1 Engine Oil Leaking problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2018

Our vehicle only has 86k miles and the rack and pinion is leaking heavily. The dealer stated that this is a known issue, but it is out of warranty. Sometimes, the power steering cuts out and it is very difficult to move the steering wheel. We believe that this imposes serious risk while driving and the problem can happen at any time. There is no repeatable scenario to demonstrate the failure. It is random. The front engine cover also leaks oil heavily. The dealer also stated this is a known issue. This could result in rapid engine oil loss and engine failure while driving. I took the vehicle to the dealer yesterday for inspection. Unfortunately no pictures were taken, but their two technicians inspected the vehicle and agreed on the known issues. The service advisor also agreed on the known issues. I inquired about gm helping with these known issues, but the dealer stated that their district aftersales manager was not kind or helpful and would revert to general motor's online goodwill calculator. He accessed the online system which determined my vehicle was out of warranty and/or coverage and that there was no goodwill available to use for my vehicle. We're not looking for goodwill, but rather for gm to repair these high risk product failures. Since these components wear with use, not time, we feel that with our low usage, these components should not have failed.
