Brake Light Problems of Ford Windstar - part 1

I was driving down the road and our and and brake lights had came on. Took it to the local shop and was told about the c1185 code was on. We were driving on the way home, and it just comes and goes with every start up and shut off. Car was in motion. To my acknowledgement I'm not positive what is causing this issue but I've been researching and have read about many of the same issues in this particular van series. I've read about Ford's safety recall number 09s09 and and my vehicle is to be in that recall as well.

The contact owns a 2001 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that the rear brake lights failed to illuminate whenever the brake pedal was engaged. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the brake light fuse and both bulbs had to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The vehicle had not been repaired the failure mileage was unavailable.

Abs brake light will turn on and off at random times. Also, brake (e-brake) light comes on, interior lights occasionally flash, all running lights and headlights have gone out (really bad when driving down highway at night), and loss of all electrical (radio, lights, heater fan, dash illumination, headlights, running lights, etc. . . All go out at same time). Alternator and several batteries have been replaced. Electric windows will occasionally stop working as well. Obviously the huge issue here is the fact that the abs system may be disabled, dash warning lights randomly come on and off, and all electrical shuts off, with losing headlights and running lights being the biggest issue!.

When driving a various speeds, abs and brake lights come on and stay on.

Abs light steadily on will not turn off. Codes reads no codes: brake lights appears at will.

After going about 4 miles after starting up van, abs light comes on, occasionally the red brake light will come on too, speedometer goes crazy (up and down) and inside lights flicker at random. Seems to be some sort of electrical issue and/or brake issues.

Battery light comes on periodically - driving home my radio shut off, abs brake light came on, dash lights dimmed then shut off, head lights began flashing, heater may have stopped (not sure, was focusing on the next road to pull off on), could not accelerate. I pulled over, shut off the van and waited. A few minutes later it turned over like nothing was wrong. This also happened to me about a month and a half ago.

Abs and brake light comes on all the time and goes back out all the time. The right rear brake light blows out about every two weeks to two months, have replaced about 20 times since buying vehicle. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic and the mechanic stated that the failure may be due to a sensor, but he was not sure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.

Abs/brake lights are coming on constantly. . . . Losing power. . . . Front/passenger side windows will not work, lights go on and off. . . . .

2000 Ford Windstar. Consumer writes to express discontent regarding vehicles recalls the consumer stated she received four recalls for the vehicle. The consumer stated when she took the vehicle to the dealer for the recall regarding the replacement of the brake harness, the odometer and speedometer were damaged. The dealer informed her they were not responsible for damage caused by the defective part. When the consumer went to the dealer for another recall, they kept the vehicle for a week, only to be told the parts were not available to replace the rear axle.

Braking distance suddenly increased. Abs/ brake light remain on. Speedometer not working properly (inaccurate reading).

The contact owns a 2001 Ford Windstar. The contact was driving approximately 35 mph when the vehicle surged forward until he abruptly applied to the brakes. The failure also occurred while the contact was stopped with the brakes depressed. In addition, the brake light would intermittently illuminate while the vehicle was shut off. The vehicle was not taken to have the failures diagnosed and was not repaired. The contact stated that neither failure occurred until after the vehicle was repaired under the recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number: 10v385000 (suspension:rear:axle:non-powered axle assembly). The failure and current mileage was 126,000.

Lights turn on and of inside the car. The abs light and the brake light on and off. Windows stop working get stuck.

Abs and brake lights come on and off at different times when driven. My light system stays on all the time. Please help me get it recalled.

Abs and break light comes on randomly while driving. Seems to be more of a problem in the summer.

Abs and red internal brake light intermittently light up due to faulty switch. There is an unrelated recall issued for 1998-2003 Windstars but it does not cover this particular problem. Since the recalls was issued have seen that this problem is rampant among Windstar owners. This causes a safety issue as we are told it is just a switch and not to worry but then if there is a problem we are unaware.

The brake light and emergency brake light came on all of a sudden and the braking performance degraded and the braking distance requirement is long. This could be a safety issue. As I understand, the issue is the defective sensor with the soldier distance expanded due to the heat.

The brake lights on my 2002 Ford Windstar van will turn on by themselves at night, or will stay illuminated constantly during driving. When I arrive at my destination and with the ignition turned off I have to pump my brake pedal until the brake lights go off. There is frequently a burnt electrical smell when this problem occurs. I am delivering my Ford Windstar van to the local Ford dealership for repairs, but found several online websites and forums of Windstar owners with the exact same problem. I am concerned for the safety of myself, my family, and other drives while operating this vehicle. I am on my 3rd brand-new battery for this van due to the brake light problem. From research I think this is a design defect rather than wear and tear on my vehicle. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Abs and brake light come on when car is running for a while or heated up. Car smells like something is burning.

2001 Ford Windstar, abs light and brake light constantly coming on. Mechanic says there are over 11 codes showing up. This is the third time I've attempted to have this problem fixed, nobody can fix it, just keeps happening. I've heard about fires occurring and am worried about the safety of my family.

2002 Ford Windstar - brake lights staying on. Getting overheated & caused new battery to corrode and car to die. We had to jump start the vehicle. Read about faulty cruise switch causing this problem. We checked the cruise light and it no longer functions. Car was manufactured in 2001. It is the vehicle our newly permitted 15 year old son is driving. Why has this not been recalled? it is scary to think the breaks could go out on our son or that a fire could start.

My abs and emergency brake lights remain on, we have fixed the part for the cruise control, but the brake lights remain on. 96,000 miles.

Exterior brakes lights stay on as though the brake pedal is depressed, and even come on by themselves when no one is in the car. When you get in the car, there is a hot, overheated smell in the car. Several mornings I have gotten in the car to find that the battery is dead, and I have to jump the car to start.

This problem has been off & on for two years. Abs light and brake light are off & on, but 3 dealerships including Ford says the brakes are just fine after being replaced. I have spent $2000. 00 on brakes trying to have these problems fixed. Cruise control works off & on, I have taken it to 4 mechanics including Ford dealership and they cannot find the problems with the abs, they say it is an abs module and want to spend more hours to find the problem. Brakes have been replaced twice is two years.

On my 2003 Ford Windstar the abs system light is almost always on also my brake light is the same I have had my brakes checked many times I went to a Ford dealer and they said it would cost $500 dollars so I went to a different contractor and they said my brakes are fine please help.

Brake lights (all three) are lighted when no one is in car. It like the break lights stay lit after parking vehicle. You go to get in car and find the break lights are on as if break pedal is depressed. Interior of van smells like electric overheat.

Consumer stated that brake light worked intermittently. Consumer has took vehicle to the dealer and repairs were made. However, problem recurred. The vehicle was hit from the rear because the brake lights failed to come on when applying the brakes.

I had the car serviced at a private mechanic 4 times now and the problem has not been corrected. Is there any known recalls/problems with Fords brake lights??.
