36 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2002 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 05/17/2011

On may 15, 2011 I was using my 2002 Ford Taurus to run errands . After driving for a short period of time I became aware of a strange odor, all of the gauges appeared normal, and there were no warning lights illuminated on the dashboard. However, I was concerned enough to get a second opinion. Fortunately, the facility that normally services my vehicle is located less than 2 miles from my home. After visually inspecting the vehicle and checking all fluids the mechanic proceeded to test drive the vehicle, attempting to duplicate the smell. The car only traveled a short distance before the left rear tire blew out. Further investigation, on a lift, revealed a broken left rear coil spring. The jagged end of the spring was protruding into the inner sidewall of the tire, having caused it to rapidly deflate. The mechanic then informed me that the smell I experienced was most likely the broken spring rubbing on the sidewall of the tire. To my astonishment I was also told that it was a fairly common event and there is the potential for failure of the remaining 3 coil springs. I am very concerned about the continued use of this vehicle, I am well aware of the hazards associated with the sudden deflation of a tire at road speed. I have attempted to contact Ford motor company, because I was also told by my mechanic that at one time Ford had a recall and a campaign to remedy such a problem. To date, I have not been satisfied with the results.

37 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2011 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 05/11/2011

On three different occasions, my 2011 Ford Taurus' engine stopped while I was driving. This happened once in reverse while backing up with 3300 miles on the vehicle, and twice while driving between 30-40 mph. The most recent stoppages happened after I went over a railroad crossing; thus rattling the car and its components. I called the dealership and they asked that I bring the vehicle in immediately. I was told there was a TSB regarding this problem (however, they failed to notify me) and proeeded to "fix" it, saying it was a throttle body and motor assembly deficiency. The TSB # is 7t4z*9e926.

38 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2001 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 05/08/2011

Hello, I own a 2001 Ford Taurus and ever since the beginning of this summer, I have noticed that the driver's side floor board is constantly damp. I don't know if this dampness is coming from when it rains outside or if it has something to do with the a/c drainage hose being clogged. Either way, I find this as a safety concern as major cords are underneath the carpeting and I feel unsafe knowing that water is collecting underneath the carpeting, making those cords wet, which could spark an electrical fire. I really would feel much safer getting this problem fixed but I have no idea where to begin. I truly believe this is a safety concern and would really like to get it fixed, if only I knew where to begin. Thanks for your help with this matter.

Failure Date: 03/24/2011

While I was stopped in traffic, my wife accidentally touched the trunk release button while she was tuning the radio. The trunk lid opened. I pulled out of traffic as soon as possible so I could close the trunk lid. The car manual indicates that the trunk lid will open at speeds under 3 mph or less. It seems to me that the trunk lid should not open when the transmission is engaged.

45 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2008 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 02/18/2011

Vehicle in park and running/idling on slightly inclined driveway, facing upwards. 'driver', outside and beside vehicle on passenger side, opened front passenger door to reach across and remove key from ignition (shut off the engine), and the second she shut it off, vehicle started rolling backwards, with both of driver's feet still on the driveway and with the passenger door open immediately next to her, pulling her in the direction of the downward slope of the driveway. She jumped into the car, then over the middle console, and with her left foot depressed brake to stop vehicle. Both of driver's shins were scraped by the vehicle (along the door sill), as it began to roll backwards. Ford motor issued technical service bulletin 08-1-8 on 01/21/stopped on incline - in drive or reverse - without brake applied - vehicle rolls - built before 11/28/2007. However, build date for this VIN is 01/15/08. Also, and again, this incident was while vehicle was in park. Brake was not applied. Failed component unknown.

46 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 02/08/2011

My 2005 Ford Taurus has been a headache since day one. Today on my way to work the car suddenly accelerated and applying the brakes was a challenge as I almost couldn’t stop when pulling over for safety. Prior to this, over $2000 for a new engine, another $900 for a new transmission, another $250 for a power steering pump, and daily issues like the door not latching and me trying to hold driver’s door shut while driving at the same time, and then having to tie a rope across the front seat to the passenger door. Also, the daytime running lights turn on on their own at any given time and drain the battery. This car is a piece of crap. If you buy this kind or car, make sure you have aaa too.

47 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2002 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 02/05/2011

Upon backing my 2002 Ford Taurus out of the driveway, my boyfriend heard a loud "pop" and discovered the front driver's side tire was flat. Upon taking off the tire, he discovered the spring coil broke and punctured a hole in the tire. Apparently this is a known issue and Ford has not issued a recall. I have to replace the spring coil and tire.

48 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 02/04/2011

Whe I was on my way to arbys the transmission went out on me with no warning. My car could not shift gears to go into reverse or forward. Luckily I was able to coast to a stop and put the car in park. The employees at arbys assisted me with pushing the vehicle out of the drive-through. The car runs but cnnot shuft into any gears. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the faulty transmission was replaced with a transaxle aeeembley reconditioned transmission with reman orque convertor. Total cost of repair was $1,839. 33.

49 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 01/18/2011

The best way to describe what happened is that it seemed to be doing exactly what the toyotas were doing, accelerating on it's own. When I would get to approx. 50-55mph, I could feel the gas pedal "stick. " the car would then accelerate on it's own without my foot on the gas, up hills, on flat roads, etc. The brakes would stop the car, but you could hear the engine idling in a higher gear, and when the brake was released, the car would take off without gas being applied. Once, when I was parking, the car was doing this and when I placed the gear in "p" the rpm's when past 3 before I shut the car off. When I called the Ford company to inquire about this, they instantly knew what the problem was and said they had seen 3 come in with the same problem already. The problem ended up being the throttle body and cruise control cables. I just felt that I needed to let you know of the situation as it concerned me while I was driving and if it has happened enough that one dealership knows the problem instantly without seeing the car, I think this may be an issue that warrants a recall of some kind.

50 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2002 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 01/14/2011

My car was parked at my office. At 5:15pm I got into my car to leave work. I put the car into reverse and as soon as I hit the gas to back out the drivers side front tire lost all of its air. I went into the shop at my office and got my mechanic who brought the portable air compressor to try and refill the tire so we could drive the car into the shop. The tire would not take any air so my mechanic got the jack and proceeded to jack up the car to put my spare tire on. As soon as he jacked the car up I heard metal hit the concrete. When I looked under the car I noticed that a piece of metal was sticking half in my tire and half out. Once we got the tire off the vehicle we realized that it was a piece of the coil spring that had broken off and went through my tire. Upon further investigation we also found that the sway bar link was cracked.

51 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 01/13/2011

My car hadn't given any warning of transmission problems. It was serviced regularly, and we had bought it new, so we knew its history. I turned off the highway, onto my street (up a hill) and the car suddenly acted as if it were in neutral. Would not accelerate. I managed to back it to the left side of the street, so it would be out of traffic. Called the tow truck. If this had happened while on the highway, I could have easily been killed. I have found that many people have had this experience with Ford Taurus. The transmission on 2003s has given out with no warning, in the middle of traffic. This is a serious problem that should be investigated.

52 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2008 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 01/07/2011

While driving on the expressway at 70ish mph, with the cruise control on, I applied slight pressure to the gas pedal to accelerate around a slower car. When I did, the engine revved to around 3500rpms, but did not gain speed. The engine continued to rev, and since I wasn't accelerating I needed to slow to match traffic flow. I tapped the brakes with no result. The engine was still revving, and next I manually turned the cruise control off at the hand control. The engine continued to rev, and I tapped the brakes again with no result. In urgency I applied heavy pressure to the brake. At that time I heard a snap, and the engine stopped revving, and my speed came down. This all happened within about 6-8 seconds, and resolved just before I had to decide on a place to fly off of the highway going 70 so that I wouldn't kill anyone. This only occured once as I continued my trip without use of the cruise control. The car was brought in to the dealership where diagnostic testing and road testing were done without duplicating the problem.

53 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 12/15/2010

This happened in a 2005 Ford Taurus se sedan with the 3. 0l vulcan v6 flex-fuel engine. Car was just hitting 85,000 when the problem appeared. Car began to make a squealing noise- which turned out to be the belt beginning to wear heavily. It was changed, and the noise became even worse. Now an added clunking sound began to manifest itself. It was found out to be the a/c compressor beginning to break. In fact, a knut or something had become lose, which was the clunking noise I heard. The whole compressor had to be replaced and filled (so I can use the a/c. ) and a new belt had to be bought as well. If this compressor wasn't replaced, it would have failed- causing it to seize, the belt to break, and my engine to quickly overheat and probably crack. It took around 2 hours to replace everything- including letting the broken a/c compressor out. Illegal, but I could not afford taking it to the dealer and getting charged $800+ so I had my brother in law do it. Altogether I spent around $350 for parts and labor. I later learned, from my mechanic friend, that Taurus' hitting around 80k have this same a/c compressor failure like clockwork. It's a common problem, that is expensive, and should have been fixed if it is known what causes it.

54 Unknown Or Other problem of the 1999 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 11/12/2010

A minor slippage in the transmission became a complete transmission failure in less than a mile. No power to any gears, had to be towed. Only repair options presented were new/used transmission, ranging from 1500-3000 in price, even though the nature of the failur was known by the dealership and the other mechanics I spoke with. Otherwise, good car, but now it sits in my driveway. I would like the transmission repaired/replaced reasonably or for free given the complete and total, sudden failure.

55 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2011 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 11/02/2010

My 2001 Taurus ses during cold and/or snowy/rainy months doors freeze up constantly. Very difficult to get into car. When I finally manage to get in I have to drive holding onto the door because it will not reshut as the door handle assembly becomes lodged and door will not latch. I have inspected the rubber around door and it looks fine. But I do go treat it every cold season in hopes the door will not re-freeze but I have been unsuccessful as it still is happening. Finally after car has been heating up for about 45 min. To an hour with heater on full blast I am then able to get the door to latch shut. When this first started to happen I was unaware that door was not latched and when I went around a corner going about 5 miles an hour the door flew open. This started to happen in 2010 and has happened ever since and it is now 2012. All 4 doors freeze up but since I drive mainly alone it is the driver side that has become very annoying and hazzardous. This issue has made me late for work and many other appointments as well. Once I had my daughter as a passenger in the car and the passenger side door flew open and she went to grab it and the door was heavy and it pulled her with it. Thank got she had her seat belt on and that I was still in town going slow. Something needs done about this immediatly. As far as door latch, I carry a screw driver in the car so I can work at the latch located on the inside of the door. Need something over the door to keep moisture from seeping in or something on these cars.

56 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 11/01/2010

We had a small hail storm pea size hail and called geico to look at the roof, trunk and hood of the car. The roof had large area's of paint missing and bubbled with large area's of rust under it. The adjuster told us this was a defect that Ford was have with cars and trucks between 2000 - 2006 and denied the claim. After several months of reserch and body shops telling me this is a Ford defect, calling Ford and them telling me it's not there problem, looking at web-sites with 100's of complaints, lemon laws, facebook pages agaisnt Ford, frustration because people were loosing their cars due to rust, and Ford telling us OH well even after the tsa report Ford posted stating they knew they had a problem with the paint adhering to the aluminum to make the car wiegh less and a good possible fix would be to replace the panels with steal and good primer and painted, the Ford 800 number stated we are sorry but unless we get enough compaints and NHTSA sees enough compaints to do a recall we won't help. Even the denver police department has issued complaints of paint peeling off the car like an orange.

Power windows will not roll up or down, mirrors do not work, inside lights are out. Ford replaced gem module a couple of years before for the same problem costing me money at that time. When the windows would not roll up or down, Ford would replace fuse and in a few minutes the fuse would blow, again and again they did this and now they are not interested in fixing the problems since the vehicle is older and not under warranty and they claim fixing it would cost more than the vehicle is worth. I have a very good vehicle and would like to use the windows and mirrors and especially the lights inside and I feel this is definitely a safety hazard to me since I travel alone a lot each year. I have contacted Ford and they repeatly state that they do not have any recalls and are not aware of such problems. I even sent them websites from people who are having these problems with the windows. All you have to do is goggle: Taurus window problems and there are numerous owners with this problem. Hope you can help with this matter as Ford is not listening to us. . . . .

59 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2001 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 09/01/2008

My Ford Taurus 1st broke down on the interstate. I was on my way taking my kids to chuck e. Cheese. It ran hot out of the blue. After that I got it towed, I did replace the motor, had the transmission worked on, replace many sensors, replaced the fuel filter, replaced the fuel pump, the sensor of the air condition. I have replaced almost everything on that car from the time I bought it in 07 until 2010. And its still not running. Its parked they are saying its something with the transmission again. I have spent so much money in that piece of junk Ford. I feel they should fix the transmission this time and give me some of money back for all the repairs. And for the record my dates are estimated because I just parked and it and stop keeping up with it. Just plain ole got tired. That car took me broke. I finally had to bow down and go get another 1 with payments as last resort. For me and my 2 little girls 1 of them whom is disabled.

Rain causes a leak in the cabin of my 1999 Ford Taurus. I have had to replace the blower motor and fix the ac. Also causes damage to the interior carpet. The leak is always on the passenger side after rain.

64 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2001 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 07/14/2007

Blower motor on my Ford Taurus and blower resistor has shorted out because of a water leak. I have researched this problem and have found numerous other Taurus owners with the same problem. William Ford who filed a complaint number 10184014 is one person to many others to mention.

65 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 07/01/2007

It seems like after heavy rain water collects somewhere within the dash and runs down into the front passenger floorboard of the car. It collects several inches of water that sits in the floorboard and I have to soak it up with a lot of towels. I keep a garbage bag in the floorboard to keep from ruining my carpet which already smells real bad as a result of this issue. I have read numerous complaints about this very problem on other Ford Taurus' going back to at least 2001 models. Has there been a recall? I read in the complaints that it caused their blower motor to need to be replaced. I would like to get this problem taken care of ASAP but feel that since this is an ongoing issue with the Ford Taurus then Ford should recall it and they should repair it at no cost. They should also be required to look at the blower motor and anything else it could have effected and replace if needed. I would also like to request they clean my carpet and get the bad smell out of it. I was told to refer to a related recall under 03v08700 and complaint #10184014. Thanks!.

66 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

67 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 01/01/2007

Car was sitting outside for a week while on vacation (not being driven). Upon arriving home, started the car but the blower would not run. Troubleshot it down to the blower motor. Upon removal of the blower motor, I found 2 cups of water, along with some ice chunks in the blower motor. I replaced the blower resistor and the blower motor, now it works. There is an obvious problem with the way moisture can not only get in, but then drain down to and collect in the blower motor, causing it to short out.

68 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 12/23/2005

2003 Ford Taurus has a design flaw that cause water to get in to dash board area on passenger side. My fan blower motor stopped working, when I removed the motor there was water in the motor and the floor was wet. We had noticed water on the floor several times since we bought the car.

69 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2001 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 06/14/2005

I own a 2001 Ford Taurus. We have been having an on going oil filter leak. We have dealer paperwork to prove it. I found on-line a TSB 01-20-4 showing the problem. We went to drew Ford today 6-14-05. The problem is the machined lines on the oil filter mounting surface. Our service writer told us we'll be charged 60. 00 to find the leak. When it's plain as day where its leaking. We're told the warranty is the lst 36,000 miles only, but we have been reporting this all along to Ford. When I found this TSB on-line number 01-20-4. I want my car fixed for free. This is a hazard, not only the smell of burning oil, but the fire hazard, the dealer said there is a chance if it is fixed if all the metal and sandpaper debris from the oil filter pad enter the engine or oil this could lead to engine bearing damage. So now this is a catch 22. I have passed the 36,000 miles. , having over 90,000 miles. I told the dealer ( drew Ford) in la mesa CA I leave on vacation, I'm driving to mn 6-19-05. 5 days from now. This should be a re-call. It is for 2001 Taurus, ranger and 2001 sable models.

70 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 05/23/2005

Condensation from the air conditioning drain tube leaks between the fire wall into the passenger side car interior. This makes the carpet padding wet and creates mildew and bacteria. This creates a potential health hazard and it will agravate simtoms for people with alergies. I suspect the seal between the firewall and the a/c condensation drain tube is to blame. A better seal may resolve this problem.
