1 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 05/26/2014

Follow-up on odi # 10593430. On may 26, 2014, after Ford dealership in fort walton beach, FL kept my vehicle for a week to fix the cruise control and seat latches recall, I was finally able to pick up my van. They also checked the cause of odometer and speedometer to stopped working, abs and brake light remained on, sliding doors not working, and o/d light flashing; I was told the cause is a defective abs module. They charged me $114. 27 to diagnosed the problem and quoted me $1,265. 00 to replace the abs module. I showed to Ford service advisor, andrew tompitch, a print-out from NHTSA website stating that part of fixing or remedy to the cruise control recall was to "inspect the abs control module connector and repair as necessary. " "repairs will be completed free of charge. " yet Ford charged me for this service and told me that the problems were not the same since my vehicle's scds supposedly did not leak. How could I verified what he told me was true when he wouldn't let me enter the work bay to watch what the technician was doing to my vehicle? andrew admitted that the abs module is defective and that they had replaced several modules due to the same problems as my van. But andrew said it's not part of the recall and wouldn't replace it free of charge. If Ford used defective parts such as the abs module, then Ford should be responsible to replacing the defective abs module and recall it before a life is lost!.

2 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2014

Used the vehicle to go on a trip about 200 miles from home, the cruise control was working but the brake light stayed on. When I got back home and parked the vehicle for a couple of days, when I went to go back out in the van on another short trip and got on the interstate the cruise wouldn't work again. The brake light stays on all the time when before the cruise stopped working it was only intermittent. Now the light is on all the time and the cruise isn't working at all. I can't use the van on trips o when I go a few miles away from home because the cruise don't work. I have a bad back and joints and rely on that cruise to help me get from point a to point b. Thanks, paula.

3 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2013

My abs light & traction light are now on. Also, needles jump on dash {odometer, speedometer, fuel & heat level} and cruise control does not work any longer {this has been happening since receiving my van back from the Ford garage after 7 months from the axle recall repair over a year ago}. Tried to bleed my brakes after replacing pads and caliper but cannot bleed front left or rear right. Was told by a Ford mechanic that this may be a problem in the abs module. As pertaining to a Ford recall in October, 2009, all of the above problems may be connected to this recall. My van was inspected and nothing was done to it because, at the time, because it was deemed safe. I have since replaced the electrical tape on the wiring harness that they were suppose to be inspecting because it was falling off due to brake fluid on it (reason for said recall}. I plan on calling the garage in the am to have them reinspect my van for this recall because I cannot afford to replace any more parts in it. I have put a lot into it just since getting it back after the axle recall because it deteriorated sitting in their driveway for the winter due to salt. I hope nobody else is going through this. I love my van and have owned it for 11 years but it is getting too expensive for a one-income-household to repair due to bad parts or service. Please have Ford work to fix these problems so I can afford to keep my van. Thank you!.

4 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 04/26/2013

Abs light start flashing, lose cruise control, then over drive started flashing on the van, cut off o/d light still flashing.

5 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2013

Abs and brake warning lights light up randomly and cruise control stops working. Main brakes still function. I see lots of similar complaints online. Had brakes repaired twice and the mechanic always mentions a loss of brake fluid. Even after that, the problem persists. I do not believe my VIN was ever part of the scds switch recall but I am suspicious this may be somehow related (?). If so, there could be risk of a fire and I do not feel safe. I'd like some answers before I spend any more money at local mechanic fixing this car. Calling Ford dealer tomorrow to see if there is anything they can do.

6 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 05/25/2012

Purchased this vehicle in January 2012 and have had nothing but problems with it. According to Ford all recalls have been done on this vehicle but here is a list of the issues with the van: abs light comes on, check engine light comes on, van has no cruise control at all, and last Friday I could not put the van in gear. After the Ford dealership "repaired" the solenoid for the van now all of a sudden there is currently no rear brake lights. This van is less than safe to be on the road and have seen that some of the recalls would have solved the speed control issue but the Ford factory will not answer any of my questions. Take a look online and you will see thousands of people with the same issues we are having and it was brought to the attention of Ford that we are having the same issues as thousands of other people so this is beyond a problematic vehicle. The vehicle is currently sitting at the local Ford dealer while they try and figure out what is wrong with the light system. This vehicle has been in the shop twice since we have owned it and this is costing us hundreds (so far) to fix issues that everyone with this vehicle is having. The latest issues have led to us being without a vehicle for almost a week and we have a disabled child in the home and this is unacceptable.

7 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2011

The vehicle was checked by Ford dealer in alamogordo, nm 88310 due to a recall for "rear axle cracks, subframe corrosion" and "brake, abs brake, cruise control, and speedometer/odometer electrical problems" on Aug/16/2011. They sad there is no problem / or they fixed it. After that date, the brake/abs brake illuminated a couple of times, but went of after the engine was turned off/on again. Also the cruisecontrol stopped working since and isn't currently not working. I found that the "brake pressure differential deactivation switch (scds) (2b264) located under the master cylinder (behind the air filter) is leaking!!!. It is completely wet and the fluid is dropping down slowly. Pictures are available, taken today 04/04/2012.

8 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 08/17/2011

The abs and brake warning lights go on randomly for no reason, also cruise control will stop working.

9 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2011

We had our Ford Windstar brakes done all the way around and my abs and emergency brake light and traction light come on and off. The cruise control works sometimes. Ford dealer in my town wont check it out without a diagnostic fee even thou a recall is said to be issued for the same complaints.

10 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2010

Abs and brake lights coming on for no apparent reason. Had recall service on cruise control and the warning lights for the abs and brake lights have been coming on intermittently since that service was done. Talked with the local Ford service department and they are aware of this problem. Said that the previous recall on the cruise control didn't have anything to do with my warning lights for abs and brakes (but they have had more issues with this problem than the cruise control recall). If I remember the correctly, the cruise control recall - it had something to do with brake fluid contact and potential for fire, my cruise was shorted out and not working - must have been from brake fluid. I am thinking that this flaw has something to do with electrical components connected from the brake and abs system to the warning lights being shorted out in a similar way; it is just a guess, I am sure that the real mechanics know what is going on. . . . This is a safety issue and Ford needs to recall this design flaw; the warning device is not working as designed. I am sure that the $1,600 to fix the problem is an issue for Ford. Sometimes the lights turn on when I start the vehicle, sometimes I may be driving and they will turn on, at times the warning lights do not come on at all. The brakes are not effected from what I can tell and my fluid levels are normal. I hope that my brakes don't really experience a problem.

11 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2010

We have a 2002 Ford Windstar. We were at the dealership today for an oil change, new fuel filter and tires rotated. Our van was one that was recalled for the cruise control. We took it in when were notified and about 2 weeks after the recall our cruise control stopped working. Last fri. Our abs light came on and then it suddenly went out. We had to have a new axle put on our van in may,2010 due to the axle cracked. We thought maybe the light came on because of having new brakes put on when we installed the new axle. We had the Ford mechanic check this out and he told us that the abs is leaking, but this has nothing to do with the cruise control. If this is leaking and the cruise control won't work because of it leaking isn't related to the recall?.

12 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2009

The contact owns a 2002 Ford Windstar. While driving 25 mph he noticed that there was smoke under the hood. He was able to safely drive the vehicle to a local repair facility. The technician extinguished the fire and determined that the cruise control brake switch failed and caused the fire. The technician removed the fuse which allowed the contact to drive the vehicle; however, he was unable to view his speed since the fire damaged the control switch. The vehicle has not been repaired. The contact will notify the manufacturer of the failure. The failure mileage was 88,000. Updated 01/29/10 updated 01/29/10.

13 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 09/23/2009

The contact owns a 2002 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that a fire almost erupted, from break fluid leaking under the firewall in the cruise control. He notified the dealer in reference to recall# 06v286000, vehicle speed control. He was advised that since his vehicle was excluded from the recall, he was ineligible for a free remedy. No repairs were made. The manufacturer was notified. The failure and current mileages were 94,558.

14 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2009

For the past several years my van has has intermittent problems with the brake lights on dash appearing while driving the car at various speeds. Once I stop the car and turn it off the lights will usually disappear but sometimes will come back within minutes of restarting car. This tends to happen during warmer times of year versus winter. Also I have noticed a problem with brakes even right after getting them replaced. The mechanic says there is nothing wrong with the brakes?? around the same time this started to happen my cruise control stopped working. I had recieved a notice from Ford about cruise control recall but when I called the local dealer and told them that my cruise control was not working and I was wondering if it had something to do with recall they said no, that was not the problem.

15 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2009

Brake, abs brake, cruise control, and speedometer/odometer electrical problems my dash lights are on and off all the time went to 3 mechanic they all checked my brakes, abs and could not find a problem it goes on whenever it wants stays on for weeks then comes back on while driving this has been doing for over a year. I even put stickers over the lights that I can see while driving. I still think there is a electrical wiring problem it is very annoying. I can not afford to get another vehicle . I see there are a lot of complaint about same problem my niece has one does the same thing and my brother in law in west virginia his is doing it too so I really thing Ford needs to check into this before someone's van catches fire or hurt some one.

16 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2009

Purchased a used 2002 Ford Windstar vehicle at dealership in December 2008--cruise control was working fine at time of purchase--around March 2009 cruise control failed to work. This may not be related but the speedometer would become stuck at speed set after depressing brake and slowing down- cruise control will not activate any longer.

17 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2008

I own a 2002 Ford Windstar and have had recent abs / brake problems. After further examination it was found that the cruise control deactivation switch was leaking brake fluid onto the abs brake control module which caused damage to the module. Upon more investigation, it has come to my attention that this switch is always "hot" whether the engine is running or not. This is turn could cause a fire from the brake fluid leakage. I have also learned that this switch in question has caused many other problems and even death with other Ford models. I will have to disengage my cruise as well as my abs system to ensure to fire. This worries me as I want the safest for my family but at this time cannot afford the fix. Hopefully Ford will own up and pay to fix this mess that was caused by a $30 switch.

18 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2008

The contact owns a 2002 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that the brake and anti lock braking system lights would constantly illuminate on the instrument panel. The contact also stated that the ignition light and cruise control switch did not function. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop where they were unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure milege was 100,000 and the current mileage was 140,000.

19 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 03/07/2008

My was driving on the expressway and attempted to set my cruise control on my van when there was a loud sound from my engine. My check engine light is on and from time to time it blinks. There is a burning smell sometimes also. This only happened when I set my cruise control. It starts and runs but the check engine light is on and the noise is still there.

20 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2007

We a Ford Windstar van that caught fire and burnt our house down a complete loss. Our homeowners determined that it was the cruise control switch. We had no problems with the van and were never informed of any recalls.

21 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2007

The contact owns a 2002 Ford Windstar. The brake warning indicator light illuminated. The dealer stated that the cruise control deactivation switch for the master cylinder was leaking. The manufacturer stated that her vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 07v336000 (vehicle speed control). The current and failure mileages were 76,849. The consumer stated the defect was the cruise control canceling switch on brake master cylinder. Replaced kit brake repair was done 10/13/07. Updated 11/01/07.

22 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2007

Our cruise control went out on our 2002 Ford Windstar. We took it to the local Ford service station and they explained that the brake fluid was leaking onto the cruise control. It apparently is a recall with several Ford brands but not with the Windstar yet. The mechanic explained that we were lucky the cruise control went out and that it didn't start a fire!.

23 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2007

The contact owns a 2002 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that the abs light illuminated intermittently. He also noticed that the cruise control switch does not activate. He has not taken the vehicle to the dealer for inspection. The vehicle has not yet caught fire. The contact filed a complaint with the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 124,000 and current mileage is 132,000. Updated 01/17/08.

24 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 10/06/2006

My husband, my 7 month old baby and I were driving on our way to lunch at about 30 mph when we noticed smoke coming out of the hood of our 2002 Ford Windstar. Immediately smoke filled up our cabin through the vents. My husband pulled over to the side of the road, and I quickly got my baby out of the van. My husband opened the hood and saw flames and we all ran away from the car. My husband ran to a nearby business that luckily had a fire extinguisher. My husband was able to put the fire out in time before who knows what could have happened. My husband took the car to an auto shop that happened to be very close to where the incident happened. After having to let the car cool down and the terrible smell go away the mechanics looked at the car and told us right away that they knew it was the same cruise control switch that has been recalled on Ford trucks. He advised us to take the van to Ford and have them fix it without any charge because that was a problem that should have been recalled in the Windstar as well. My husband took the van to the local Ford shop and they did agree that the problem was the cruise control switch. They "upgraded" the part and then tried to charge us almost $400 for the job. Not until after I complained to the manager did they waive the fee, but told me it was because "I was a local customer" (I have never bought anything from their dealership) they waived the fee because they knew this was a problem of Fords.

25 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2006

Speedometer not working accurately (ocassionally speedometer will work than stops, which indicates defective part). Ford says speedometer and gear needs to be replaced now. Prior to that they said computer needed to be reprogrammed because of tire size. . Cruise control did not work but was fixed by Ford via recall notice due to leaking speed control deactivation swith (scds). As I understand the dealer would also inspect the abs control module connector and repair as necessary. Abs and brake light are on all of the time which is a result abs control module failure.

26 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 06/16/2006

On June 16, 2006, while vehicle was parked in a parking lot, someone informed us that my 2002 Ford Windstar was smoking from under the hood. An internal fire occurred, damaging the wiring harness and windshield wiper motor. Unaware to the cause of said fire the damaged parts were replaced. Then other problems started to arise, the vehicle cruise control stopped working, the abs/brake light remained on and the speedometer was not working properly (not accurately reading). The local Ford dealer was informed of the before-mentioned problems including the internal fire that had occurred , at the time of the initial brake pressure deactivation switch recall. The dealer stated that the brake pressure deactivation switch indeed was leaking and that they supposedly checked the abs control module. Still the abs/brake light remained on and the speedometer did not work properly. On 3/14/14 the Windstar was taken to a local gargage to diagnose the abs/brake issues again. It was determined that said unit needed to be replaced. The abs module was subsequently removed and examined the control module (3/21/2014). The abs module suffered an internal fire and the wiring harness connector was melted and damaged. Also found was evidence of significant burning around the pins at the connections. This evidence included the blackened fluid, severe discoloration, and lifted traces, all of which are clearly apparent in photos of the module interior. The local dealer refused to repair or replace the module under the recall claim, stating that it was not part of the recall, and that said recall was closed. Ford has been negligent in this matter and luckily the vehicle prio to today, has not become a runaway fire event and burned to the ground!! at this time the vehicle has not been repaired, and is sitting idle. I have kept the damaged control module for examination.

27 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2006

: the contact stated while driving 10mph, there was a total loss of the brakes without any prior warning. The contact managed to maneuver the vehicle to a local independent repair shop. The mechanic discovered the brake pressure switch wiring melted which allowed leakage of all the brake fluid. The mechanic suggested this failure was related to the cruise control deactivation switch. There is a NHTSA recall, # 05v388000, regarding the vehicle speed control. The vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however it is not included in the recall due to the VIN. The mechanic disconnected the cruise control switch due to a possible fire risk and added more brake fluid. No further repairs were made.
