1 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/26/2016

May 2016 I was driving my car and it felt like the transmission was slipping and the speedometer was all out of wack, the rpm's were going higher as I stepped on the gas pedal. I had the transmission replaced, the car has had more problems and was broke down for almost the remainder of the year. Dec. 2016 had a new starter, power steering pulley, and serpentine belt replaced. Car ran great for 3 days then the speedometer wasn't working and felt like the transmission is slipping or completely going out. I can't afford to repair this car I just finished paying off the $900 transmission job, plus I am still paying on the car! I am a single mother on disability with no money for repairs or another car. Please help.

2 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2013

While driving the car at a low speed, deer ran out in front of me and I braked to stop and at that time the car surged and accelerated at a high speed which caused me to lose control of the car and hit a tree head on. I pressed the brakes as hard as I could and the speed would not decelerate. I suffered a large head injury that required 54 staples to close the wound. I spent over a week in the hospital, including an icu stay. This car is dangerous and is causing injuries and possible deaths.

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2010

The contact owns a 1999 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that the vehicle surged forward while stopped and while driving at various speeds. The contact had to shift the vehicle into neutral in order to stop the failure. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 130,000. The VIN was unavailable.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/14/2005

The contact heard an explosion outside his home on December 14, 2005 at approximately midnight. He came out of the house to find his 1999 Ford Taurus on fire while parked. The fire appeared to be localized in the front engine compartment. The police were not notified, but the fire department extinguished the fire. Based on the events it believed that the fire was result of a defective vehicle speed control. Updated 1/25/2006 -.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2005

Crusie control switch stopped working. Dealer spent an hour finding problem which he said was casued by switch on brake pedal losing adjustment. Paid $90. 00 to "adjust". Several months later same problem occurred.

6 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2003

When stopped and attempting to shift into park, the engine accelerated to over 3000 rpm's, resulting in an impact to a brick wall. There were attempts to place the shift in park, turn the key off, and the attempts to pull key out were all failures. The engine acceleration continued.

7 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2003

Vehicle's engine accelerated to 3000 rpm's resulting in vehicle hitting a brick wall. When the consumer attempted to place the gear in park, the engine accelerated, it was impossible to stop the high rpm rate the engine had attained. The vehicle jumped an eight inch curb crossed a sidewalk and a grassy area of twenty feet and violently hit a brick wall. The consumer was unable to place the gear into park, turn the engine off or pull the key out of the ignition.

8 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2002

When pulling up to a gas pump or into a parking space car will accelerate in short bursts. It will do this over and over until you come to a complete stop and put it in park. This has been a problem since we purchased the car. Ford could not find any problems until a year after the purchase date.

9 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/23/2002

Car surged and shifted for no reason, engine just kept revving when I accelerated with no forward motion. No engine light came on.

10 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/28/2002

While at a stop applied brakes and engine started to race. Rpms went to 5000, vehicle is at dealership at this time. When the consumer put the vehicle in reverse to back up, the vehicle lurched forward strongly while his foot was on brake.

11 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2001

Engine will surge or race while attempting to stop. Vehicle is difficult to control or bring to a stop. Dealership has examined vehicle, but cannot reproduce the problem.

12 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2001

At various times (since 34000 miles) the engine will rev but not move forward. Sometimes I have to pull over and stop the vehicle altogether and restart, or run the engine hoping it will shift into gear. Always happens at first gear, the rpm needle is at the top of the dial and the odomoter needles sticks and doesn't move. I have had a few close calls already when coming out into intersections. Have had the vehicle checked at two different dealerships and am told a repair cannot be made until they are able to duplicate the problem. This problems is going to get me killed. I am now at 53000 miles and it continues to get worse. Where can I get some assistance. The first 3 checks on this problem occured while the car was still under warranty.

13 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2001

When depressing brake pedal to make a gradual stop vehicle will surge forward. Also, engine rpm will idle high. The surge occurs randomly and was dangerous. The dealer replaced idle control valve, but the problem was not solved.

14 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2000

My husband and I have been experiencing sporadic engine surge when applying the brakes on our 1999 Ford tarus. I have to apply a great deal of pressure to stop the car. This occurs with the engine is hot or cold, on highway driving and street driving. I reported this to wantagh Ford and the service department could not find anything wrong with my car. This problem started about 4 months ago. I called wantagh Ford and reported the problem again and they told me to bring the car in when it happens. Unfortunately, it happens when wantagh Ford is closed or I am out of state and too far away from the dealer. It happened again today Sunday, November 12, 2000 driving at 20mph when the engine was cold. This problem has also been reported to Ford area customer service. My husband and I feel this is a very serious problem and the next time it happens the brakes will not be able to hold the car and could cause serious injury or a death. Please help us, as we are afraid to drive the car.

15 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2000

While breaking to make a turn, the car did not decelerate at a rate it normally would. Even after heavy pressure was applied to the brake, the car did not seem to slow appropriately.

16 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2000

When driving very slowly and then just touching gas pedal vehicle surges forward. This happens intermittently. The acceleration of the vehicle on its own was a serious safety concern to the consumer.

17 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/01/1999

While vehicle is in operation it accelerates without warning while driving or sitting idle. Has taken to dealer, but dealer is not providing assistance. Please provide any additional information/copies of receipts for work performed.

18 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/28/1999

Vehicle began surging and slight acceleration on its own when foot off of gas pedal. Replaced alternator. Two days later, service engine soon light blinks off and on when car idles rough and has no power to accelerate. Dealership could not find out problem. Took car back again 3 days later same problem. Replaced pcm and fuel injector. Two days later, again same problem occurs. Dealership can't find problem.

19 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/15/1999

Consumer states vehicle will accelerate causing vehicle to jerk.

20 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/22/1999

Intermittently, the vehicle will surge/lunge forward while in gear when stopped in idle with the brakes applied, the vehicle has been taken to the dealership twice for this problem(4/22/99 & 6/10/99). The dealership was not able to solve this problem.

21 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/19/1999

When coasting vehicle accelerated on its own. This has been an ongoing problem since February 1999. Vehicle has been taken to the dealership 6 times for this problem. Dealer stated there was nothing that could be done about this condition. The vehicle also holds rpm when the driver takes foot off of gas at 30-40 mph, that it is the design of the vehicle to allow for the rpm's to maintain at a high rate when releasing accelerator pedal, consumer feels the problems are not related.

22 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/01/1999

When driving in low speed the vehicle raced real high. Consumer had to put vehicle into park in order for the engine to stop racing high. This is the third time that this problem has occurred, and vehicle has been into the repair shop once. Dealer wants the vehicle back in the shop to do some testing.

23 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/01/1998

The contact states while driving vehicle accelerated on its own. When attempting to stop the acceleration with brake pressure the vehicle shook and lurched forward. The vehicle has been seen by a dealer, but the dealer was unable to duplicate the problem.

24 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Transmission lunges vehicle forward at slow speed causing driver to brake vehicle or risk accident. Dealer has investigated twice with no reported fix or problem occurring. This is a safety problem that occurs only with the 3. 0l-2v engine/transmision combination.

25 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Vehicle accelerated at a stop. Applied brakes, but vehicle continued to accelerate.

26 Vehicle Speed Control problem

During low speed operation, at the 1st to 2nd shift/engagement point, with no throttle, the engine rpms increase (200-500 rpm) resulting in an abrupt increase in vehicle speed. This typically occurs in parking lots and during stop and go driving. This drivability issue creates a severe hazard in the close quarters scenario I have described.

27 Vehicle Speed Control problem

When drving vehicle will intermittently accelerate. Dealer has been contacted.

28 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Vehicle does not slow down when foot is taken off the accelerator, consumer has to depress the brake to adjust the speed which causes the brakes to wear quickly. Nlm.

29 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Consumer is having a problem with the acceleration, and says at times it seems to accelerate when you attempt to stop or slow down, and then when the brake are applied the vehicle does not stop properly. The consumers husband was advised by the dealer to replace the idle air control valve, however that did not solve the problem, consumer feels that this could be dangerous and possibly cause an accident.

30 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Intermittently when vehicle is decelerating it vibrates uncontrollably. Dealer has inspected and repaired vehicle several times, and the problem still exists.

31 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Upon shifting vehicle into gear vehicle accelerated without applying force to the accelerator pedal, causing unwanted speed. Also, the rpms raced very high. Consumer has contacted dealer. Dealer has yet to determine the cause of the problem. Please provide any further details.

32 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Vehicle will not decelerate after you have removed your foot from the accelerator. At highway speeds can take a half mile or more for speed to reduce even while going up an incline. Requires extra braking force to cause vehicle to stop. The required harder application of brakes causes the front end to dive and creates steering problems. In stop and go traffic, the vehicle requires the driver to apply brakes almost continuously to prevent car from accelerating when the driver does not want it to. The car does not slow when driver is no longer pressing accelerator.

33 Vehicle Speed Control problem

The throttle will not return to idle when gas pedal is applied causing the driver to have to apply the brakes excessively. Dealer cant find problem. Mjs.

34 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Vehicle experiencing unassisted acceleration, Ford motor company says that the vehcile is designed this way. Mjs.

35 Vehicle Speed Control problem

While parking engine suddenly startedto to rev. Transmission was placed in neutral, but vehicle continued to rev and then ran straight into a wall. Dealer has been contacted.
