Ford Windstar that has had 2 recalls for front and rear axels. Interior lights flash on and off randomly while driving. Doors lock and unlock randomly while driving. Very distracting and dangerous!.

The contact owns a 2003 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that the brake and abs lights remained illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle also leaked brake fluid from what appeared to be the master cylinder. He also stated that the dome lights flickered on and off intermittently. Occasionally the passenger side window would not open. The two bench rear windows would also open intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer but the dealer could not duplicate or diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact had not spoken with the manufacturer. The current mileage was 113,289. The failure mileage was 113,279.

Interior lights flash on and off very fast with key out and doors open. Will this be a bigger problem in the future and why should I pay for this problem to be corrected.

Abs and brake light are coming on in my 2003 Ford Windstar van. When you shut car off the light will go out and after driving for a while they come back on (even while have cruise control on)and stay on till car is shut off again.

2003 Windstar electronic concern -fuse no. 3 to power rear view mirror shorts out. Can not keep a fuse in it. The lite on mirror is great ideal. But does not work. I have taken it in they want 89. 00 to 100 check to run a ectric check to see why? I am still paying a bank fee and this van has run me in debt tring to fix it.

Abs module does not work, and shows a constant alarm light. Cost to repair is $2k door locks failed and have to be opened manually. Cost to repair is $500/lock power steering unit constantly noisy, hard to steer vehicle. No repair cost known. Door open light constantly on. No repair cost known. Interior lights do not come on when doors are opened. No repair cost known.

Interior light as well as beeping noise ringing nonstop while all doors are shut correctly. Dash light also stays on computer issue with system.

The door ajar light is on, checked all doors trying to open without touching the handles, and have cleaned the connections. Also, checked them to make sure there was no debris, and light was still on. Had an issue last year, cleaned it, and it went off, but now it was on. .

Interior lights flash on and off intermittently as driving. The lights include those on the dash, which makes it dangerous when driving at night. Please do a search for this problem on the internet and note the exceptional number of similar complaints posted by other owners.

Our 1999 Ford Windstar has 51,000 miles and transmission has failed. Yesterday (4/8/05) while driving kids home from school the van made a loud clunking noise and would not go into forward or reverse. Was able to roll to shoulder. We replaced battery a month ago, and while driving over the bay bridge (maryland) easter Sunday our headlights and dashboard lights began to dim and van seemed as if it was going to stall. By the time we drove 4 miles to home all lights were out and car was sputtering, wouldn't start. We then replaced the alternator. The o/d light has been flashing. Interior lights stay on sporadically as well as door ajar light when all doors are closed. Interior lights sometimes don't come on when van is parked and doors opened. No rhyme or reason to this. Tires have been replaced twice due to abnormal wear. We are getting quotes of between 1,600 and 2,800 for transmission. Also windshield cracked where mirror was reattached after it fell off. When we were just over 3 years and at around 25,000 miles, all dashboard warning lights came on also while driving on bay bridge. Took van to dealer (bob bell in glen burnie, MD) and they said they'd have it done that day but kept it a week. I threw a fit and got a loaner - a tin can on wheels. Ford eventually covered some of the repairs through a 'special program. ' I cannot beleive there has been no recall on these pieces of garbage with the number of transmission failures I see on this website. Nhtsa should force Ford to take responsibility for this nonsense and pay for these outrageous failures. We also have a Ford pickup and will never buy another Ford product. Henry must be rolling over in his grave.

While driving, the overdrive light flashed. The vehicle was towed and the dealer determined that the transmission was defective. The power locks did not operate properly, the rear seat belt was damaged when the vehicle was purchased, the inside lights did not go off when the door was shut.

Numerous things have gone wrong since we bought the vehicle. Items covered under warranty: electric seat stopped working twice, and transmission wouldn't shift when it was supposed to. Items not covered under warranty: brakes replaced at 30,000+ miles-told was normal for them to wear out so quickly; rack and pinion replaced at around 55,000 miles; months after brakes replaced, brakes grind loudly when coming to a stop (brakes checked numerous times, but was told they were ok); abs brake light comes on and stays on after driving (not illuminated on start up, but comes on later); back dome light not secure-falls out; dome lights sometimes come on when braking; check engine light on for months, didn't have it checked, but turned off by itself; sliding door drags-rusted on vechicle frame.

The door open/close indicator light remained on. Sometimes the light remained on for about an hour after the car was parked and turned off. This is an intermittent problem that has been occurring for about a year.

Continual problems with interior lights and locks because of the door ajar monitor. All doors are closed and door alarm monitor remains on which causes the interior lights to remain on at all times. Have to remove #29 fuse just to get interior and dome lights to shut off, even after ignition is off and key removed. Otherwise battery will die as lights do not go off as they are supposed to. Driving with dome light continuously on is a very big safety hazard, especially at night. However removing this fuse also results in loss of electric window function which should also be a safety hazard. This has been happening for at least four years. Everytime I take it to the dealer, it would stop for a short while and then subsequently act up again. I am the sole owner of this vehicle and purchased it new in 1998. I feel these parts should have been made correctly to begin with and/or should have been recalled to be repaired. I will never buy another Ford vehicle because of this safety hazard.

When engine is started and all doors are closed and latched, the door ajar light stays on and interior dome lights stay on as well as the door ajar chime rings. This is continuous while driving, and eventually turns itself off. This creates a hazard especially while backing as it is not possible to see behind vehicle at dusk or dark. There is no consistency as to when this happens. It has been found that if a door is indeed ajar, that the door ajar light will stay on, but the dome light will go off as will the chime.

Have a 1998 Ford Windstar van and the problem is that my interior lights and sensor showing that your door is open does not turn off. Even all the door are closed. Sometimes the interior lights go off but the beeping noise does not stop.

When we open the doors, sometimes the interior lighting does not come on. Other times it blinks on and then goes off. Even other times it will blink quickly. Sometimes the lights come on and will not go off after doors have been closed. While driving the dashboard lighting will sometimes blink on and off as well. The vehicle has been taken to the dealer, but the could not reproduce the problem for the short time they had the vehicle. This makes since because of the intermittent nature of this problem. I am concerned that the dashboard lighting could be a safety issue or if the problem moves to other systems such as exterior lighting.

Consumer states that instrument light panel is not working at all. Dealer notified.

The inside courtesy did not shut off.

Door ajar light stays on all the time. Chimes stay on when car is started until the speed reaches around 15 mph. But as soon as I slow down and stop, the chimes come on again.

Seat belt alarm,light, and courtesy light would remain on while driving. Dealer was not notified at this time.

Dome light will automatically stay on even after doors are closed. Contacted dealer.

Door ajar light on dash is on constantly when all doors are shut. Chime is also going off at all times. When chime is on it is not possible to lock doors. Vehicle at dealership at this time.

Passenger's sliding door will not close correctly and dome light will come on. Contacted dealer. The passenger sliding door comes ajar and the door light comes on in the dashboard. The dealer had tried to fix the problem eight times.

Ajar bell keeps ringing, dash light is on, and lights up. Door is not open, but bell continues to ring.

The interior courtesy lamps do not go out when doors are closed. Door ajar light comes on. Ford is well aware of this problem and its a safety issue as driver cannot see during night driving unless fuse is pulled. Interior lights cannot be shut off with the dimmer switch!!. . Dealers play dumb when you discuss this issue. Three neighbors have same problem. This is an accident waiting to happen!!!!!!!!.

Light that indicates door is open stays illuminated. Light gets so hot that it may cause a fire. The switches have been replaced. The Ford company is aware of the problem and doesn't want to fix unless consumer pays out of pocket. The sliding door was replaced.

Accelerator went down on its own while in reverse, no brakes to stop, resulting in a accident. Steering vibrates, recommend rotating the tires. Interior seats slightly twisted, door locks works sometime, interior lights work sometimes.

Door ajar light and courtesy light would remain on after shutting doors. Dealer/manufacturer notified, and informed consumer that there are no recalls concerning that problem.

Without prior warning door warning light comes on panel, and light will stay on. Interior light will go off, but the sound of the chime will not stop. Dealerlership is aware of problem.

Interior dome light stays on until 15-20mph is reached. Dash light indicator says door is open. Isolated problem to sliding door on passenger side. Problem is intermittent. Take to Ford dealerships on 3 seperate ocassions and all 3 times the problem mysteriously went away. Also when this happens the rear wiper doesn't work all the time.

Brought van in first time and got charged $132. 00 for them to tell me nothing is wrong,problem keeps happening when driving . Ford want me to return it when it happens and cannot do this. Iterior lights stay on. I have an extended warranty on the vehicle. I don't want to get strianded with my 3 children.
