Two problems related to engine burning oil have been reported for the 1996 Ford Taurus. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Bolts on oil pan gasket were torqued improperly causing rubber seal to failed and oil to pour from the oil pan resulting in a burning smell.
Burning oil odor starts after the vehicle has warmed for about 20 minutes. While sitting idle, the odor eminates from the engine and blows through the heating system into the passenger compartment.
