The speedometer, odometer & cruise control did not work & abs pump ran continuously. Abs & brake light stayed on. This only happened when the outside temp. Was around 80-85 deg. F & lights shut off once the engine cooled. Diagnosis was defective brake control mod. Pulled fuse 101 to keep pump from running. The contact owns a 2003 Ford Windstar. The contact stated the abs light illuminates intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the dealer advised they will not repair the failure because the vehicle does not have cruise control. The manufacturer was contacted and a report was taken. They will not assist with the repair, because the contact's VIN was not included in recall 09v399000; vehicle speed control. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact owns a 2003 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that the cruise control, anti-lock braking system and the speedometer malfunctioned. The cruise control could only be deactivated by tapping the brakes and not by engaging the switch. In addition, the abs warning light was illuminated and the speedometer gauge was defective. The contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealer for further inspection or repairs. The contact believed the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The failure mileage was 104,874.
While driving the red brake and yellow abs light appeared on the dash. A mechanic looked at the problem and noticed that the "cruise control knock off switch" was leaking brake fluid. There was also a service bulletin and recalls concerning this particular switch on multiple Ford vehicles except on my 2003 Windstar. Apparently, fires have been caused by this faulty switch. I paid for Ford to replace the switch which cost $145. 00 (parts and labor) but that did not solve the problem of the brake light and abs light. They indicated that the electronic control unit has failed due to the faulty switch.
