1 Headlight Switch problem of the 2002 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 05/01/2015

Traveling on darkened road with automatic headlamps engaged at night. Headlights suddenly cut off, and had to change selector switch to manual head lights. This has happened several times. . I had the light sensor replaced but no change. After doing some research, the cause is most likely the automatic headlamp relay, which is not replaceable, as it is buried behind the fuse box, and excessive cost (>$300) to replace. I feel Ford should issue a recall, because it appears this is a common problem with Ford vehicles. Apparently the relay used to energize the headlights in "automatic " mode is not able to handle the current, and I suspect, burns out and becomes unable to maintain the electrical circuit. The automatic headlight feature, (when it works) is a great safety advancement, as many drivers fail to turn on headlights at dusk, therefore the automatic on feature greatly improves visibility of oncoming vehicles at dusk and early evening. Since it is not predicable when the lights will fail, many people will continue to use the automatic on/off feature, preferring to switch to manual on/of only when automatic fails. But this could be any time at free way speeds, and is therefore a hazardous condition that the manufacturer should be responsible for rectifying, as it momentarily distracts the driver. 2 Headlight Switch problem of the 2012 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 10/01/2012

When driving at night in our Ford Taurus there is a very noticeable horizontal line across the entire windshield. This divides the windshield in half and looking through the upper half is similar to looking through dark sunglasses at night while the lower half is clear. This makes it extremely difficult to see anything in front of the car, especially someone walking on the side of the road. This occurs on roads where there is no oncoming traffic. If there are oncoming vehicles with lights on this line disappears and the entire windshield is clear. If the headlights are switched to the brights position the line also disappears. This is so disturbing that my wife and I try to limit our nighttime driving to our other vehicle. . Read more...

3 Headlight Switch problem of the 1993 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 09/06/2012

Headlights went out. Fiddled desperately with the on/off switch & got them to come back on. Went out several times over the next 30 minutes . . . Discovered turning off and back on fixed. Suspected it had to do with the heat. Over the two month, recurred several times after driving for 30 minutes or so. Also found that usually pressure applied to the switch itself and jiggling would bring them back, and discovered I could hold the high beams on. Finally searched here and found 98v009000, which seems to be the same problem. Have contacted the local dealer . . . But gave them recall 98s01 (found elsewhere when looking for replacement part when I had decided that it most likely was in the switch).

12 Headlight Switch problem of the 2000 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 12/06/2005

My car is a 2000 Ford Taurus (VIN number is 1fafp55ugya213531). I have the same problem as the NHTSA campaign id number 01v075000. The headlamp switch knob is fractured and does not correctly attach to the headlamp switch. I went to the dealership in macon, GA, and was told that this specific recall does not apply to my VIN number, even though I have the same make, model, and year car. My only option the dealership gave me was to pay $80 to install a complete new light switch, even though all I need is a new knob. I was told that the knob is not sold as a separate part, only as a complete new switch. I would like this recall extended to cars like mine. This causes difficulty for me to turn on and off the headlights.

15 Headlight Switch problem of the 2000 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 06/06/2004

Headlamp switch broken. . . Again. I have had this part replaced 3 times. Twice within 12 months and replaced during the recall. Now it is broken again for a 3rd time and Ford has told me that since it was replaced and outside of the 12 months from the original recall replacement that they would not replace it again. I believe someone should make a better part. Can you say. . . Metal post and plastic knob don't work well together? sorry Ford bad call. What a pain to continually replace this part. I will be looking into missouri's 3x your out lemon law issue now.
