1 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 10/04/2012

The transmission failed as the contact attempted to accelerated uphill in heavy traffic area. I was able to coast to a stop and put the car in park. Started the ignition and attempted to shift into reverse but the vehicle would not respond. The vehicle would not operate in any gear which was selected. The vehicle was towed back to the mechanic where the transmission was replaced/repaired 18 months ago. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. Total cost of repair was $710. 00.

2 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 07/10/2012

My 2005 Ford Taurus accelerated abrubtly at an intersection at 4000 rpm. If a car had been in front of me it would have hit them. The car was able to get through the intersection and into a parking lot. The car was towed and as the tow truck driver started the car it revved up again and he was able to stop it in time. It is currently at my mechanic in pompano beach florida.

3 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2006 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 05/10/2012

5 minutes into a trip through town I noticed that it was extremely hard to use my brakes, I had to force them down and hold the brake pedal hard. When the light turned green and I released the brakes my car shot forward without my foot on the gas pedal. About 20 minutes later on the freeway I realized my cruise control wasn't working.

4 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2006 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 03/31/2012

After taking a right turn, the vehicle began accelerating on its own. I had to fully apply the brake to maintain control. It was terrifying. My whole body shook. I thought I would hit something because I did not think that I could stop the car. Even while pushing the brake pedal all the way down and shifting into d I could not keep the car under 40 mph. The engine kept revving and the car kept gaining speed. Luckily, the only light I had was green. I pulled into a parking lot and slowed the vehicle down to a stop by applying all my force to the brake. I shifted into park hoping that would keep the vehicle from moving. It caused a loud sound that sounded like an explosion and startled everyone in the parking lot. Still not sure what to do, I turned the ignition off. A parking spot opened up so I turned on the ignition, that caused an even louder explosive sound. I was still terrified but I had to act - so I forced the brake pedal down as hard as I could and shifted to d and was able to navigate into the parking spot. I put the vehicle in park again and again it caused a loud explosive sound. By now I was a spectacle in the parking lot but I was just thankful that I was alive and that no one was hurt. I looked down at the gas pedal and noticed that it was fully depressed and loose. I pulled the pedal up but there was no tension to hold it up and it dropped back all the way down. I drove the vehicle back home, in much the same way - transmission in d, applying a lot of force to the brake and hoping that I would not have to stop suddenly or get pulled over for speeding since I could not get the vehicle slower than 40 mph even while pushing on the brake as hard as I could the whole trip. And when I parked the car at home, it made the same loud sound and I also heard ticking noises coming from under the hood. I am still shaken up by the incident.

5 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 03/14/2012

The mileage listed is approximate as the car is still in for servicing. On the morning of 3/14/2012, I was slowing down to stop at a red light. The car felt like it was still accelerating, as if the cruise control was on. I hit the brakes but nothing happened. I ended up having to hold the brake down to the floor to make the car come to a stop. I tried shifting into neutral and the rpms shot up to 4. I shifted back into drive and the car still tried to accelerate. The whole time at the red light, the engine was revving and the brake felt like it was fighting the accelerator. When the light turned green and I took my foot off the brake pedal, the car accelerated. I pulled off into a parking lot and held the brake to the floor again to make it stop. I put the car in neutral and the rpms shot up again. I put it in park and the rpms were going to 5. I turned the car off thinking that may reset whatever the issue was. I waited 5 minutes before turning the car back on and when I did, the rpms again shot up to 4. I called the nearest Ford dealership to make arrangements for service and started the car again. The same thing happened. I shifted into drive and as soon as I took my foot off the brake the car accelerated. The car seemed to be stuck in cruise control, fully accelerating. The car was taken straight to the dealership and when the technician started the vehicle, he experienced the same issue. After a diagnostic test, the technician told me that the issue was with the air intake and also stated there was an electronic update for the Taurus available. I asked if this would correct the acceleration issue and he stated that it should.

6 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2002 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 02/14/2012

I have a 2002 Ford Taurus sedan, and while driving about a month ago I pushed gas pedal to accelerate, the throttles became stuck causing the cars engine to speed up to 80 mph in a 30 mph speed zone. I had to apply as much pressure to the breaks as I could to control the car, and finally I was able to pull into a gas station, with the engine still racing, put the car into park and turn off the car. I was so afraid I just set in the car for about 10 minutes to collect my thoughts. I open the hood to see if anything had broken or came apart but could not find any unusual. I turn the car back on, the engine was still racing, I looked for the accelerator cable and found it. However, I notice that the small plastic o-ring on the cable used as a stop was caught on the corner of the air intake housing. I pulled back on the cable releasing it. When I let go of the cable it went back to its normal position, the engine stopped racing and slowed to a normal idle. I crept back home were the car set for two weeks before I had the nerves to drive it again. It happen again on 3/14/12 when I pushed the accelerator pedal to pass a truck on I-70w in columbus, OH.

7 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2002 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 01/23/2012

My seventeen year old son had told me previously that the gas pedal had been sucked down to the floor and the car accelerated wildly. At first, I dismissed it as the floor mat getting tangled in the gas pedal. But then I experienced it myself and it was a wild and crazy experience to get the car under control without any advance notice that it was going to take off from a dead stop after putting the car in gear. I took the car to varsity Ford in ann arbor, mi (invoice # [xxx]) and here is the service write up language; "customer states gas pedal will stick to the floor intermittently, check and advise. Checked the eecv system and road test inspected the throttle and cable and found absolutely no problem that would cause this concern, however, recommended some pm tune-up work. Replaced air filter as maintenance. This was the first incident. I will fill out another complaint form for the second incident. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

8 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 01/15/2012

Left front spring cracked/broke, shredded front left tire.

9 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2006 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 01/10/2012

Engine keep racing and car tries to go while braking.

10 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 01/09/2012

2005 Ford Taurus - throttle sticks, vehicle will speed up without pushing on the gas. This has occurred numerous times, quite scary regardless of location or speed. This has occurred in town and on the interstate. Vehicle must be put in neutral and the gas peddle must be pushed to the floor to get vehicle back under control.

11 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 01/06/2012

I was driving my Ford Taurus at about 30 mph when the vehicle unexpectedly accelerated up to 45 mph even after releasing the gas pedal completely. Brakes slow the car but with more resistance than usual, and manually parking and restarting did not help the problem. I was able to drive about 5 miles home without ever touching the gas, but often having to ride the brakes. The engine revs very high (about 3,00rpm) even in park. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic but the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was apx 140,000. I dont know how this can pass without a recall as I read of many other instances of this with my year, make and model.

12 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2007 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 01/06/2012

We pulled out of our driveway and drove around the corner when we heard a load noise. The car had little power; therefore, we turned around and, slowly, drove back to our home. Upon inspecting the vehicle, it was found that the exhaust pipe had dropped and was dragging on the ground. I did a search for 2007 Ford Taurus exhaust system problems and found that this is a very common occurrance for this vehicle year. I am concerned that the vehicle was not recalled and the problem repaired at no cost to the consumer. As a recall coordinator at a medical device manufacturer, I understand the importance of quality in your product as well as the cost of poor quality. I do not believe that the cost of poor quality should be passed on to the consumer. Ford should have to take care of all expenses. I purchased this automobile with 14000 miles and was not aware of this problem. Though the car has a substantial number of miles, this still should not have occurred and I was never aware of this reoccurring problem; otherwise,I would never have purchased the vehicle knowing that the manufacturer was not covering the cost to repair the problem. Had we been on the highway traveling at rates of 65 to 70 miles per hour, we would have been seriously injured, maimed, or even killed!.

13 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2007 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 12/24/2011

I had driven my car in the am and it would not start in the afternoon. I called for a tow on Monday, after the holiday. The symptoms presented at the time of failure were: the car did not start, and the anti-theft light was blinking. The car was jumped and the vehicle was brought in for service. The dealership could not find any problems. Today, the car stopped working again, same issues. This time I did not allow the car to be jumped. Instead, it was towed to the dealer who was able to run a better diagnostic which appeared to be the alternator, but it could also be the computer. In researching the issue on my own, this seems to be a major problem with Ford cars and has been for years. Some were driving when the car just 'shut down. The following are just a few of the complaints that I've found. . Read more...

14 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2006 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 12/01/2011

I have a 2006 Ford Taurus. I used to live in texas and moved to buffalo area this summer. This morning when I drove my car out of the parking lot and onto the street road, the driver door suddenly opened by itself. Then I was trying to close the door while I was trying but all failed. Then I had to pull my car in the nearby parking space and stopped the car. Eventually after trying quite a few times, I could close the door. This morning was pretty cold and below freezing temperature. After this incident, I checked with some of my colleagues and friends. Quite a few people who drive Ford Taurus have experienced exactly the same issue with the driver door before. Further I did some research on internet and found many complaints on the door closing issue of Ford Taurus during cold winter.

16 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 11/23/2011

I noticed a musty smell first. After a heavy rain I noticed that my passenger foot well was soaking wet under the floor mat. I dried it up. Next time it rained it was wet again and I did notice some dripping from the top right of the foot well. Other water is coming in somewhere else, maybe behind the carpet as it is getting more wet every time it rains. The entire floor is soaked with water.

17 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 10/21/2011

A water leak which dumped water onto the passenger floor board also caused my ac blower motor to short out. I am not sure if this is related to recall 03v087000 but I know it is the same problem as complaint #10184014.

18 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2000 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 10/13/2011

The car burst into flames 30 minutes after it was parked. No one was in the car. The car was not running. The fire was under the hood. When the fire was seen the fire department was called. They arrived shortly and put out the fire. Everything under the hood, and up into the dash was burned and melted. The car was a total loss.

19 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 09/26/2011

I was driving on a major highway with my children and all of a sudden my car's transmission light came on, my car started bucking, and soon lost power and I was forced to put my car in park in heavy traffic and restart it.

20 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2001 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 09/23/2011

Car became increasingly difficult to shift out of park. At this time the brake lights were working. Found a work around on the internet that worked. Also found a recall (04s12) for same problem but my VIN was not covered and Ford will not fix. However, they do not sell the stop light switch (which is most likely the part I need) by itself anymore. You must buy a more expensive kit that includes the stop light switch and wiring on the brake pedal. Now my brake lights are completely out so we cannot drive the car. Seems if Ford won't sell just the switch then they are acknowledging that this is a safety issue and my car should be included in the recall. I found many other people with the same problem when I was looking for a solution to the shifting out of park problem. I have called Ford twice but they basically say "sorry you are not part of the recall. " and regarding whether there were a crash, if my daughter had kept driving it there most likely would have been one, as brake lights are pretty important.

21 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2002 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 09/19/2011

My Taurus 2002, three days after I bought it used, exhibited behavior just like that described in pe12005 for 2005-2006 model years. I had to limp home, alternating between neutral and drive, because the engine was stuck at approx 3500 rpm. Turning the engine off and on did not cure this. After about 20 harrowing minutes during rush hour driving through a not-so-great section of detroit, the problem went away. Ford techs could find nothing; the problem has not recurred. However, based on pe12005, I will have the position of the cruise control cable checked in case that was (or could again be) the culprit.

22 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 09/17/2011

I own a 2003 Ford Taurus with 85,172 miles on it. On a recent trip out of town, the transmission went out with no warning, and we had to be towed home over 100 miles. After some research ,I have found that many owners of 2003 Ford Taurus' have had the same problem with no warning of the transmission going out. It appears to be an internal problem in the transmission itself. I found 164 complaints on the car complaints/Ford website concerning this transmission problem. It cost me over $3600 to have the transmission replaced. That is over half what the blue book value is on my car! I want to know if Ford has looked into this problem on the transmissions? with that many 2003 Ford Taurus transmissions going out, seems to me there should be an investigation or a recall on them. I would appreciate someone checking into this problem. I really love my Taurus, but am very upset that the transmission went out on a car that has been taken care of by Ford dealerships for everything from oil changes to brakes, air conditioner, etc. Always had the service done at the intervals that Ford motor company determined needed to be done. The Ford dealership is the only ones that have done any service on my car other than tires. I feel that I have done everything to keep my car in perfect condition and am terribly disappointed that this problem happpened. Please would you check into this problem and see if there should be a recall on these transmissions?? this is a safety issue to me! if the car had stopped while we were driving 70 mph on the freeway, it could have been deadly to us and others! thank you!.

23 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 09/14/2011

I just recently purchased a 2005 Ford Taurus and it was running fine for like 2 days. Then the cruise stopped working a few days later the accelerator begin to stick. I was going about 30 and suddenly the car began to take off on its on and I nearly hit the car in front of me. I had to steering off the road and pressing the brakes was very hard. This seems to be a trend for the car and is extremely dangerous!! someone should not have to die for this to be recalled!!.

24 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 09/13/2011

I stopped at a signal light waiting to make a left hand turn. The light turned green so I pushed the accelerator and thankfully just cleared the busy intersection. I was in the outside lane of traffic and the car just stopped. I drifted to the curb. The motor still running. Put the car in park and then in gear. Pressed the gas. Nothing happened. I could tell by the sound the car was not going into gear. I turned the engine off then restarted the car. Put into gear, pressed gas nothing happened. It just sat there. I had no problems or prior symptoms with this car. No warning signs! this problem could result in some very serious accidents. After talking to a local mechanic he told me that the problem I had was a very common problem with the Ford Taurus esp. The 2003 model. He had replaced several torque converters on Ford Taurus' lately.

25 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 09/05/2011

It should be a transmission problem. When I was driving at 65mph the car lost dragging force suddenly and I had to push the car to the emergency zone. Then I cannot move the car anymore with any shift (r, d, od, 1). I found many 03 Taurus had the same problems from some other websites. The model should be recalled because it has nothing warning sound or damage clue.

26 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 09/04/2011

Was driving down highway with my 2 children in the car, going speed limit 65, when when car failed to engage, engine reeved but car would not go forwards or backwards, almost hit by on coming traffic while stuck in road. Rest of car is like new. . . . . . . . . Wtf?.

27 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 08/20/2011

First, I want to say that this vehicle is well mantained and serviced on a regular basis. It was a pleasent summer day but had more of a autumn feeling wether. I was driving on the interstate in east tennessee, I had just merge onto the interstate and had been driving for maybe 10 minutes. I slowed down for traffic to about 40 mph as I crest a hill. When I stepped back onto the gas (going down hill now), I felt the car shift into 4 gear. I then felt, and heard a pop similiar to a blowout, but in reality it was the car sliding out of gear. I had only managed to reach about 50mph when the car stop accelearating, (I put on my hazards) I was trying to coast to a safe place, but the constrution projects made no place to pull off. Within 5 seconds, a car traveling behind me was bumped by a tractor trailor and was knocked into me. My Ford mechanic says the transmission is shot and the catalytic converter went out (was that the popping noise? I wonder. ) $3500 to fix this problem. I have google 05 transmission problems and have found numerous over 500 problems that have to do with. I don't know whether Ford was trying to save a few dollars, or if they were trying to save fuel mileage, but this transmission is a serious problem. I will not buy another Ford if this problem doesn't get resolve by Ford recalling these transmissions. Last laugh, insurance compainies will repair any car to the quality it was just before the wreck (no better, no worse. ). Since my transmission went out before the car wreck, they can replace it, ergo. . . The insurance covers the body work, but will not cover the transmission. My question to Ford is does someone have to die before you fix your errors. My father worked at Ford for 22 years; he would be. . . . Really disappointed to see what Ford pass for quality.

28 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2006 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 08/04/2011

I was driving down the road and my anti theft light came on. When this light came on it felt like the car was shifting gears. Doesn't seem to come on when the car is cold but after it has ran for about ten minutes. I went to town and back which is a ten minute drive and it came on 12 times. I brought it to a Ford dealership and they thought it was my key even though it was doing it with my husbands key also. They gave us a new key and programed it. Within about two minutes of leaving the dealer ship my anti theft light came back on. I won't drive the car because I'm afraid that it is just going to die. My husband took the car today to work and on his way home all the lights on the dash started flashing and then the car just quit. He was able to get it started again and drove it home it is now parked until we can get it into a garage and figure this out. I have looked on line and it seems to me this is a very common problem with the Taurus. I would like to know if their is a recall and if you might know what is going on. The dealer ship that I talked to today said it sounds like it might be a censer that isn't working correctly. The Ford dealer ship that I brought this to already has know idea what might be going on. Hopefully the next dealer ship does.

29 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2011 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 07/08/2011

The start engine button cuts the engine off if you accidently hit it. It is right beside the radio on/off button so is very easy to hit by mistake. If you are driving 70 mph on the interstate and accidently hit it you are left with no engine power, no power brakes and no power steering. Someone is going to get killed. I have written Ford a couple of times and have gotten no response except to tell my local dealer. It's not a dealer problem. The button should have some type of cover over it. This has happened to us while driving - luckily were able to put car in neutral and restart engine.

30 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 07/08/2011

While in parking lot, car suddenly accelerated without touching the gas pedal. Held the brakes to keep car from moving and put the car in neutral. When I put the car in neutral, the rpms when up to 7000, gas pedal was not being touched. After I got the car stopped and while in neutral, I quickly pumped the gas pedal once and the engine came back down to idle. This has happened on the highway as well. I am surprised by the many reports of this on the Ford Taurus that it isn't a recall. This is the same type of issue Toyota had. Sudden acceleration. Does someone have to die before this gets recalled?.

31 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 07/07/2011

2003 Taurus 3. 0l v6 - transmission failed while driving, could only coast to stop. Was fortunate that was able to get side of road without being rear-ended by following cars.

32 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2010 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 06/22/2011

On two occasions the vehicle has stalled or lost power while in the process of driving. The first time this occurred the vehicle was traveling 20mph approximately 10 minutes into the drive. The second time this occurred the vehicle was traveling 55 mph while set on cruise control five hours into a drive. In both occurrences the display indicated to put shifter into park while the vehicle was stalled and still moving. While the vehicle was stalled the power steering and braking was disabled. After pulling over to the side of the road, placing the vehicle in park and restarting the vehicle operated normal. The Ford dealership has tried to diagnose the problem twice without success. The dealership has contacted Ford and they state they aren't aware of any problems of this nature. This is a very hazardous condition to occur while traveling 55mph on a curvy canyon road. I'm very concerned with continuing to drive the vehicle.

33 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 06/15/2011

Numerous times, when the foot was removed the accelerator, the engine did not return to idle but continued as if your foot was still on the accelerator. Would have to apply brakes and get off the road. Extremely hard to stop if going very fast. Kill the engine, raise the hood and barely touch throttle control where the accelerator cable is attached and it would snap back to the idle position. This has happened at least 7 or 8 times. Extremely dangerous!.

34 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 05/27/2011

While sitting at a stop light I felt the car trying to lunge forward. When the light turned green and I slowly released my foot from the break the car began to accelerate and move on its own without me stepping on the gas pedal. I had difficulty stopping the car completely and pulled to the side of the road and put the vehicle in park. The car started revving up and becoming very loud. I put the car back into drive and the car drove on its own. This happened again today, but the acceleration speed was more aggressive this time, I pulled over into a empty parking lot I was too afraid to be behind another vehicle because although the brakes were working I had to press all the way down to floor to get them to stop the vehicle completely. What's even worse is now my car has started to accelerate in reverse as well. After seeing the same complaint over and over on this site I do not know why the car has not been recall. This is very dangerous. I felt afraid for my life! and by the way last week I made my final car payment for this car and just days later this happened!.

35 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 05/24/2011

I own a 2003 Ford Taurus that began having water leaks that kept shorting out the vehicles blower moter resistor. These events occurred between 12/10/2010 to 05/24/2011 during which at my expense two resistors were installed. After a short period they continued to fail as did the blower motor. I took the vehicle to a Ford dealership and was told that I had water damage that caused the blower motor to fail. A new blower motor plus new cowl insulation was in stalled at a cost of $468. 42. The two resistors I previously had installed cost $80. 00 parts and labor. I did an internet seach and found this to be a common problem with my automotive modle and Ford should had a recall and fixed this factory defect. I feel I should be reimbursed by Ford motor company. I have heard that this repair should fall under Ford recall 03v087000 but the dealership says no. It is my understanding that another complaint is on file with you concerning this matter (10184014). I would appreciate your investigation in this matter.
