Tl-the contact owns a 2008 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that water filled up in the fuse box from a faulty drainage for the windshield wiper fluid causing the vehicle not to start. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 171,000. Ad.
At 96,000 miles my transmission went out completely. I had to replace it, and it cost me over $2500k this is insane. . . . . And they are known for the 2008 transmission failures. The dealer refused to help in any way. . . .
I was driving on i5 to north from California and the car stop working just like that!!! I just feel a big push and the stop working.
My transmission went out on my car at 84,400 miles.
Engine block developed a crack that allows coolant to seep through block.
I was driving the vehicle and it puttered in the middle of intersection as I was turning which is a busy street. It slowed down drastically on its own. Which caused my children to swing forward and back in there seat. My children were in the car it was very scary. This is not safe!!! according to GMC service the timing chain did not break, was stretched to the extent that the remote start would not work along with codes being set. Would like to know the real reason for such premature failure and what if any actions are being taken to remedy this. There has to be more than just putting a new chain on and crossing your fingers. Really do not buy into the theory of dirty oil causing it,maybe lack of oil resulting from poor design. I get my oil chain faithfully and maintenance done. This is not safe at all. I have a sick child that needs to get to dr appts this needs to be fixed. There was a recall for 2007 and 2009 models which GMC fixed. My 2008 should be fixed in the recall also.
The contact owns a 2008 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced a complete loss of power and was no longer operable. The check engine warning indicator illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission malfunctioned and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the independent mechanic again where the engine was replaced again. The failure recurred. In addition, the engine oil coagulated and the air bag light remained illuminated. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 110,000.
My 2008 GMC Acadia would not start and the key could not be removed from the ignition. The vehicle was towed to a GMC dealership. The mechanic diagnosed that the sunroof was leaking into the headliner and going straight to the fuse block. I had to replace the fuse block, battery as well as seal the leak around the sunroof and cowl. GMC refused to pay anything towards this repair and will not issue a recall. I spent $1,200 just to fix this due to GMC's poor craftsmanship. Mileage of car is 104,00.
The contact owns a 2008 GMC Acadia. While driving at an unknown speed, the contact noticed an abnormal odor emitting from the engine compartment and the engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who was unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 50,000.
After starting my car (and sitting still), I put my car in reverse, my car started shaking and my dashboard lit up like a christmas tree. Service engine soon, service stabilitrak, reduced engine power. This is a serious safety issue and needs to be addressed now! had I been traveling at a high rate of speed, or if my children had been in the car with me when this happened, I shudder to think what could've happened. Please, please put out a recall to address this issue. Again, I feel that it is a safety issue and I have seen several other complaints on gm forums/blogs.
TSB reference- sb-11340 should be extended to 2008 Acadias. Initial oil change intervals were very long for this model year and were subsequently shortened. The bulletin indicates that the extended intervals can lead to timing change stretch and this has happened to ours and other 2008 Acadias.
Service stabilitrak, traction control off, and reduced engine power are messages that have been flashing across my screen. This has caused the car to completely shut off on me at random time. I now have been told this is a timing chain issue that needs replaced and is going to cost over $2000. There are recalls on the 2007 & 2009 Acadias for timing chain needing replaced prematurely, why is the 2008 model excluded?? there are complaints on the 2008 models all over the internet. I hope you guys take this into consideration. It is not a coincidence that the 08 models are having the same timing chain problem. Please make this right.
During acceleration the vehicle vibrates when going between 35 and 45 mph. Was not able to reproduce issue at dealership last fall, but is now getting much worse. Happens almost everytime the vehicle accelerates.
I have brought my vehicle in before our trip to massachussetts to the gm dealer in hastings, mn as the stop engine now/fuel pressure light kept coming on all the time. They told me that it is probably just a sensor issue. So I drove my car. In the last few weeks more lights came on such as trataction control is out, stabilization needs attention, breaks need attention, and check engine. So they figured just more sensor issue. 9/9/14 I was backing out a parking spot with a friend of mine and my power steering was disabled and almost caused and accident when the break service light came on. Finially my husband took it back to the dealer to find that now I need a new timing chain and updates $2045, transmission control module w/selenoid $1226. 58, and master cylinder and brake booster $690. 00. They should have caught this before as gm is well aware of the issues according to complaints online and the service man who told me he sees this a lot. I noticed there is a recall on 2007 and 2009 for several of these issues. Had I not have my husband bring this in again I am sure there would have been a severe accident involving me and possibly my children. Gm offered to pay for half the services but honestly they know this is an issue with their model. To tell people nothing is wrong, nothing is wrong and bamb everything wrong at just 120k miles seems fishy. I want this fixed before someone gets hurt. I have a friend with the same model with many of the same issues. This is not fair to leave consumers in the dark considering this is vehicle mostly used by families.
I just had the clutch wave plate break into pieces inside my transmission causing us to almost get into an accident as my kids and I were getting on the freeway. We lost our gears and had to be towed. I looked up the issue and it sounds like this is a more than common issue with the Acadia at this mileage. If this is such a well-known issue why does gm not fix this issue?.
The contact owns a 2008 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that upon inspection, it was found that the timing chain had worn prematurely. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the timing chain needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in the manufacturer's recall. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 97,940.
While driving on the interstate the stabilitrak, traction control and reduced power lights came on. The car was running really rough and I had to cross traffic to pull over. I turned it off and sat for 5-10 minutes. I started it and it acted like nothing had happened. I drove it directly to a chevy dealer and they said the only thing they could find was that it appeared that the throttle body had moisture in it and the moisture had frozen. They dried it out and its been fine, until last week. I was on my way to chicago, again on the interstate, and the all the lights started coming on, then the engine light, but I did not lose power this time. I'm really afraid to drive my car and unfortunately I have several more trips to chicago in the near future. I would take our other vehicle, but it is also a gm product and is having the same issues. I have read many forums where the same situation has been happening for as far back as 6 years and appears to be a major problem for a lot of gm owners. People are having sensors changed out, throttle body replaced and other work done on their vehicles and nothing is solving the problem. Gm needs to find out what the problem is and fix it! its very dangerous to be driving along in wall to wall traffic and lights start coming on and there is the possibility of losing power in the middle of all that! unfortunately, since we have two gm vehicles with the same problem, there is no way to avoid driving one of them. Fyi - I also read that there are problems going on with leaks in the rack and pinion and sway bar issues. I had a leak in my rack and pinion and had to replace the sway bars last fall.
The contact owns a 2008 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that after the ignition was turned off and the key removed the vehicle remained on for five minutes. The failure was not diagnosed nor was the vehicle repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 108,000.
Approximately 80000 miles on a 2008 Acadia, the engine starts ticking. Bring it in to the dealer, they change the oil, check to see if it still ticks, yes it does. Tell us that we need a new engine, $7000 parts, labor and new warranty. I find it hard to believe that an '08 with 80000 miles and just 6 months past original warranty requires a new engine. Please explain?.
The contact owns a 2008 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the vehicle failed to accelerate over 20 mph. The stabilitrac and several other warning lights illuminated. Additionally, the vehicle shook violently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure could not be diagnosed. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 92,000. The VIN was unavailable.
I was merging onto highway when the rpm's on my vehicle went to 5 (or above) and the vehicle lurched into gear. After that happened, the vehicle would not go above 45mphs. Every time the vehicle would need to change gears after this the rpms would climb before changing gears. The vehicle was taken to the dealership and I was advised it was the transmission.
I was driving on a major highway. The car would not change gears to accelerate. When I got home the car would barely move when I tried to back into my driveway. The engine revved as if the car was in neutral. This transmission failure could have caused a serious or fatal accident, as the speed limit was 55 and I had no warning that the car would not accelerate when expected.
Wave plate transmission failure 2 months after purchase and 5 months after warranty. So disgusted!!!.
Transmission failure - wave plate broken forcing vehicle to be stuck in one gear and fail in reverse, 3rd and 4th gears. Automatic transmission slips in reverse, 3rd and 4th. Multiple owners report same issues and recall is needed by gm on the Acadia transmission.
2008 GMC Acadia slt-2 with 42,300 miles; not yet 6 years old. "service stability control" and "service traction control" warnings received periodically. This week, transmission started to shift unevenly; not correctly upshifting/downshifting while driving at 30mph. Car now only operates in 1st gear. No higher gears, no reverse. . . . . Engine just revs. Car has complete service rec no longer safely driveable. Appears to be part of the known waveplate issue. Why no recall with the great number of similar Acadias with the same problem over and over? thanks for your attention.
Vehicle experiencing bad transmission problems when shifting between 3rd and 5th gears. As accellerating, the vehicle begins to shift, but begins to idle and rpm's rise extremely high. Vechile begins to slow down and finally jerks into the next gear causing rapid acceleration. This issue almost caused me to run into a car in front of me after pulling off from a stoplight. It is extremely scary to continue to drive the car, but with this being my only vehicle and I must work, I am forced to drive daily. Warranty just expised 5 months ago in March and I cannot afford to fix the problem (March 24, 2013, 5 year/100,000 mi. Powertrain). Vehicle was purchased March 24, 2008.
I have experienced multiple issues with my 2008 GMC Acadia my first problem was with the transmission having to be replaced. Which just barely was covered under the warranty I had after buying the vehicle used since that first incident I have had continual problems. My engine will stay running after the key is turned to the off position and the key is removed from the ignition the car continues to stay running the engine does that is all other lights go off no radio or ac stay on. I have had it in the shop different times no one can correctly diagnose and fix the issue. I am now watching the tow truck hook my car up to be taken to the GMC dealer which is going to cost more than I am sure I can afford to pay as a single mother trying to make ends meet. So besides the engine running with no key in it. It also kills the battery drains it when it sits. I have also had issues with the wiring harnesses to the head lights melting to the back if the bulbs having to be replaced costing over $200. There has to be some kind of electrical issue with this car there seem to be many people on here with similar issues with transmission and odd issues. Please help I can't afford this car and the continual issues.
Had to wait to give my daughter a ride. Sat in the pouring rain for about 40 minutes. Put the car in drive and began to pull forward and water poured down the windshield from the inside. Water also came in from the front left curtain airbag and the visor arm. Engine began to idle rough. Anti-lock brakes grab on low speed slow down. Our area of texas is drought prone so no more significant rain until July 14-16. Water pours in the front windshield, both driver and passenger side. Water from curtain airbags and under the dash. Standing water in the floor board. Obd light is on and my parking break warning light turns on and off. Park assist goes on and off. The warning chime comes on while driving and won't turn off. No telling how much damage all of this will cause. I have one more payment until the thing is mine free and clear. No warranty and no recourse. It figures.
Transmission blew.
I was driving my 2008 GMC Acadia along with my sister and her two god children. We were at a red light and proceeded to go when the light turned green. Got up to 20mph and the SUV jerked severely. Once it jerked the SUV would not go over that mileage. We were all scared! I took them home and drove to a gm dealership. I paid $114. 00 for a diagnostic test and was told they did not know what was wrong. They speculated that a wave plate broke or moved. They advised in order to know for sure, I would have to pay 900. 00 plus for a deeper diagnostic! I'm under my 100k mileage and no one is honoring that. I'm a mba student and don't have that kind of cash! I've only had this SUV for 3 years. I bought it used, had only one owner before me, and it was under 20k miles. Sounds like gm's product is not reliable and they do not stand behind their product. I tried to buy an american product to put help our economy and this is the repayment for it! I'm going back to foreign cars, I will never purchase another gm built vehicle as long as I breath!.
Wave plate when out on vehicle. This has happened to hundreds of these 2008 vehicles. I was driving four children and vehicle completely stopped. I was not out of mileage warranty only have 70,000 but was out of year warranty.
In February of this year (2013) the transmission in our 2008 GMC Acadia failed while I was driving my two small children home from preschool. Thankfully I never lost control of the car although it was extremely frightening and a very dangerous experience to not be able to shift into another gear while in the middle of moving traffic on a busy road. I barely made it home, drove with my hazard lights on, shaking and counting my blessings that our car was not hit and we were not hurt. What makes it all the more upsetting is that gm is aware of this issue with 2008 Acadia models but yet has never done a recall on the defective transmissions in our cars. Gm is essentially telling it's customers that it does not care about their safety or well being. They allow us to continue to drive their cars even though they are aware of the potential danger involved when the transmission shuts down. I cannot afford another car for my family right now so every day I live in fear that this car will fail again and put us in danger. It is not the safe, reliable car I was led to believe it was when I purchased it for my family vehicle. GMC should be forced to recall these cars (2007/2008 GMC Acadia) and required to put in completely new transmissions.
The contact owns a 2008 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while parked the driver noticed smoke and flames emmiting from the engine compartment. The fire department was called to the scene and a report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an auto shop. The insurance company had the vehicle inspected but they were unable to determine the cause of the fire. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was destroyed. The approximate failure mileage was 19,000.
My friends and I left a store and was pulling out onto a busy route. Speed limit is posted as 45 mph. I was idling at the stop sign waiting for a vehicle to pass. When it did I pulled out into traffic. I gently pressed on the accelerator and that is when I felt the truck jerk and then the pedal was floored!!! I was not doing this!!!! I was in amongst the traffic, trying to Dodge others, and then I tried to turn my truck off. I couldn't do it. It was not allowing me to and the speed had increased dramatically!!! I reached down and was messing with the accelerator hoping to pull it up from the floor. The accelerator was completely pressed into the floor as if someone glued it there. I crossed over 3 lanes of traffic trying to Dodge vehicles and trying to prevent a crash. I finally managed to free the accelerator. It freaks me out when I drive now,.
I bought my GMC Acadia in February and have had it at the dealership I know 15+ times. Everything is wrong with it. It started off that it was the stability track and stability control censors, then it went to both rear wheel bearings replace, bypassing the wiring (because gm) told the dealership to bypass the factory wiring and build a new harness for the wiring, several other things wrong, and now the transmission!!!! what will happen next!!! so many people are having major issues with the Acadia. Not dependable nor safe for me nor my family!!!!!.
