Automatic Transmission Cooler problems of the 1999 Ford Windstar

Four problems related to automatic transmission cooler have been reported for the 1999 Ford Windstar. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Automatic Transmission Cooler problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2001

Failure of transmission at highway speed; fluid spilled onto road caught fire under engine compartment; complained to dealer about hard shifting from 1-2; and van surging forward when coming to a stop; dealer claimed no problem performed b51 service update prior to problem; overdrive slips in and out on incline; requires remanufactured transmission.

2 Automatic Transmission Cooler problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2000

Consumer pulled off of the road to a vegetable stand and vehicle caught fire in the engine compartment, fire was found to have resulted from faulty cooling lines, claim 59-v539-348.

3 Automatic Transmission Cooler problem

Failure Date: 03/31/2000

On the highway up the hill I notice smoke coming out from behind my van and when I halted I notice transmission oil coming underneath my van and I call road assistance.

4 Automatic Transmission Cooler problem

The transmission coolant line busted, the dealer replaced the line with a rubber hose and two clamps instead of replacing it with another line, the replacement hose has begun to leak. Nlm.
