1 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Transit Connect

Failure Date: 10/05/2025

Good evening, I wanted to bring to your attention an ongoing issue I've experienced with two 2019 Transit Connect vehicles that I purchased together. Both vehicles have encountered a transmission problem when shifting into reverse; initially, they would not move, but after shifting to park and then back to reverse, they would engage. I visited the dealership where I bought both vehicles, and they inspected them, indicating that they found no problems. However, both vehicles began showing transmission issues around the 50,000 to 58,000-mile mark. I was able to replace the transmissions under the manufacturer’s warranty. Unfortunately, after approximately 30,000 miles—about a year and a half later—I encountered the same issue again. Once more, the vehicles struggled to engage in reverse. When I returned to the dealership to report this recurring issue, I learned that my warranty had expired, and I would need to replace the transmission again. I would like to formally express my concerns regarding this situation. It seems that there may be a common issue with the transmission in the 2019 model, and I believe it's important for this to be addressed. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

2 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Transit Connect

Failure Date: 07/16/2025

Transmission failure in my 2. 0l Ford Transit Connect at approximately 94,000 miles. When I shift into reverse, the van sometimes drives forward instead of backing up — as if the transmission is confused or stuck in the wrong gear. Over time, reverse completely stopped working altogether. Additionally, after coming to a full stop (such as at a red light), the van occasionally stalls or becomes unresponsive when pressing the gas pedal. This creates dangerous situations in traffic. All recommended maintenance has been done on time, including a full transmission flush performed by a Ford dealer at around 80,000 miles. There were no warning lights or error messages before the issue began. After researching, I found many other Transit Connect owners with the same problem, especially in models with the 2. 0l engine. This points to a potential defect in the transmission system. A full transmission replacement may be necessary, and I believe Ford should issue a recall to address this recurring failure.

3 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Transit Connect

Failure Date: 07/01/2025

Transmission shutter goes in and out of gear I’ve seen lots of people have this problem and no recall yet.

4 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Transit Connect

Failure Date: 06/25/2025

Damaged torque converter pump and foreward planetary assy bushings. Jerks when accelerating, loses power, hesitates backing up. Overhaul of torque converter, reseal and reassemble. Hydraulic control unit not working properly and break on left front does not release and overheats. Replaced hydraulic control unit. Airbox loose and damaged. Rattling. Replaced airbox.

5 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Transit Connect

Failure Date: 06/23/2025

My 8f35 transmission failed at 95,000 miles, a new unit was put in and that transmission failed at about 175,000 miles, a new transmission was not put in for replacement, but was rebuilt by Ford and currently I have 185,000 miles and as I slow down the transmission starts to jerk and I am slammed forward in my seat. This transmission does this everyday, without fail. Just a matter of time before this transmission fails. This transmission is acting like the last 2 transmissions that failed.

6 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Transit Connect

Failure Date: 05/06/2025

The transmission stopped while in motion approaching a stoplight. It made a big clunking noise kind of died and will not do anything now. It is sitting in a dealership waiting for repairs. Under NHTSA campaign #21v376000 it is the exact issue per the Ford dealership. The only difference in that recall is the engine size is 2. 5l and our is 2. 0l. Ford will not do anything to help us fix the issue due to the engine size difference and the specifications of that recall. It is a 10k fix for us and Ford already knows the issue exists but it was just a slightly larger engine. Other than that the issue is the same. We would like Ford to do something about this. Luckily it happened while stopping.

7 Power Train problem of the 2010 Ford Transit Connect

Failure Date: 03/18/2025

After placing vehicle in park, vehicle rolled away and destroyed my mailbox. Luckily I was able to stop it inches away from neighbors car. There is a recall for other years, but none for this year. The vehicle has not been inspected by a dealer yet, however, after talking to the dealership service department, it is a common problem and would cost a lot to repair.

8 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Transit Connect

Failure Date: 02/01/2025

Transmission issues sometimes vehicle rolls back. Not in gear hesitates at high speeds.

9 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Transit Connect

Failure Date: 01/10/2025

1 transmission: very harsh shift engagements up shift and downshifting. Harsh downshifting while cornering and approaching intersections made me concerned for my safety. Random slipping in mid gears 3,4, or 5, no dtc's for slipping or harsh engagements. Transmission currently has the dtc: p0772 shift solenoid e stuck on. And is not drive able. Vehicle is in my driveway until I determine where to take it. I am concerned why my vehicle VIN isn't listed in the transmission recalls when I'm having the exact same problem as the recalled vehicles. 2 brakes: February 2024 abs unit. When driving on highways at speeds between 45-65mph, when I would release my foot off the gas pedal the vehicle would apply medium pressure to the braking system (without touching the brake pedal). Vehicle was taken to nazareth Ford, they replaced a front brake hose and cycled the anti-lock brake system unit. I drove back on the highway and the same thing happened, brakes applied when letting off the gas pedal, almost causing an accident. I replaced the abs unit myself and had nazareth Ford program the software. Problem solved. I still have the old abs unit available for inspection.

10 Power Train problem of the 2018 Ford Transit Connect

Failure Date: 12/20/2024

11 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Transit Connect

Failure Date: 11/21/2024

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Transit Connect. The contact stated while driving 20 mph, the vehicle hesitated and stalled. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 91,000.

12 Power Train problem of the 2021 Ford Transit Connect

Failure Date: 11/20/2024

We have just passed 87,000 miles on our 2021 Ford Transit Connect and the transmission has had to be completely replaced. We were told at the transmission repair facility that ours was one of 4 2021 Ford Transit Connects in their shop alone with a whole transmission replacement within a 2 week time period. While our vehicle is outside of the mileage for the power train warranty from Ford, it is not outside of the time period. We feel that the significant amount of transmissions needing to be replaced on 2021 Ford Transit Connects is unreasonable expectation when you purchase your vehicle brand new from the manufacturer. Our vehicle has always been properly maintained to all dealer specs for the entire time we have owned it (and it was purchased with 6 miles on the odometer).

13 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Transit Connect

Failure Date: 10/28/2024

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Transit Connect. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, the electrical system failed to respond, and the vehicle turned off. There were no warning lights illuminated. There was no power to the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where unknown repairs were performed along with a taillight repair. On a separate occasion, while driving 30 mph, the vehicle failed to respond, the transmission was not shifting properly, which caused the vehicle to jerk. The contact stated that while driving after the engine had warmed up, the vehicle would unintendedly stop. The contact returned from a trip and the vehicle was taken to a dealer and was diagnosed with transmission failure. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 84,500.

14 Power Train problem of the 2014 Ford Transit Connect

Failure Date: 09/03/2024

For starters, about 2-3 days before August 6, 2024 (the day I took my van to autozone to diagnose my check engine light) my Ford transit shot a check engine light due to a "p0304 cylinder 4 misfire". On August 8, 2024 after dropping my van off once the mechanic opened, around 11:27 am I received a call from the mechanic I was referred to by the dealership I bought the van from that the car was fixed and ready to go. I was also told by one of the mechanics that work at the shop that the threading on the spark plugs were stripped, these were the original spark plugs that came with the vehicle when I purchased it before the misfire happened. On August 10th after work, my transmission had failed on me and I was not able to park my car, I ended up having to let my car roll back on a hill, blocking a strangers driveway having to call a tow truck around 11pm-12am. After having to wait some time, the same mechanic I was referred to by my dealership called me a day after receiving the new transmission telling me the van was ready. Not only did they try to charge me an extra $200, but the car wouldn't even start once I paid the balance due and tried to leave, and to top it all off there was still a jerk in the transmission every time I tried to put it in drive, the job was rushed. Less than a week later, the van was displaying another check engine light related to the same misfire as before, and also a transmission failure message on my dashboard while on the highway with my dog in the back. I'm a dog trainer and need the vehicle to safely transport animals to and from north to south jersey. I have not been able to do so due to all the complications I've been encountering with the vehicle. I dropped the van off Thursday August 29th and have not received any updates from the same mechanic and it has been 5 days (today's sept. 3rd). I understand labor day just passed but I was told by the head of the shop that they would look at it Friday Aug 30th & update me ASAP.

The contact owns a 2018 Ford Transit Connect. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted, with the traction and abs warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was able to be restarted; however, the failure recurred. The contact also stated that while the vehicle was parked, the contact became aware that transmission fluid was leaking from the transmission. The dealer was not contacted, and the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 114,000. The VIN was not available.

16 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Transit Connect

Failure Date: 04/20/2024

2020 Ford Transit Connect with 80,000 miles. Wrench light came on dashboard and car experiences some shuddering and hesitation when going uphill. Warranty expired at 60k miles dealer says that it is a power train issue and the transmission needs to be fully replaced. There was never any type of warning that the transmission. I did have a code for a egr valve, which was replaced. Requested Ford goodwill assistance to pay for this expensive repair but was denied and need to replace at full cost. Vehicle has been serviced every 5,000 miles at dealership. Supposedly transmission doesn't ever need servicing. There is no dipstick to check and when I asked when it needed fluid changed, I was told it didn't. Obviously that isn't true.

21 Power Train problem of the 2014 Ford Transit Connect

Failure Date: 09/07/2023

Hello. We were passing a tractor trailer on the interstate and at 75 mph the transmission shifted into low gear all by itself. We never went into passing gear just accelerating. The vehicle nosedived, rpm’s went up, blew the transmission fluid out all over the exhaust with major smoke, threw us into the dash, and went to about 5 mph all in about . 5 seconds leaving us in the middle of the interstate in 5:00 traffic. Tractor trailers stopped and let us get the vehicle to the side . If my daughter had not been behind us I’m sure one of the tractor trailers would have hit us because my brake lights didn’t come on because I never hit the brakes. The vehicle is sitting in my driveway where it was towed. No one has looked at it and it now has a check engine light on.

22 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Transit Connect

Failure Date: 08/07/2023

Transmission had high rpm's intermittently shifting out of lower gears and experienced poor gas mileage prior to complete failure. Complete failure occurred at a complete stop and would not go in any gear but 8th gear. No check engine light at failure. $8300 to replace transmission at 77k miles. Transmission fluid cannot be checked or maintained by owner.

23 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Transit Connect

Failure Date: 08/02/2023

The transmission needs replaced at 88,900 miles on a 2019 Ford Transit Connect. I have reached out to Ford and they will not do anything except to tell me I should have it repaired/replaced at a Ford authorized dealer so that the parts are under warranty. I use this compact cargo van for my business and am being for to put unnecessary wear and tear and miles on my personal vehicle for work. The transmission started to fail and the vehicle went into "limp" mode. The vehicle started to shift gears erratically, had a loss of power, slipping gears, and hard upshift and down shift. This happened all within a matter of 5 miles. Thankfully, I was able to get the vehicle back home and didn't loose control or have a catastrophic loss. The Ford dealer also found a diagnostic trouble code for the transmission fluid pressure sensor and when the vehicle gear selector was placed in "drive" the vehicle would move in reverse and vise versa. Ford's answer to this problem is "I am always willing to consider individual requests for assistance beyond the warranty period. I hope you understand; however, that I must place limits on the post-warranty adjustment policy. Regrettably, I have to advise you that your vehicle is beyond those limits. As such, I am unable to assist with repair costs; however, I encourage you to have the repair performed at your Ford dealership as parts come with a warranty. " the factory powertrain warranty is 5 years/60,000 miles. This vehicle is a 2019 with 88,900 miles. I believe that the reasonable expectation of the lifespan of a transmission is 150,000 mile at a minimum for any vehicle. There are several recalls on the transmission as well as a technical service bulletin (TSB 22-2281) published showing how to fix the problem when it happens. Ford has not publicly admitted that there is a problem, but in my mind, if a problem has warranted the you publish a TSB on how to fix the problem then you are admitting that there is a problem.

24 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Transit Connect

Failure Date: 06/23/2023

Transmission locks up on road, bringing van to a stop. At 80,000 miles the transmission went out. Ford replaced whole transmission with extended warranty. At 149,000 miles transmission went out again. Same thing, planitary gear broke, silonoid for shifting had to be relaced, clutches worn to metal. Ford refused to fix it. Too many cars on lot to fix.

27 Power Train problem of the 2010 Ford Transit Connect

Failure Date: 05/10/2023

The car can roll/move after the automatic transmission has been put in park. There are no warnings or indication of a problem and the ignition key can be removed after the transmission is in park. But the car can roll away and injure people or damage property if the emergency brake is not engaged. The transmission shift linkage has been examined and it appears to be fine, with no slop or mis-adjustment, and the linkage bushing (that is the subject of a recall of several other Fords of other model years) seems to be fine and not deteriorated. So, it's not the same problematic part but the vehicle roll away risk and danger to people and property is the same. This problem happens every time the vehicle is put in park and been independently verified by the vehicle service maintenance department of somerset county of the state of new jersey. This problem has been reported to Ford motor company and is documented as case # cas42939534.

32 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Transit Connect

Failure Date: 01/05/2023

I copied this, because this is exactly what happened to me. 8200. 00 new transmission 2019 Ford Transit Connect 2. 0l gdi i4 engine 8 spd auto transaxle, 83,000 miles. Transmission exhibiting difficulty shifting in lower gears. Van was working fine, then all at once the transmission stopped working at a stop light. Transmission acted like it was in park, I turned off key and turned back on and the van would drive again. When I pulled in front of my driveway the van would not go in reverse nor would it go forward again. I turned car off and back on and the van would drive forward, I took to dealer at that moment, dealer is 5 miles from my flower shop. Ford dealer service end result is blown transmission with estimate to repair of over $8,000. 00. Vehicle problems are consistent with posted recalls on 2. 5l engine. Vehicle well maintained by Ford dealer service only, adult driven 1 driver only. Lots of people online complaining about similar problems. Transmission should last much more than 90,000 miles, known electronic problems although no recalls on record for this engine and transaxle combination. I drive my van very easy, my miles are mostly highway miles very little in town driving. Ford should honor known problems with this vehicle especially if the repairs are in excess of $8,000. 00! I do not feel this is fair of Ford, I requested a case to be started by Ford and I want to record the problem if for nothing else future recall notices for this obvious manufacture defect. I h.

33 Power Train problem of the 2021 Ford Transit Connect

Failure Date: 10/06/2022

This vehicle keeps flashing service engine soon light and malfunction indicator lamp. Dealer is keep saying that there are nothing to fix the issue. However, they have noted that it might be related to fueling hole and also fuel misfire. Dealer is not addressing the issue and on the manual page 99, it advises not to operate the vehicle when both lights flash together. However, dealer is not addressing the issue. Please help.

34 Power Train problem of the 2014 Ford Transit Connect

Failure Date: 08/13/2022

While driving, the car seemed to change gears and then went to neutral and wouldn’t go into any other gear. After turning it off and on, it engaged a couple of times- enough to pull to the side of the road. Once it even felt like it popped into reverse. It now won’t go out of neutral. No warning lights have gone on.

35 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Transit Connect

Failure Date: 07/31/2022

Three summers in a row now the transmission "overheats" causing warning lights and errors to pop up while driving, then going away. Sometimes disabling vehicle power altogether. When control does come back, transmission gear changes happen at the wrong rpm , stuttering the vehicle and making erratic driving behavior. Ford ignored my requests to investigate for two years, and now that it's out of warranty, tell me I need to pay them to install a brand new transmission.
