5 Blower problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2011

2003 Ford Taurus sec wagon with a leaky windshield. Water got into my a/c blower fan housing and shorted out the a/c blower fan, caused the blower fan to fail, the automatic temperature resister switch and the 40 amp fuse in the same system due to water entering into the car from the windshield and cowl design flaw. The result is a loss of defroster and anti-fog capability resulting in a severe loss of visability due to a loss of said capability and/or functionality.

6 Blower problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2011

Purchased 2003 Ford Taurus with 49k miles 8 months ago. Blower motor and resistor have failed twice. Water is coming into the blower housing through the air intake. Recent failure at 60k happened in cold weather while on the road, causing fan to stop working and windsheild rapidly fogged over, making it impossible to see. Failure was accompanied by strong electrical burning smell.

9 Blower problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2010

I have just purchased a 03 Taurus which leaked water onto the passenger floor board also causing my ac blower motor to short out. When it is raining, humid or later when it gets cold there will be no way to keep the windshield clear of interior condensation or frost. This will make driving dangerous if caught in a storm. I have been able to get Ford to act even though a related recall existed under 03v087000. I have found many others with this problem. I have read the descriptions related to recall number 03v087000 and Ford TSB 04-15-3. I also see there is an existing complaint number to NHTSA: 10184014. The water leaks during storms regardless of whether the car is driving or sitting still. The fan first would only run on high speed and now won't run at all. This is an known design defect and I am frustrated that I can't get it remedied by Ford.

10 Blower problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2010

My blower in my 2003 Ford Taurus has been intermittently failing for a month or so. On Friday Jan. 8 it quit and will not go. The heat is fine and trickles out, but the blower will not come on at all. It was fine at 8:30pm when I picked a friend up at the airport, but was dead at 10:30pm when I picked up my granddaughter at a friends house. It appears that there has been water in the housing that has shorted out the motor. I understand that Ford knows this is a problem with these cars but is reluctant to do a recall to fix it.

11 Blower problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2010

The contact owns a 2003 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that both the blower motor and the interior lights experienced failures. As a result, hot air would not blow from the vents and the windshield could not be defrosted. The interior lights illuminated constantly and drained the battery prematurely. The dealer reprogrammed the electrical system computer and corrected the interior light failure. The blower motor failure was not corrected. The failure mileage was 82,555 and the current mileage 85,754. Updated 03/05/lj updated 03/06/12.

12 Blower problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2009

Water in the blower case or on the passenger side floor, and the blower motor only works on high speed. Contacted dealer and was told that it was a service bulletin. Asked if it was covered under recall number 03v087000 and was told no.

13 Blower problem

Failure Date: 05/25/2009

I just discovered water in my blower motor on my 2003 Ford Taurus. Recently my blower stopped working all together and it will not work at all now. I am currently going to replace the blower motor resistor and see if this repairs the problem. It seems several people have had this issue.

14 Blower problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2009

I own a 2003 Ford Taurus that the blower is bad and apparently due to water damage through the vent area, I see where on the internet this may be a recurring issue that Ford has not issued a recall on. What course of action should I take to get this resolved so I don't have to continue to buy blower motors. The car is very reliable other than this.

15 Blower problem

Failure Date: 03/25/2009

2003 Ford Taurus. Fan blower motor (for heat and air system) failed due to cowl leak on passenger side of vehicle. Known issue for Ford. Can create hazardous driving conditions if failure occurs during rain or cold weather. (lack of heat or ac to clear windshield).

16 Blower problem

Failure Date: 02/14/2009

In line with numerous other reports about the 2003 Ford Taurus, my blower motor and resister have failed due to a water leak on the front passenger side. As a consequence, I cannot defog the windshield while driving. The result lack of visibility is dangerous for my passengers and for nearby cars. Correcting this problem is not a simple matter of replacing the blower motor, but also requires a complicated repair of the causative leak. I request NHTSA to look into the numerous complaints like mine and work with Ford in issuing a recall for this issue.

17 Blower problem

Failure Date: 01/29/2009

Heater blower failed to start.

18 Blower problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2009

Rain water leaks onto the passenger side floorboard. This shorted out the heater/ac blower motor. Parts have not been replaced yet. Other complaints have been filed re:10184014. There is also a recall to replace the windshield which is the source of the leakage (03v087000).

19 Blower problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2009

Due to improper sealing on passenger side of vehicle water leaks in and damages blower motor and blower motor resistor. This renders the defroster inoperable and therefore causes a dangerous visibility situation. This is a very common problem with the 2003 Ford Taurus.

20 Blower problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2008

About 3 weeks ago, the heating/air conditioning on my 2003 Ford Taurus would only work on a high setting. A couple days later, it stopped working altogether. I took it into a mechanic, who replaced the blower motor and the resistor for over $400. Two weeks later, the blower motor went out again. I went to some random forum, and saw over one-hundred people upset because they own an 02 or 03 Taurus, and they have the same problem with their blowers. And there has never been a recall? I can't imagine how many Taurus owners are having this exact problem. All I know is that it is 20 degrees where I live right now and is going to be colder tomorrow. Not only is this uncomfortable, it is dangerous. It is clear that many others have complained about the same situation, so it's clear to me that nothing will be done. I just don't know what to do.

21 Blower problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2008

Blower motor failure.

22 Blower problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2008

One day my heater stopped blowing. I first checked the blower motor fuse, which was fine. During this process I found that the passenger side floorboard was soaking wet. After research online I found that a bunch of people have had this problem. The water apparently shorted out my blower motor so now I have no heat or air.

23 Blower problem

Failure Date: 10/24/2008

I have two vehicles and rarely drive my newer car in the rain. I took my newer car on vacation and was returning home when it started to rain. A couple days afterwards I was headed to work when my car started to fog up. I turned on the defrost fans and could barely hear the motor running. I turned to high where it ran for about 1 minute before completely failing. I figured that maybe my blower was failing. I searched on the internet and found that this is not an unusual problem with the 2003 Taurus and is a known problem (recall number 03v087000 and complaint 10184014). From what I am hearing, water is leaking into the blower unit and causing it to fail. The blower is in a completely useless due to this leak. I have called the dealership and they said it would be about $500 to fix. This is ridiculous for a design flaw in the manufacturing process. This is a safety issue and a design flaw on the vehicle. The blower was working during and up to the several hours of driving in the rain.

24 Blower problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2008

I had the problem that my blower would only work on high speed. My mechanic knew right away that it was the blower motor resistor. So went to Ford and bought a new one and replaced it. After about a month I had the same problem. It worked only on high. I had it like this for about a month when I lost the blower completely. Went to my mechanic again and he took out the motor, at which time we turned it over and out came about a 1/2 cup of water. Water is all over the glove box. Also like other complaints on the windshield the button rubber piece has expanded so what flows through there to the glove box.

25 Blower problem

Failure Date: 09/27/2008

Noticed pool of water on passenger side floor. At same time tried to run defroster and the fan would not turn on at all. Checked all fuses which were good. Mechanic assessed that the blower motor was not working. Contacted Ford dealer, was told that this is a known problem with this car and could be fixed at my expense. They would need to replace the cowl, seal the leak and replace the motor. This is not just an inconvenience, but a safety issue. Visibility is affected with no way to defrost the windows.

26 Blower problem

Failure Date: 09/21/2008

The contact owns a 2003 Ford Taurus. While driving approximately 35 mph, the air conditioning unit failed. There were no warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they stated that the failure was related to the blower motor. The vehicle was repaired. The failure and current mileages were 47,300.

27 Blower problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2008

Blower motor did not work on car. Dealer said blower motor shorted because of a leak in the cowl. Same thing happened two weeks earlier and was repaired.

28 Blower problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2008

Notice about 2 weeks ago that our blower motor was not working at all times. It has progressively gotten worse and now does not work at all. We cannot heat or cool the vehicle or defrost the windshield or side windows. I know the temp control is working because when I turn the ac on there is a faint feeling of cold when I hold my hand on the vents. I actually work for a Ford dealer and was told that yes it is a known defect where water leaks in and shorts out the fan module. The dealer told me they would install a new fan and shield so it does not happen again but it would be at my own expense. Ford has issued a technical service bulletin according to our advisors but not a recall as they don't feel it is a safety issue. How can this not be a safety concern if you can't clear your windows?.

29 Blower problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2008

2003 Ford Taurus. Blower motor failure due to rain leaking through cabin filter into blower motor. Visibility impaired when windshield then fogged. Water found on passenger floor. Blower and resistor found corroded. Dealer replaced motor, resistor, weatherstrip and defective cowl panel/rain hat. Labor + parts $412. TSB 03-15-06.

30 Blower problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2008

Intermittent blower motor, wet floor passenger side under blower, water inside the blower motor housing.

31 Blower problem

Failure Date: 03/26/2008

Heater/ac fan only working on high speed then quit entirely, found fan motor full of water . Somehow water leaks in from air inlet. Ford aware of problem but will not fix.

32 Blower problem

Failure Date: 03/25/2008

Taurus with a water leak or blown a/c heater blower motor. The blower on my 2003 Ford Taurus quit working all together. I have water draining onto the passenger side floor in rain storms. The blower would only work on high speed before it stop working completely. Refer to Ford recall number: 03v087000.

33 Blower problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2008

My 2003 Ford Taurus heater fan motor stopped working in slow speeds at about 51,000 miles, for about a month only the fast speed would work and yesterday the fan stopped working altogether. Replaced the relays and fuses to no avail, last resort will be to change out the fan motor itself.

34 Blower problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2008

Blower motor worked then quit all of a sudden when I was driving. Did not work on any setting. It was raining and windows were starting to fog. I thought I was going to wreck because I did not have any defroster. Recall number 03v087000 does not fix this problem even though its similar. I think it should include this problem because having the blower motor go out is dangerous.

35 Blower problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2008

Bought a used 2003 Ford Taurus se and after owning it 6 months, the blower motor started making noises. After a couple months of the noise, the blower motor only works on high. I replaced the blower motor in Feb 08 and it will only work on high as well. I noticed many people on the internet are having the same issue and I hope a recall will occur.
