Abs and brake lamps intermittently come on. Abs is disabled when the lamps are on. This problem occurs frequently. The lamps come on when you start the van and stay lit, but sometimes for weeks the lamps do not come on at all and the abs works. I would estimate the lamps are on 60-70% of the time.
The contact owns a 2003 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that the abs lamp, traction control and brake warning lamps were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer and the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 103,000.
Abs module is bad - well known cold solder joint problem.
Braking distance suddenly increased.
Abs has intermittent failure, the warning light turns on and off. It is difficult to drive in snow and ice conditions as the vehicle braking becomes unpredictable.
2003 Windstar brakes turn on squeal without warning. Abs system reports a problem. So far only at low speeds and also appears to happen in the warmer weather. Returned car to dealer who had no clue as to the problem.
2003 Ford Windstar - we brought the car to the dealership because the "brake" and "abs" lights remain on. This is a failure of the anti-lock braking system. This is very unsafe to have a failure in the brake system. When we brought the car to the dealer today we had to pay over $1,200. 00 to have the brake system fixed. When you purchase a vehicle, you expect the brake system to be safe. We have seen many others with the exact same problem. This is a systemic problem with the brake system of 2003 Ford Windstars and the vehicles should be recalled.
2003 Windstar. The brake abs lite intermittently comes on, just bought the car, and this did not start until the weather got between 90 & 100 degrees. Sometimes does not do this for a week, and then again everytime you start the car.
Dashboard warning lights for both abs and brakes illuminated.
Braking distance suddenly increased. It occurs 75% of the time the vehicle is driven. When driving the vehicle the abs, brakes and traction lights illuminate. Its intermittent when this occurs, but occurs often. Occurs more often when temperatures are hot. Recall 09s09 was completed and problem started happening around time of repair.
Abs ecu seemingly has failed as the "brake" and "abs" lights come on soon after starting every time the Windstar is turned on. This was originally an intermittent problem, but is now continual. The only fix for these two lights is to repair the abs ecu.
Braking distance suddenly increased. After having my 2003 Ford Windstar serviced according to Ford recall 09s09 I continue to experience my dashboard light for both abs and brakes almost continually on when the car is running. I have been told by the Ford dealer that the addition of the fuses to prevent fires was the only thing called for in the recall. But obviously this alone did not fix the problem and I am driving around with no abs.
The amber abs warning lamp and the red brake warning lamp on the dashboard have been coming on intermittently since about November 2008. It has become more frequent as of late. Additionally, the steering wheel-mounted off control for the cruise control has only ever worked intermittently in the three years we have owned this vehicle. As the vehicle sat parked in the garage over night on September 2-3, 2009, the battery drained (2-month old battery; all connections are fine, and it subsequently took a charge from a charger). I read on Fords recall site that these are all symptoms of the voluntary recall that was issued by Ford in June 2008 involving speed control deactivation system. ¿ based on all the related complaints on this production model--1999-2003--I am very concerned that Ford's design is failing due to improper engineering, not normal wear-and-tear or owner neglect, abuse, or misuse. If the dashboard warning lights are on intermittently due to a design flaw of the control module whilst there is not actually a problem with the functionality of the brake system itself, there will not be any additional warning when there actually is a problem with the abs or the brake system. This needs to be recalled so that the warning system will function as it is supposed to.
Ford recall no. 09s09 - 49 cfr part 573-defect we were not informed of recall. -- per down-loaded pdf letter from Ford motor company today, this recall obligation expired on 12/8/2009. Question: is Ford obligated and required to pay for repairs in near future (July 19, 2011) to correct defect?.
Ford Windstar 2003. Brake and abs ligths on all the time after car has been driven for more than 15 minutes. More likely to happen when weather is hot.
Problem with the wiring in the abs system of my 2003 Ford Windstar. Due to a malfunction with the system fluid has eroded the wiring to the point where it could cause a fire. It's a substantial amount of money to fix the problem or I could have the abs system bypassed but then the vehicle wouldn't be safe. My Windstar has 58,000, "extremely low miles for this kind of problem" to quote my mechanic.
The contact owns a 2003 Ford Windstar. When the contact started the ignition the brake and anti-lock braking system warning indicators illuminated. The warning indicators remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing who stated that the failure was related to the anti-lock brake system. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure continued to occur. The failure mileage was approximately 58,000. Updated 12/14/2011 updated 02/23/11.
The abs and brake warning lamps are intermittently coming on. I had the system checked by two different certified auto repair shops and both responded that there were several codes creating the problem. They also mentioned the only solution is to replace the abs control module. After doing research on my own, I concluded that this is a common problem with the majority of 2003 Ford Windstar owners. I believe the abs modules are not manufacture correctly creating this problem. I also believe this is something that Ford needs to address on the 2003 Windstar.
Abs warning lamp and brake warning lamp illuminates. Mechanic advises me that this is a common problem on these models. Evidently Ford will not recognize the issue and help us to resolve it.
