Lived in the salt belt state of PA. Frame rusted out and I lost steering control and almost had an accident. This is a known issue via NHTSA action number: pe10026 and I would like Ford to recall and fix this at thier cost.
The contact owns a 1999 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that while driving 60 mph the vehicle started jerking and swerving abnormally, casuing the rear driver side wheel to detach from the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a local mechanic who inspected the vehicle and discoverd that the bolts were rusted and corroded and had caused the axle to fracture. The mechanic did not repair the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer because the axle was previously installed under NHTSA campaign id number: 10v385000 (suspension: rear: axle: non-powered axle assembly). The dealer advised the contact that they would not repair the broken axle because it was repaired previously under the recall and had exceeded the 12,000 mile guarantee on the component. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure who stated that they would be in contact at a later date. The failure mileage was 190,000.
The contact owns a 1999 Ford Windstar. The vehicle was included and repaired under NHTSA campaign id number: 12v195000 (suspension:rear:axle:non-powered axle assembly). After the repair, the contact was driving approximately 25 mph when the vehicle began to shake vigorously. The dealer was made aware of the failure and stated the vehicle was unsafe to drive and they needed to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
The contact owns a 1999 Ford Windstar. The contact noticed corrosion on both the driver and passenger sides of the rear axle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the manufacturer was contacted. The manufacturer confirmed that the contact's VIN did not qualify for repairs under NHTSA campaign id number:10v385000 (suspension:rear:axle:non-powered axle assembly). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileages were 224,000.

The contact attempted to replace the rear tire when the jack penetrated the frame. The approximate failure and current mileage was 146,000. Kmj.
The van has had both the front subframe and rear axel recall repairs completed. On picking up the van, it still had a hard pull to the right after paying for an alignment. The dealer attributed it to the tires. On putting the van in for PA inspection, it did not pass due to "subframe rotted at rear transmission mount". The Ford dealer that performed the recall work subsequently looked at it, agreed the frame was rotted but that no recalls coverd it. The repair cost is in excess of the vehical value. I suspect the alignment could be related as well.
Took our van in to be brought up to date with recalls for it's make/model. Asked about axle corrosion as we knew our year of Ford Windstar was included in this recall. Was told nebraska is not included in this recall, but they would inspect for the defect anyway. Van is now grounded by Ford due to front and rear axle problems. My complain is this. . . . We were not issued a recall notice and are not technically part of the recall. Had we not taken our car in and asked to have it inspected after hearing of the problem through word of mouth, we could have been in a serious or possibly fatal accident. Why is nebraska not included in this recall??? as far as resolution, we have been told repair will take 1-3 months or they may buy back our van. I guess time will tell.
Getting the runaround with local dealer over this recall business (recalls 10s13, 11s16, 09s09). First three times they "lost" our appointment, then I just showed up with the van so they took it. Didn't hear from them for two weeks. Then I called and asked for van back- had only one vehicle. They offered a rental. Now they say they need to charge us $300 for broken coil springs. I called another suspension specialist company, they said the dealership was double-dipping, charging Ford and us for the same work. I need help with this dealership!.
This is regarding recall # 10s13. In 2010 Ford issued this recall because there was a weak part on the rear axle that rusts away and cracks. There fix is to inspect the weld and then replace the axle if there is a crack. If no crack is present, the dealership is to clean the rust off the weld. When this recall came out, Ford made it difficult for dealers to replace broken axles. They made it so difficult for the dealers to get a replacement axle that they where "backordered" for several months. I live in an area that has some rust and had Ford "inspect" my weld for excessive rust. They said it was fine and sent it down the road which then voids my recall. Now the rear axle has broken at the very same weld which was mentioned in the recall. It even broke under the same conditions described in the recall. I checked and found that the only thing Ford did to my vehicle was to spray some rust inhibitor on top of the rust that was already there and sent me on my way. Since I took it in for inspection, they now refuse to replace the defective part under recall 10s13. I've been told that if I had never taken the car in for inspection, that they would now have to replace the part. The proof I have is this. The recall didn't come out until 11 years after the cars where sold, which proves it takes a while for this part to break. Look at your complaints. The ones that failed in 08-11 where in the far northern states. Ford had to replace most of these in 2011. Ford didn't replace many in southern illinois, southern iowa, etc until a few years later (2012-15). The problem is that these are starting to break in the mid-western states and Ford is refusing to repair them since they already "inspected" the weld and found it wasn't cracked when the recall first came out. Everyone knows that covering rust wont stop it from continuing to rust. Ford needs to expand this recall.
Tl- the contact owns a 1999 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that the vehicle had numerous failures that recurred multiple times upon owning the vehicle years ago. The vehicle was traded in for another vehicle due to the contact indicating that the vehicle was taken to the dealer and an independent repair shop several times over the years for extensive repairs and the failures recurred. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 11v030000 (structure), 10v385000 (suspension) and 09v399000 (vehicle speed control) several times and no longer owned the vehicle to receive the recall repairs. The manufacturer was notified that the contact no longer owned the vehicle. The approximate failure mileage was not available. Dyd.
Rear axle of Ford Windstar van just broke. It is at a shop now to access the damage.
Due to a design flaw unable to align vehicle. Dealer contacted.
Consumer complained about noise being emitted by vehicle when making a left turn at speed. Dealership has provided no information to consumer for reason/cause. The dealer ordered a power streering line part, but they don't know if this is the problem.
When starting vehicle up there is a noise coming from underneath vehicle. Dealership is aware of problem.
Vehicle made a loud noise & vibrated as though it was out of power . Dealer has inspected it & has bled the line, and that didn't help. Dealer hasn't been telling consumer that Ford was working on a solution. Consumer has been calling dealer to see if solution has been found.
While traveling at highway at 60 mph felt a sharp jerk to the side. Once corrected, jerked again the other way. Took vehicle to dealer, and dealer stated that nothing was wrong. Problem has occurred several times since first incident. No accidents or injuries have occurred.
