I have a 2004 Ford Taurus ses with a 24v duratec 3. 0l dohc engine and 4f50n transmission. My wife was pulling out of a parking lot on July 19, 2011 around mid-day, when the transmission lost all forward power. She stopped the car and tried the other gears with no result. No movement in any gear, forward or reverse.
I have a 2004 Taurus and on my way home from work my car stopped dead in the road and had to be towed. There was no prior warning or issues just my transmission stopped dead in the middle of a busy road. Mechanic told me I need a new transmission. I see this is a common issue but also a serious safety concern.
After reading all of the complaints, I can definitely relate to what I'm reading. Unlike most of the people on here I actually had the transmission light come on before a drastic failure occurred. However my cars symptoms are exactly the same. It has started pulsing slightly while at freeway speeds. I'd like to keep operating it to see if it goes away, but after reading all the reviews I'm too afraid to try. Ford has finally started to develop a strong reputation for themselves, and if they want to keep things that way they better get a hold of this one before its too late. I can imagine that they aren't interested in becoming the next "Toyota" in the car industry. Come on Ford, make this right!.
Driving down the road, made a left turn, tried to accelerate and the car acted as if someone had put the car in neutral. No warning lights, no sound, nothing to give any warning the the transmission had any problems. At this time we have not repaired the vehicle but plan to in the next couple weeks, the cost will be around $1800 for parts and labor.
I have a 2004 Taurus which without warning just coasted while on the interstate. Problem identified as transmission problem. After searching web noted a web site autobeef. Com in which there were other similar complaints. I have also discussed with anyone who I note to have a Taurus during the years 2003-2005 and all of them have had to have transmissions replaced because they suddenly went out. Driving down an interstate and transmission go or in atlanta downtown traffic at quitting time is quite a danger. This would apply to all large cities. Seems the problem occurs between 60,000 and 90to 100 thousand miles. Had a 1996 that had over 200,000 miles never any transmission probelms. I think this is very dangerous due to the way it just stops. Of course when contacting Ford motor company they have denied a problem with the cars. I can actually identify personally 30 Taurus drivers in my area that have had to replace transmissions prior to 100,000 miles. We expect as much as they cost for this to last longer. The autobeef is only a small portion of the folks this has happened to. Please consider this problem of danger to the public due to the nature of the auto just costing to a stop or even just not moving forward after stopping at a light esp in heavy traffic situations.
The contact owns a 2004 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that there was an unusual increase in engine rpms and the vehicle immediately began to lose power. The vehicle would not accelerate forward or in reverse. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the converter and converter shaft had failed. The vehicle was repaired at the contact's expense. The manufacturer would not provide any assistance. The failure recurred and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The converter and converter shaft had failed again. The vehicle was repaired a second time at the contact's expense. The manufacturer was contacted and again, and would offer no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000 and the current mileage was 127,569.
Nothing, no warning. That is the major issue. Read and review the many complaints Ford is getting posted on transmissions all over the internet. It happens far to often, in many situations where people can be killed or injured. And with the Ford design, you're going to spend a minimum of $3000 for parts labor and towing. Please do something to these noncaring people. All they want is to add to an ever slumping bottom-line. I have spent nearly $9000 in repairs on Ford Taurus' in the past 6 months. Many other people have spent more. Their warranty is for crap and so is their product. Call me anytime. . . I'll talk to anybody. If America is to become a power in industry again, we all need to take a stand against the continuing efforts of our major manufacturers to push out inferior products. Imports are better now. Look at the numbers. Let's make them shape up our we will all be shipping out! I was lucky, my incident happened close to home. But, read the others and note the results. These are unsafe, ongoing issues for many motorists. Someone higher up needs to do something.
I own a 2004 Ford Taurus still under factory warranty only 28,000 miles & I have had it into the Ford dealership 2 times for the same transmission problem. It is slipping when put into drive. I put the car in drive and the car surges but then wont move. Like it is neutral. Ford dealer is telling me that there is nothing they can do for us unless they can replicate the problem. First incident they had the car for 1 week the second time 2 days.
The contact stated the transmission light on dashboard illuminated, also, when using cruise control the transmission will speed up. She took the vehicle to a local dealership; they told her it was the transmission. The repairs will be made at the consumer's expense.
On two separate occasions vehicle commenced to accelerate while in gear, but vehicle would not move. Vehicle had been to the dealer, and they were unable to duplicate the problem. Consumer states transmission shifts hard from 1st to 2nd shift. Also the check transmission light comes on. On another occasion, while cossing a railroad track the vehicle would not accelerate and the transmission neutraled out and the vehicle would not move. Dealer replaced automatic transmission assembly and other power train-related components.
Car surges forward in park on cold starts.
