Failure Date: 10/07/2015

Too make a long story short. I had about three recall on my Ford Windstar and now my whole van shut down on me. My computer I guess got it on auto theft lock and I can't even turn over now. It's just sitting in my parking lot just helpless. I have another recall but I cant take it to the Ford dealership because I cant turn over. Oh yea. It kept cutting off while im driving, don't let me stop at a light it will cut off on me there alot. It does that alot. I bought it from a car lot but he doesn't want to do anything about it. So I lost out of my money. When I turn it also cut off.

41 Wheel problem of the 2001 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 09/11/2015

While driving the vehicle at highway speeds, I heard a crunching sound in the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle then began to sway on the road. I had to slow my speeds and pull over at a safe spot, which was a parking lot to inspect what the issue was. After inspection, I noted the passenger rear tire was at an angle with the top of the tire inward touching the frame. I took the vehicle to the closest repair shop where I found from their inspection that the axle was broke and the vehicle was not driveable. My vehicle was part of the Ford Windstar axle recall, which was serviced by the local Ford dealer in 2012. This vehicle had the reinforcements added to the axle in 2012. The axle broke between the reinforced plates welded to the axle during the recall check. Now after towing the vehicle back to the local Ford dealer for inspection, I find out that Ford will not stand behind the issue and not repair or replace the axle due to the length of time from the recall. I feel lucky that I was able to maintain control of the vehicle when the axle broke.

42 Wheel problem of the 2000 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 09/01/2015

9/1/2015 entering northern state parkway west went over bump/pothole rear axel suspension cracked and dropped also blew driver side rear tire. Van had to be towed to shop. Corosion on rear axel, brackets sealed to old axel,Ford must reinforce axel. Axel recalled 2010/2011 must be refixed by Ford.

43 Wheel problem of the 2002 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 07/20/2015

Rear axel cracked after period of time resulting in blow out tire in a parking lot. After researching this online, I have found Ford recalled this same van for this same problem but did not in our state although the recall was due to states with weather like snow, ice, salt, etc which caused said issue. Why wouldnt nebraska be included in this since its nebraska and its snowy alot? luckily we were in a parking lot, we were not driving at high rate of speed down highway like I saw while researching this online which a man was killed who had this happen. I have found that this seems to be a very dangerous and tragic mistake made by Ford and now my van sits in a parking lot with no way for me to get it to a shop to get a repair made even if I did have the funds to do this. At least I would want my van in my driveway, not in a grocery store parking lot with no means of getting it home, besides the fact that being a woman, I would have kept driving it not knowing and could have been in a serious accident such as ones I have seen since looking into this issue. I have taken photos of cracked axel in rear and also front due to weather and climate and found the court papers saying which states were included in this recall, yet nebraska not one of them? makes no sense. So do I go and drive it home anyways and just hope we dont die in the process. . Or do I let it sit in a shady part of town parking lot forever? being a single mother of 3, I would have thought Ford might see the all the news about this and have done more to prevent so many incidents, one of which someone died. The court papers indicated that they knew about it 10 years before recall. I noticed the van drove rough over bumps recently, but thought maybe it was shocks, until I found my tire not just flat, but looking as if it was slashed in the parking lot because it literally blew up.

44 Wheel problem of the 2001 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 06/19/2015

The contact owns a 2001 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that while driving at 55 mph, the right passenger side tire failed and noticed that the sub frame rotted out while installing the spare tire. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 177,000.

45 Wheel problem of the 2000 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 06/15/2015

I bought my van used just a month before I noticed this defect, I came outside to get in the van and noticed the rear wheels leaning slightly inward at the top. My son in law inspected it further to discover that the rear axle had bent. Upon further investigation we discovered that there had been a recall on all Ford Windstar models between 1998 and 2003. We notified Ford and they told us that this vehicle had already been recalled and repaired in 2011 and the repair had a 12 month warranty. My son in law checked and sure enough there were repair sleeves wrapped around the rear axle at both ends. This repair did not fix the original problem because the rear axle had cracked right under where the repair sleeve was placed and had bent bad, bad enough that both rear tires were rubbing the inner fenders at the top and the van was sitting much lower in the rear end than it should have been. Thank god I had noticed the problem before the axle completely cracked in half the rest of the way because there is nothing else holding the rear wheels onto the vehicle and if I was driving the wheel and part of the axle could have flown off to who knows where and possibly killed me and whoever else was in the van. I've had to completely replace the rear axle with another part from another van which is also defective and will soon have to be replaced again. Ford takes no responsibility for this past the original "fix" which was warrantied for only 12 months. The recall was not a good fix and seems to have only been a band aid to keep customers quiet until the warranty on it runs out. I have done research online and found that this is not an isolated incident and in fact has happened to many hundreds of people, coincidentally around the same time as my incident happened.

46 Wheel problem of the 2000 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 06/12/2015

I got this van used from a family member then checked with local Ford dealer to make shure recall work was done aka rear axle beam and front subframe were done they assured me that it was done about 2 monthes later the axlebeam broke due to corosion under the clamp they put on to stop this from happaning I almost lost control of the van went to the dealer next morning and they told me there weas nothing they can do as case was closed this repair does not fix the problem or prevent it from seperating if I was at highway speed the van whould have flipped they have sence sent us a letter stating the clamps may not have been installed right and want to charge for a replacement axle 300 I was travaling 25 miles an hour when this happened I have more pictures then this will allow me to upload but I have replaced the axle using my own garadge seeing how I cannot trust the dealler.

47 Wheel problem of the 1999 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 05/27/2015

The factory recall notice required trailing axle reinforcement brackets to be installed on the rear axle. They were installed at the dealership, along with an upgrade to the front control arm mounts. The rear axle broke while driving on the highway, the speed I was travelling at was only 45 mph at the time of the break. As the axle collapsed, the rear tires began rubbing against the wheel wells. I slowed down and pulled over immediately, seeing smoke from the rear. The crack occured on the driver's side of the axle, underneath the repair bracket that was installed by Ford. ( obviosly placed over the weak/defective area. ) the vehicle had only 80,000 miles on it in may of 2011 when we obtained it, the same year the recall repair was performed. In the last 4 yearsa I drove 175,000 highway miles, have regularly washed and maintained this vehicle well, (including undercarriage washes in the winter). I've recently replaced the entire ignition system, front suspension/brake components, and rear shocks. It's a real shame that this vehicle is disabled by a weak rear axle when there's plenty of life left in the engine and transmission. With regular full synthetic oil changes, cooling and transmission flushes, new aligned front steering, I expected to get over 300,000 miles out of this van. Now I have to find a good used rear axle, but will have no faith in its durability or safety.

48 Wheel problem of the 2002 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 05/09/2015

They had a recall in 2011 where they put support brackets on the rear axels. Mine did have the brackets put on and right behind the bracket the axle still broke driving down the street at 40 mph where we almost hit another car with children inside her and my vehicle. Ford said the brackets are only warrantied for 12 months. These vans do not need brackets they need new axles.

49 Wheel problem of the 2003 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 05/04/2015

I learned of a front axle recall and when I called the dealership to schedule repairs, they informed me of a rear axle recall, so "repairs" were made to both front and rear axles at the same time. However, this morning on my way to work (luckily traveling at 25 mph vs 75 on the interstate last night) the rear axle broke midway between where the bracket, which was supposed to reinforce the axle, was attached.

Corrected recall was not done effectively within two years of repaired recall beam axle failed at the end of the repaired area.

52 Wheel problem of the 2002 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 10/29/2014

After driving down a major highway north of boston, MA (128/95 north) my wife and I, first heard scraping noise that became louder and began smell like burning rubber/brakes. The car lurched across the roadway/highway and we swerved and almost sideswiped car in the adjacent lane. We were in the process of exiting the highway on the off ramp to my work at rte 28 south stoneham/wakefield. We were able to pull over, gather our thoughts and continue to a gulf station on rte 28 in stoneham, MA. The gulf station mechanic/manager said he had never seen anything like it, a rear axle literally splitting in half. After viewing the rear broken axle and looking at the condition of the front right end and the overall condition of the sub frame they politely and forgivenly said they have rarely seen such a thing (cracked/separated rear axle and went on to say they have only seen this in Ford Windstars and went on to talk about a local women whose Ford Windstar lost control on the highway at 60 mph with her 3 children and were scared to death and in conclusion would not touch the vehicle and warned that the vehicle was beyond safe driving and repair. They were shocked that although there was some kind of brace on the axle in two places that the axle had snapped in two at the reinforcement and said even without the reinforcement on the rear axle they have never seen a rear axle split in two and compounded with the fact that it actually had a reinforcement bracket fail. Reiterating axles and sub frames are not wear and tear parts and in fact had never seen broken rear axles and sub frames crack and break and corroded to this extent. Their reaction was of disturbing to say the least. They said broken axles just don,t happen and with added reinforcement it was "beyond belief" they had broken in half.

53 Wheel problem of the 2001 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 10/27/2014

The rear axle broke in the place that was "fixed" by the recall work in 2010. Noticed squeaking noises (tire was rubbing) and a large clunk and wiggle when turning into a parking lot. Took a photo when I got to the parking lot. My rear driver's side tire was at an angle to the vehicle and the rear axle was broken under the collar that had been attached by a dealer for the recall. The weld held up, but the axle snapped underneath the fix-up job. Apparently the recall fix wasn't really a fix. Towed it into a dealer, who took photos and talked to Ford. Ford said they wouldn't do anything. Cost me $$ to tow it to the dealer and back home again. Don't have $1,000 to pay the dealer for a new rear axle. Very disappointed that they didn't stand by their work. Very thankful that I was not on the freeway, and that all my children were not with me at the time. It could have been so much worse!.

54 Wheel problem of the 2000 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 08/30/2014

My 2000 Ford Windstar was repaired last year on a recall for the possible rear axle failure. Ford installed brackets on the rear axle as a remedy. On Saturday 8-30-14, the rear axle failed. The axle is actually broken and the break can be seen inside of the bracket they installed. I called Ford and they told me they don't warranty the recall remedy repair. What are my options to have this remedied in good faith?.

55 Wheel problem of the 2002 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 08/16/2014

While driving my van I heard a very loud noise and my driver's side tire immediately went flat. I was able to pull the vehicle safely to a stop along the side of the road. I called a tow truck and had my vehicle looked at by the mechanic who informed me that a coil spring around my strut broke which caused my tire to be sliced open from the inside of the tire. I was very lucky I was not going any faster when the spring broke and sliced my tire open. I reviewed issues online that other people were having relating to my issue regarding the make and model of my vehicle. Apparently Ford had a recall on the Windstar coil springs from a different year of the Ford Windstar vans due to the very same problem with the coil springs breaking and causing the tire to be punctured or sliced open from the inside. I am also very concerned after reading that the part had to fail before it would be addressed. It seems that if there is a safety recall it should be completed before a failure occurs and not after. This could have caused a very serious accident had I been on an interstate or even if I were going 55 miles per hour on the highway. I did contact Ford motor company regarding this issue and was told that Ford would not assist with the repairs because my vehicle was not recalled for this issue. I own two Ford vehicles and I could not believe that my issue was not of a concern to Ford. I probably will not buy another Ford because of this. My family's safety has to come first and I am not convinced we will be safe if the company won't address these types of safety issues.

56 Wheel problem of the 2003 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 07/19/2014

Sidewall split on bridgestone insignia se 200, size 215x70r15, dot # wbm3 e20 0210. Mileage on tire 39k, still good tread depth. I still have tire if any agency would like to inspect. Didn't take it back to bridgestone b/c from what I have read, they would do nothing about it.

57 Wheel problem of the 2002 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 07/02/2014

I heard a loud popping noise coming from the back of my van. Took it to the repair shop and learned the rear axle had a large crack and was almost broken in half. Ford has a recall in effect for 2002 Ford Windstar's for axles that are cracking/breaking (NHTSA campaign number: 12v195000); however, Ford is saying that my VIN number is not a part of their recall even though I have a 2002 Ford Windstar. I had the rear axle welded to repair the crack. This was on the passenger side of the axle. I started hearing popping sounds again, returned to the repair shop only to learn the axle is now broken on the driver side of the axle. This is a serious situation and I feel since Ford has a recall on this issue that my vehicle should be included. I am afraid to make another repair since the axle may still crack again. Please contact Ford to make them include all effected 2002 Ford Windstar vehicles before someone gets seriously hurt!!.

58 Wheel problem of the 2000 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 06/22/2014

I was driving home from work at about 915 pm June 22 2014, when I hear my back tires sound like they were catching a flat. I slowed down and pulled over into a restaurant parking lot. When I pulled in I hear a loud scratch sound and I smelled burning rubber really bad. My cousin came on the scene to pick me up and he looked under the van and took a picture. The axle cracked in half and the back tires looked pushed in at the top and protruding out at the bottom. . If I had been going the speed limit of 5o mph I would have had an accident. I have 5 children waiting at home for me when I get off work. Im just thankful I didnt have an accident. But now I dont know how I can continue working without my van.

59 Wheel problem of the 2000 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 06/22/2014

Was driving home from work about 930 pm June 22 2014 and started to feel like I was getting a flat in the back then I started smelling rubber burning and the back end of car kept swaying almost out of control then I heard a noise so I pull over slowly and both my back tires were pushed in at the top and out at the bottom. . I had my van towed to Ford at 1 commerce blvd north brunswick off of route 1. . And it has been there ever since I called to check and see how long it would take to fix and the service department told me they are waiting on the part and they have 3 other Windstars to fix. . . Now it has been almost a month and I still have heard nothing.

60 Wheel problem of the 2001 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 06/01/2014

We had our left rear tire blow out and it tore off our fuel filler pipe. I imagine this could be extreamly dangerous if the rim had sparked it could have caught fire.

61 Wheel problem of the 2001 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 04/08/2014

During normal operation of vehicle at posted driving speed limits the vehicles abs, brake warning lights have continuously come on after driving begins. It has been also noted that after several brake service inspections and repairs at major auto repair shops, such as midas, carx , and pep boys. Technicians have observed that the brake systems major components and hardware appeared to have failed due to high levels of corrosion and easily rusting parts such as brake shoes, pads, wheel cylinders, brake drums, brake line hoses and connectors. Each of these repair shops have informed me that the repair/ replacement of many of these vital components would be extremely costly to repair and could result in serious injuries or create a hazardous situation for the vehicle's operator and other drivers if not repaired immediately. The vehicles brakes and hardware have been replaced more than three times by asae certified /qualified mechanics and the brake systems warning lights continuously remain on during regular operation. The rear brakes are grinding and wearing the brake shoes down much faster than they did before even after repairs have been completed. Currently when applying the brakes before coming to a full stop the brake peddle must be applied at a distance of at least 30 seconds sooner to ensure a safe stop. I do believe that there is a high risk of concern in the failure of the Ford Windstar brake system operations and a thorough inspection of the abs system and brakes including its major components should be inspected immediately to prevent a serious accident or injuries to the vehicle's operator and to protect the safety of the general public.

62 Wheel problem of the 2001 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 03/20/2014

Vehicle had voluntary recall done to it in 2011. It has now broken in same place as others have explained. Recall is a sham and Ford is getting away with continuing to replace with defective parts. Please investigate.

64 Wheel problem of the 2003 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 10/18/2013

My 2003 Ford Windstar was taken in for the rear axle recall and was repaired. The axle has cracked again we took it to the dealer who said that they contacted Ford about the problem and were told they would not repair or replace the axle the van only has 47000 miles on it we would like to have it repaired or replaced at Ford expense.

65 Wheel problem of the 2003 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 10/15/2013

Purchased a 2003 Ford Windstar on 10/14/13,drove vehicle to south carolina from new jersey on 10/15/13,about halfway there noticed a loud clunking while braking, or turning vehicle left or right. Had vehicle looked at by mechanic on 10/24/13. It was diagnosed as having a completely rotted subframe and motor mounts. I looked into recalls on the vehicle and found one for the subframe ,number 11s16. I called Ford motor corporation on oct30,and 31st about the recall. I was told it was repaired back in apr18,2011. Repairs done were an inspection of subframe, and all looked well. Subframe was never replaced ,now 2 years later,Ford has wiped it's hands clean of the recall saying it was satisfied on apr18,2011,by a mechanic claiming the subframe looked ok at the time. How does a faulty part that could cause a major accident, become ok because it looked good at the time of inspection?I am appalled and dishearten that a major corporation such as Ford would take the easy way out and say it's not responsible for a part that they recalled initially, and now say that because it was inspected,it now is fine. I thought a recall was in place for public safety, and if so,how does it expire?.

66 Wheel problem of the 2000 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 10/01/2013

My abs light stays on and traction control engages on dry pavment when turning corner leaving the van idle untill I let off gas. Brought in and was told these codes c1235,c1410,b1318. Also about possible recall.

67 Wheel problem of the 2002 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 09/25/2013

The abs, track off, brake light indicators, and check traction control intermittently illuminate. They remain on until the key is turned off, and then reset. The frequency is intermittent and not measurable. Initial checks have no results as the lights are out when checked by a repair shop.

68 Wheel problem of the 2002 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 08/17/2013

We were slowing to pull up to our home. We were driving about 10 mph. About 70 feet from our home. It sounded like there was a flat tire with rubbing and bumping noises. We parked on the street in front of our home. Upon inspecting the vehicle, the tires were intact. The tires are bowing in. We looked under the rear of the car. We saw a large crack of the rear axle closer to the driver's side of the car. Ford recalled the rear axle for this very reason 3 years ago due to corrosion caused by years of exposure to salted roads. Ford performed the recall work by placing a bracket on the axle. The brake on our axle occurred under the bracket. Ford is not assuming responsibility even though the supports they placed on the axle failed to do their job. There are other complaints this year for this same problem. The big difference between all the broken axles this year were the speed of the vehicles and type roads they were traveling on. I believe that there more out there that have had this same problem that have not been reported to this website yet. I also believe that more axles that have already received the recall fix are going to find their axles breaking in the near future as well. As for now the recall of these axles, Ford has closed the case until forced to reopen the recall. Ford should replace the entire axle on all the Windstars that were under the original recall.

69 Wheel problem of the 1998 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 07/26/2013

While driving my Mini van the right rear wheel (the complete wheel) fell off! upon safely parking the van, I came to realize the entire rear axel had sheared in half! by a stroke of luck I found out there was a recall for this and also for the cruise control. I am having it replaced/fixed at dealers cost. Since this vehicle was bought used off a used dealers lot, I would like to make the following suggestion. . . There should be some type of mandantory law that all dealers, new and used, should have access to this website and be legally forced to check each and every vehicle prior to being sold.

70 Wheel problem of the 2004 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 07/08/2013

Returned van to dealership, rear end making noise. Previous recall (August 2012) fix to reinforce rear axle now shows axle is cracked. Ford says they will not enact a repair, after numerous calls to customer service, the rep stated the recall department stated the fix is performing and the vehicle is safe to drive regarding the rear axle. I asked that they state that in writing to me. Looking at your website and the fatality that caused this recall, I suspect the car is not safe. The dealership agrees. What is your take? paul ives 630 668 4841 903 s hale st. Wheaton, IL 60189 pives@sbcglobal. Net.
