One problem related to differential unit has been reported for the 1997 Ford Windstar. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Van lost power on acceleration and stopped. The front drive wheels locked-up. Dealer determined planetary gear in transmission blew. Manufacturer paid for the out of warranty (by 4 months) repairs. Note Ford has history of planetary gear failing (my 91 taurus).
