Driving down the road and all of a sudden the car indicated it was overheating. So I pulled over and seen that the car was spewing coolant everywhere. From further trouble shooting I found out that the water pump was bad and that it was going to cost me over $2000. The water pump should not be going out like that when I only just hit over 80,000 miles. Ford needs to recall these water pumps they put on these Tauruss.
While driving through the city, the vehicle suddenly overheated, with little to no warning it gave me a over temperature warning, which prompted me to pull over and turn off the vehicle. After parking the vehicle I notices large amounts of coolant being spewed from the pressure relief. After replacing the thermostat on the vehicle, it continued to leak coolant, although it was difficult to identify where the leak was. After 3 weeks and some testing, the dealership was able to find a leak in the water pump. Had the leak not been found, there could have been serious overheating issues. Based on what I saw with how quickly the car overheated with and ambient outside air temperature of about f it's a wonder no Ford Taurus' has started on fire.
My car has 86,621 miles and the thermostat light came on. I took to my mechanic and they told me that there is leaking around the water pump and it has to be replaced. I had it diagnosed at a Ford dealership and they agreed. It is not under warranty because of miles and it is going to cost $1900 to replace. I take very good care of my car and have all of the service records. It is a defect in the water pump and that is why it failed.
Vehicle has 48,000 miles and had freezer plug and water pump failure. Ford was backordered by over 300 units of water pump. Vehicle was in hawaii for first year and in seattle / tacoma area since. I feel that at this mileage, along with the amount of water pumps that were on order from Ford motor that their is a defect with the water pumps and a recall should be looked into.
