I went to put the Ford in gear and it would not go into gear any gear, I see there is a lot of complaints on the matter. There should be a recall on this transmission before someone gets hurt or worse.
On our way to pittsburgh Monday December 16, 2012 for a little outing with our 18 month old son for the day just to get away from allegany county and was traveling westbound on route 40 when all of a sudden my van is traveling in neutral and will not go in any gear. We drifted the vehicle to a side road and called upon my aunt that has aaa. Sure that was not the right thing to do but hey we just bought this vehicle used on 11-4-11 and just received our actual tags on 1-3-12. Were pretty low on extra cash right now to be forking out 250. 00+ for a tow back to our home town. Considering gettin the van back on the roads gonna be half the price of what we paid for the heap to begin with. Absolutely loved the van when I first saw it at the used auto dealers. Clean inside and out and had low miles for the age of the vehicle. Dealer wasn't the best at taking care of the title and tag information as far as forwarding it to the mva so we could get our real tags and title to the vehicle. Had to call him a few days after christmas to get him on the ball and send the required info so we could get our tags since the temporary was about to expire. He acted quickly and had them for us at his shop on the 3rd of January. Now when I do a little research on 2003 Windstars from previous owners at least 80% of them write the same message as what im explaining. ( traveling along the highway all of a sudden without any type of warning boom no gears at all. ) I really wish I would have done some more research before I purchased this van considering way over half of them are junk. Thanks for your time and hopefully action is taken upon these Ford vans and something is done. Thank you.
Premature transmission failure. 105000 miles. Fluid replaced at recommended 60k interval. No indication of transmission problems. Van was parked, started and would not go into gear.

I have a 2003 Ford Windstar with 64750 miles. A few days ago my wife went to leave for work and when she put it into gear it would not move in any gear selected. Had my local mechanic look at it and he suspected a transmission problem. The vehicle was taken to aamco for repair and I was told that the transmission had blown up. I had no prior warning to this impending problem and now it is going to cost me $2100. 00 to repair the transmission. I was told by the transmission mechanic that this is a common problem with Ford Windstars and ironically another Windstar was in the shop for the same thing. He said that it is caused by defective parts that are prone to failure. I contacted Ford to see if there was a known problem and any recall on faulty transmission. I was told there was not and basically got the run around and told that there would probably be no help in repairing the transmission. I did further research and see that this is a common and frequent problem with the faulty transmission in the Windstar. Why is there no pressure put on Ford to rectify this problem of defective equipment. I have other vehicles with over 120,000 miles and have not had transmission problems. This should not be happening to a vehicle with only 64750 miles. I want to see Ford made to recall and remedy this problem. There are a lot of people out there that have had the same problem and the same results with Ford. Luckily this happened in the driveway and not on the road. This could have been a very unsafe incident if it had happened on the road.
While making a right hand turn, the van made a noise like it was shifting out of gear, then the car stopped. I had no problems getting the gears to shift before or after. After the van stopped, would not move into any gear. I tried reverse, neutral, drive, d2 and d1 and the car would not move at all.
