Speed Control Cable problems of the 1999 Ford Windstar

Three problems related to speed control cable have been reported for the 1999 Ford Windstar. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Speed Control Cable problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2009

The throttle cable of my 1999 Ford Windstar frayed and caused the throttle to stick. The frayed outer part of the wire came off leaving sharp metal ends that allowed the cable to become stuck in the plastic sheath. Had to be pulled out by hand. No injury occurred but could have if on the high way.

2 Speed Control Cable problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2005

When trying to stop the vehicle on the highway pedal went to the floor, and the vehicle accelerated to 80 mph. Consumer had to press the brakes very hard to stop, causing damage to the brake pedal. Vehicle was towed, and throttle cable was discovered to be defective. Consumer contacted manufacturer, and was told the vehicle was too old and had too many miles. The throttle stuck, causing severely damaged to brakes. Consumer was advised that Ford did recall on 932 of its 1999 and 2000 model for this problem.

3 Speed Control Cable problem

When stopping at light or making a turn vehicle will not accelerate. This happens intermittently. When turning vehicle off and restarting computer resets, and dealer can't identify problem.
