Heater blower motor went out on my 2003 Ford Taurus. It is a known issue through Ford motor company, as they have issued a service bulletin on it. My local Ford dealer refuses to replace the motor under warranty. Water leaks into the motor that causes the problem. There are many people with this same problem. It is dangerous in the winter because my defroster doesn't work and my front windshield stays fogged up.
My passenger side leaks onto the floor and now the blower has been ruin due to the water that floods in during the rain storms.
2003 Ford Taurus. Blower motor resistor rusty and bad from leaking water. Technical service bulletin #031506. Nhtsa #10011149. A known issue that should be repaired under a recall.
I purchased an 03 Ford Taurus 5 months ago from a Ford dealership in PA. Upon the winter season's arrival, I turned on my heat to hear a loud squeaking noise. I took my car to a repair shop where I was told that my blower motor was full of water due to a faulty cowl on the car. I was told that Ford was aware of this defect, and that it was semi common, but that Ford was not going to cover it under a recall. I was also informed that I would have to pay 500. 00 to replace the cowl, the blower motor and a resistor. I called Ford to voice my anger about the situation and their response was there were basically not enough complaints and that it was not serious enough to warrant a recall. I disagree. I drive my 1 year old daughter around in the car. I am unable to defrost my windshield because of this, and can often not see out of my winder without rolling them down to let the fog lift off the windows. This is unacceptable. Someone could die as a result of this defect. Ford must be held responsible for this. There was an apparent related recall, but Ford still did not and will not take action. 03v087000 <--- recall.
The contact own a 2003 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that the heater would not blow. The dealer stated that water inside the blower motor caused the failure. They replaced the blower motor and resistor. The current and failure mileages were 44,500.
1. Heavily raining on an hour trip from home. 2. Blower motor for heater stopped working making it unable to see road, traffic, etc and making it freezing in car. Was almost in accident since unable to see. 3. Contacted Ford motor CO to check recalls. Unable to locate however if you google the problem it appears that there is a defect in the making of this vehicle resulting in damage to the blower motor and sensor. Ford is aware of the problem and has a fix for it however you must pay for the entire cost. Please see the following technical service bulletin TSB 04-15-3. . Read more...
When it came time to use the heat, which wasn't needed before this problem, the heat only worked on high. Sometimes it would not even work. Now, the air does not work as well. They work on high every once in a while, but that is it. A mechanic told me that he has seen this quite often in this year model, and while you can just replace the blower motor switch for a temporary fix, it will continually go out each year, and the only real fix is to replace the air compressor.
The contact owns a 2003 Ford Taurus. While driving 35 mph, the blower fan was very loud and the contact was unable to activate the heat. The dealer stated that the a/c heater blower failed due to water leakage. As of November 2, 2007, the dealer had not repaired the vehicle. The contact felt that the recalled part caused the water leakage. The current and failure mileages were 46,000. Updated 12-12-07. The blower motor made a noise and doesn't work at times. Updated.
I was online checking for an ac/heater blower motor as it only works on high. I discovered a recall for the Mercury sable (03v087000) regarding the windshield leaking water onto the passenger side floor. The leak drips on the ac/heater fan motor causing it to short out and to stop operating. I live in wa, I found water on the passenger side floor several times but never found the leak. I see there have been many complaints about this problem. For a temporary repair, I can replace the blower for $500. For a permanent fix, I will also have to replace the windshield, another $500. Thanks Ford, you recalled the problem on the Mercury sable, why not the Taurus.
Car was out in the rain. Water leaked into the passenger side floorboard. Had passenger side cowl replaced, rainhat kit installed, and replaced blower motor less than 14,000 miles ago to fix the same issue. Hopefully won't have to replace the blower motor again.

A few months later, he began experiencing failure with the blower motor, which caused the heater, defroster, and air conditioning to not work. The failure mileage was 80,000 and current mileage was 106,000.

Blower on heat / defrost failed due to design flaw of vehicle which allows water from ac unit to collect in heating system ultimately burning out blower motor and rendering heater and defrost inoperable.
Rain water leaked into the passenger's compartment via cabin air filter. Water passed through electrical circuits controlling heater and air conditioning systems. A short could occur, possibly igniting a fire. Finally, a puddle will form on the passenger's side floor; the size of the puddle was determined by the amount of rainfall.

Rain is entering the heater/ac box shorting the heater/ac fan. Window fogs suddenly creating hazard. It is not antifreeze or heater core. After heavy rain you can hear water sloshing around in the heater box. There is also a faint odor of a burnt electrical component. I suspect blower motor.
I noticed a puddle of water in my passenger side floor board. Shortly after, the heat started to kick off and on, then eventually kicked off completely. Now, we just replaced the heater and air conditioner motor blower and relay because the motor burned out due to excessive water damage. This water damage is apparently caused by a design defect that has not yet been recalled by Ford on the 2003 Taurus. I found this out by other 2003 Taurus owners and by the auto repair shop employee who mentioned that this is very common with the 2003 Taurus. Now I'm out $300. 00 in parts and repairs for a design defect that can continue to cause water damage and keep putting me out of money for repairs.
Water shorted out my blower motor in 2003 Ford Taurus. We had a slushy Friday and I went through a few small puddles and had no heat or defrost in 8 degree weather. Needless to say no defrost in winter is a hazard . The fix cost me $400+. Simply google 2003 Ford Taurus cowl and you will see that I am not alone. My local Ford dealer told me that it was not a recall but a service bulletin. Doesn't that admit that they are aware of a problem ? a water leak may seem minor but no ac in the desert or heat in the north is a major problem.
The heater blower of the windshield defroster stopped working the day the weather became coder after a reasonably fair weather.
My 2003 Ford Taurus' blower motor went out. In order to have heat in my car we had to replace it the same day.

Blower motor went out on my 2003 Ford Taurus 12/11/07. Repair shop found water in the blower motor cavity. Ford has a kit you can purchase to fix the problem. The entire thing cost me $310. I have found that several customers have had the same problem, the cars should be recalled. Ford has known about this since 7/15/2004 I have a copy of the TSB. I had a switch replaced last winter on the blower motor also.
Water leak in windshield dumps water onto the heater blower motor. Called dealership said not covered under warranty, replaced motor once and now must replace again. Believe covered under NHTSA campaign id number 03v087000.
Defrost blower motor quit in my 2003 Taurus. Began by acting sluggish, when wetness appeared on floor assumed it was due to the rainy weather but have since discovered this is an ongoing design defect which Ford has yet to address. Have received 1 estimate on cost to replace blower fan only $264. 00 resistor another $75. 00 loss of car for minimum of 3 hours. Have not had repaired yet but will request that old parts be returned to me.

2003 Ford Taurus blower motor went out due to a water leak that is known by Ford motor company.
During a snow fall, my wife had just started her 2003 Taurus and turned the heater/defroster motor on high. She cleaned snow off the exterior windows and when she re-entered the car, the blower was not running; it would not run at any speed. She had to drive home with no heater/defroster working. She had no choice because she had to get home. This type failure has occurred on many taurse's. Service bulletin 031506 has been issued and Ford has redesigned the replacement blower, a tacit admission that the original design was faulty. When the Ford dealer called me with description and cost of repairs I specifically asked if a TSB had been issued, the Ford dealership told me no TSB had been issued. The car was 6 weeks out of warranty and the repairs cost me $450. I have owned about 2 dozen various american cars over about 35 years and I know american car quality has improved tremendously since the 70's. But any company that treats its customers the way I was treated in this case deserves to continue losing market share. I actually hate to have to say this, but our next 2 cars will probably be japanese.
