I was driving down the road and with no warning at all, my 2003 Ford Taurus starts to rev as if it was in neutral. I pull off to the side of the road, I try putting it gear with negative results. Not even a little jerk. Get it towed to a shop, they tell me I need a new transmission. Tranny just stopped with no warning. . Read more...
With no warning or problems of any kind my transmission went out in the middle of traffic. My car was stuck in the middle of the road. Nothing I could do. Buses were coming at me from the left, cars from behind and in front. This is a huge safety hazard. Had to replace with another transmission costing over 1500. 00. We will never purchase a Ford vehicle again unless this is made right by the company. We have talked to several mechanics and this is common amongst Ford Taurus'. Wish we would have known about this ongoing problem before we purchased. We also wonder why there hasn't been a recall. Is this the purpose of recalls. How many people need to complain before something is done. No wonder people are buying from Toyota. At least they own their problems and offer a solution.
Driving at approx. 30mph and my car acted like I just threw it into neutral. Any gear I tried to put it into acted like I was in neutral. My transmission had to be repaired. I am reading the message boards and seeing that this is happening alot in the Ford Taurus. Some were driving down the interstate when this happens and that could be very dangerous going from 65mph to 0. I think there needs to be a recall on these Taurus transmissions. My mechanic stated that he's fixed around 20 of them in the past year, there's obviously a problem with them.
I had just pulled out of the parking lot of my local ymca and was driving on a suburban road when all of the sudden my rpms went up and my speed went down. I was able to bring the car to a stop but loss all control of the ability to accelerate my vehicle. I brought the vehicle to a stop and called for a tow truck. The result was that the transmission had broken down. The approximate mileage on my car at the time is 70,900 miles. . Read more...
2006 Ford Taurus. Started decelerating in the middle of traffic. Engine starts and check engine light goes off and stays off so probably no dpc code. Transmission does not work at all. Ford shop said it's not their problem because it's out of warranty. It has 107,000 miles on it. It was by the grace of god that I didn't cause an accident.
I got this car in 2009 around about November. By March 2010, the transmission went out on me with no warning. Got another transmission now March 2012 I just found out to have my transmission rebuilt again and I cannot afford to have it rebuilt again. How long do a transmission suppose to last in a Ford Taurus anyway. I mean will I have to have my transmission rebuilt every two years as long as I own this car?.
The transmission quit working while I was driving down the road at 55mph with kids in the car. I have searched this and have found many people having this problem.
June 12, 2009 drive time 7300 e. Hampton Ave. Mesa, az 85209 to whom this may concern: my name is andrea m. Love. May 14, 2009 was the happiest day of my life because I purchased my first new car, a 2003 Ford Taurus ses from drive time at 11247 e. Colonial drive, orlando, FL 32817. The color is a beautiful dark cherry red, the interior and exterior looks magnificent; its roomy for my family and best of all its my first new car. Ive seen the many advertisements on television and thought to myself everyone cant get approved like they say. I went online and filled out the application and to my surprise the next day I received an email and a telephone call that I was approved and needed to come into the office to speak with a sales person. I called my entire family and all my friends and told them the great news I had just received because a week prior I had a very traumatic experience. On may 19, 2009 it rained from sun up to sun down and it was forecasted to rain the rest of the week, so my children asked me to drive them to school the next day. When my daughter opened the passenger side door to get in, she stepped into a three inch puddle of water. At the same time the battery light was flashing on and off. On Wednesday the 20th I called the drive time service center to make an appointment to have the leak looked at and repaired. The next day I took off work to take my car in to aamco transmissions and was told they could not find where the leak was coming from and that the alternator was bad, but the battery was okay. They replaced the alternator and said I needed to call the service center back to find another repair center to have the water leak checked out. I had to go another day cleaning water out of the car and buying air fresheners to rid the car of a nasty mildew smell. Thursday, may 21st I called the service center again and told them what repairs I had received.
2 transmission in my 2003 Ford Taurus. The first transmission went out in 2005 at 68,000 mile and the second transmission went out at 121,000 miles. Had to pay to have fixed and when I contacted Ford they said they are sorry but there is nothing they can help me with. Is it traditional for a transmission to go out every 60,000 + miles? I was driving down the highway at 70 miles a hour when the second transmission went and the car revved up and wouldn't go no where and almost go rearended because there was construction on highway and no where's to pull over. I also had my grandson and daughter in the car and we all were scared that we where going to get hit.
Without warning, transmission went out, after midnight in 30 degree weather, miles from home. Third such occurrence with same product. Problem will not be fixed in the near future due to being unemployed.
April 5, 2008 started off like any other Saturday, cleaning my house then going shopping at my local grocery, but this day was different. When I got in my 2003 Ford Taurus to go shopping, I turned the key to start my car and put the car in reverse, but the car would not move. I put the car in park and tried again by putting my car in reverse. Needless to say the car would not budge. No problems were indicated before that day. I called my local Ford dealership to ask them about a possible solution to my problem, but they told me I would have to bring my car to their shop. I said 'how can I bring my car to your shop when I can't drive it anywhere since it won't go in reverse'? the person on the phone told me I could have it towed to their location and when I asked how much it would cost to replace the transmission, the guy told me $3500. You can imagine how shocked I was to hear this cost! in the meantime a neighbor came to my house and suggested I call one of my town's transmission shops. I did and was told the cost to replace my transmission would be about $1500. I was also asked how many miles I had on my car and I told him 35,000. He was shocked to hear a transmission was out w/only 35,000 miles on my car. Later that day my car was towed to a local transmission shop and a new transmission was placed in my car. For one week someone had to take me to work and back home and at the end of the week I paid $1500 and got my car back home. During that week I did some research on the internet and discovered other 2003 Ford Taurus owners were experiencing the same problem I had w/my car. Seems Ford should do something to solve this problem.
I was driving the Saturday after thanksgiving 2007, was stopped at a stop sign went to pull away and make a turn then car stopped moving. I was on a two lane road, with cars coming behind me. I started car back up and put into gear, would not move. Had towed to work (Subaru, Lincoln, Mercury of beechmont). Our tech looked at on Monday and told needed a transmission. Ford l/m would not help with any cover of the repair. The car had 83,412 miles at that time. I had to put a used transmission in, which is bad and put another transmission in and that one is bad but drivable. . . . I Ford knows there is a problem they should fix it before someone gets hurt or killed. I did call Ford CO and the rep was not pleasant and really did not want to take me information, they did and nothing was done. .
Stopped at red light, was unable to move car when light turned green. No warning whatsoever. Had car towed to local shop who diagnosed as major transmission work needed and suggested I contact Ford for assistance. I contacted Ford and they advised I take to local Ford dealer and they would try to work with me on "financial assistance". Dulaney Lincoln Mercury Ford dealer replaced entire transmission. They advised the cost was $3100, Ford covered all but $1000 labor portion & tow bills.
: the contact stated the vehicle's transmission warning light illuminated. The service dealer determined the transmission needed to be replaced. No repairs were made.
As with thousands of other 2003 Taurus owners, I also have water leaking into the passenger side compartment from a design/manufacturing flaw. I also replaced the heater fan which I found to be full of water. I am also very, very unhappy with the idea that this is obviously a design flaw and Ford won't make it right because they're not having their feet held to the fire by a government agency. But wait, there's more. The automatic transmission on this car has occasionally done what is called a "neutral drop". While starting out from a stop in "drive", the transmission has (on three occasions) not engaged until the engine has reached about 2000 rpm. The resultant effect from this surprise engagement can only be described as the feeling of having someone run into the back of the car. The car was taken to the dealer where it was purchased, tests were run with no error codes found for any transmission malfunctions. Apparently the computer's memory is selective. I used to have a wife like that. I've purchased five Fords since 1994 and have had serious design/manufacturer problems with all of them. Do you think I'll buy another one? I have a long memory, and that's it for me.
My 2003 Ford Taurus's transmission died as I was driving my sons to school at 45 mph, completely without warning.
Transmission went out completely. Car went into free roll. Caused serious personal problems financially.
Power traim: transmission while I was driving the car would not move when I stepped on the gas peddle.
When slowing down, the vehicle lurched forward. This started after the transmission was serviced. The manufacturer needed to have the problem duplicated before the problem could be resolved.
When attempting to accelerate the transmission malfunctioned without warning. As a result the vehicle jerked back and forth and produced a " roaring" sound. Please provide additional information.
2003 Ford Taurus se - the vehicle in question has stopped twice while coming to a complete stop. I have questioned mechanics and they have said that it is most likely an issue with the electronic transmission's computer. But if they can't reinact it, they can't fix it. We are now experiencing additional problems with the transmission. The vehicle now "jumps" forward randomly. The rpm's increase when we are breaking and our foot is not on the "gas" pedal.
