound from the back of the truck. The truck was uncontrolable and I slowed to a stopping speed and pulled over. The rear passanger side tire had the entire side wall separated from the tread of the tire and we were on the rim. The entire tire is in two pieces, separated at the seam of the tire. We went to the firestone dealer in town and he told us there was nothing he could do. . . And assumed that we had not rotated our tires, that the tire must have been in the front, and the "blow out" must have been due to a hole in the tire. He wouldn't even look at the tire. After replacing the tire, we noticed the other side of the tire was very worn and close to separation, also. We have the defective tire and can send pictures. Tread was separating on the tires. Firestone was aware of problem.

Pe00 020 ; driver's side and passenger's side tires tread separated from vehicle. Also tires didn't hold air. P225/70r15, dot w2uuvv. Dealership was aware of problem.

While driving the truck, the right front wilderness ht tire blew out due to tread separation causing damage to the vehicle.

Consumer had recalled (00t-005) tires replaced and request reimbursement for all five tires and time spent calling and waiting for repair. Nlm.

The right rear tire separated and blew off, just like the ones in the recall! fortunately, I was not traveling very fast and was able to control the truck and get it pulled off the road on an embankment. I was not injured, but felt this information should be made public, so this tire of firestones can be investigated also, before there are innocent people hurt or killed. Pe00 020; consumer was traveling about 35mph on highway and heard a noise. Rear passenger's tire tread separated. She was able to pull vehicle to the shoulder. There were no injuries.

Peoo 020; consumer was checking tires and noticed cracking at the base of the treade. He took vehicle to firestone for inspection. Firestone wilderness #at, p22570r15, #dot hyuu. Firestone dealership told him that he can't have his tires replaced br pro rated. There were no injuries.

A spare tire from firestone would need to be replaced because of all the information indicated was on recall. But dealer nor manufacturer would replace the tire. Firestone,wilderness at, p235/75 r15.

Firestone wilderness ht tire(p255 70 r15) experienced tread separation.

While traveling at 70 mph and without any indication consumer heard a loud noise, right side of vehicle dropped down to the rim , tire had a blowout. The side wall of the right rear tire was completely detached due to factory defect. Tire size p225/70r15 and dot # hyuu1p0120.

I was driving on the freeway when I heard a loud "boom" on the rear of my truck. I had not hit anything. I pulled off the freeway and discovered my tire had blown out. Upon inspecting the tire, I noticed a 1 inch rupture in the center of tire between the treads. I'm lucky this rupture was not bigger. I have under 7000 miles on these tires and quite frankly I'm afraid to drive on them. I think the recall should be expanded to include these tires as well. Front tires had been peelling off, and tread separating from the tires, just like shown on the news.

Firestone wilderness ht tire p22570r15 on a 2000 Ranger . One tire failed, another tire is beginning to split down the center of the tread. Dot #w2uu.

Facts as per the insd. Insd was traveling interstate 20 in the left lane, veh was in cruise control at 70 mph. Insd heard a noise and the vehicle started leaning to the left, veh. Drifted onto the median. Veh. Then flipped over. The tires on the vehicle are firestone wilderness ats and the size is p225 70 r15.

Two of the firestone at tires experienced tread separation problems that caused the tires to go flat.

Firestone wilderness at tire p215/75r15 experienced tread separation, the tread wrapped around the axle causing a crash and damage to vehicle, Ford and firestone have been unresponsivel to consumer.

30842urbm09523-3 one tire split down the center of treads during driving (20,000 miles) others tires are beginning to split down the center of the treads. Currently 25,000 miles. Ford inspected them, would not replace, still have to contact firestone. ( dot number: 027476 tire size: p225/70r 1 ).

F**number 1 had a blow out, and rolled the veh. Front driviers side tire blew out. She was taken to st elizabeth hospital in beamont, in icu. A* to handle under 403. S**possible sub on firestone tire, investigation still pending. (claim# 53-c571-876).

Tire blew out causing veh to go out of control and veh flipped. Tony, the tire is a firestone wilderness. Original equipment with 9911 miles on it. It was on a 2000 Ford Ranger. We do not have the tire size or dot standard code. (claim# 75-2317-759).

I felt a small bump that I later found out was a soup bone that I ran over right after leaving my townhouse. I proceeded to route 97 going to work. I was traveling at 65 mph when I heard a noise like a helicopter overhead and then the truck began to weave. I pulled over quickly and discovered my left rear tire totally off the rim and cut completely round the middle. After seeing the tire (which I still have) everyone has said I am lucky to be alive and I agree. I immediately went to my Ford dealership and had the tire replaced and since the tires were due for rotation I had that done. I had no idea that this tire was causing problems for others as well. Right rear tire. Center tread of tier came completle apart just like a retread. Made it to a firestone tire center. Thank god it was a rear tire and not a front tire where all the wieght is. ( dot number: w2uu1p0419 tire size: 222570r15 ).

Firestone wilderness tire experienced tread separation, vibration also occurs with tires between 30 and 40 mph.

When the tire blew out, it left a big hole on the inside of the tire, and part of the tread was gone( dot number: tire size: 1 ).

It all started with I pulled over due to severe steering difficulties. Found tire flat. Contacted discount tire company and they said the tire steel belts busted. They said had I not pulled over I probably would have crashed the vehicle and potentially died due to the severity of the blowout. I called firestone and they refused to replace the tire or deal with the problem. I called the dealer and they tried getting firestone to pony up to the problem to no avail. I showed the tire to two other tire retailers and they said it was a defective tire - that such separation should not occur after 31 miles. I had my husband then go to the dealership and firestone to discuss the problem to no avail. I finally, fearing for my safety, had them put new tires on all four wheels (bf goodrich radial t/a). I figured if firestone wasn't going to own up to their problems it would take my death for someone to do something. I am not willing to take that risk. I am reporting this now because I did not know whom else to report it to other than the better business bureau. I listened to the hearings and decided to submit this report. I suggest you check nationwide with the tire replacement dealers if you really want an accurate number of how many blowouts/tire failures have really occured.
