general problems of the 2008 GMC Acadia - part 1

The traction control turns on and then the shifts don’t work and I can’t drive since there is no speed also the rpm and the gas the speed and the battery gages start flickering up and down then I turn off the truck and it continues to work fine but after 40 miles or so it does it all again.

Unknown 2008 GMC Acadia back lift starts to open and then shuts right back down. Try to raise it manually and it falls right back down. It can really hurt someone. Would like to know what causes it to do that and if there is a recall.

Airbag light on 24/7, abs malfunction traction control system turns off randomly, wiper blade fluid not spraying (front, rear) engine misfire on idle, clear/white smoke from hood and burning smell.

Well my back trunk doesnt worrk well I open it but it closes half way it almost closed on me and its done that more then 3 times and im not sure why its scary cause my child almost got hit with it not opening right.

Vehicle has a sunroof drainage issue. Water leaks in through the corners of the sunroof and spills into the dashboard and under the carpeting. The vehicle has suffered electrical damage, corrosion, and mold because of the sunroof drainage issue. I have seen forums with hundreds of other owners who have suffered the same exact sunroof drainage problem with their 2007-2008 GMC Acadias. GMC says my vehicle is not listed in the recall, but I find that laughable. There are way too many Acadia owners that have this exact issue for it not to be a problem with all Acadias.

Sunroof is clogged rain has gotten inside vehicle soaked up the floors the interior up by the sunroof. GMC made rhis midel horribly and they don't have enough people filing or just don't care. It messes up the electrical system. They need ro recall the sunroof. Recall electrical system along with it. Sunroof is clogged.

Liftgate malfunction: when rear liftgate is manually opened on vehicle, it continues to make a noise after it is completely opened. This noise sounds as though the liftgate is still in the process of opening. There is also an issue when closing the liftgate. Although it is properly closed, it will show a warning sign moments later in the car saying it is opened. When the car is put back in park to check, the liftgate is closed, but the latch has released. So the liftgate is able to be opened without pressing the button to open it. Sometimes it can take a few times of closing the liftgate for it to stay latched and properly closed. The automatic opening function of the liftgate does not work as well.

The service stability track warning will come on while driving. It will then make the SUV shut off. This is really terrifying since it happens while driving. After the SUV shuts off, you have to wait a couple minutes before you're able to restart. The last two months, the service airbag warning will come up on the screen out of no where. It will come on while driving and setting stationary. Water will pour out from the glove box while driving.

I have been having issues with my "service air bag" light coming on whenever the passenger side seatbelt is pulled to hard or even if I hit a bump in the road. This also occurs when the passenger makes the slightest of movement in the seat. It occurs both when the vehicle is stationary and while going down the road. It is starting to happen more and more as time goes on. It happened today just going to the top of my driveway which is less than a mile long and back to the house. Also, I have been having issues with my tailgate randomly falling when halfway open or fully open. The tailgate has almost caused injury to my husband, both of my boys and myself. The vehicle is always stationary when this issue occurs and does not happen every time the tailgate is opened.

I was driving the vehicle when all of a sudden it would not go into 2nd or another gear. The transmission was not shifting. I love the Acadia but the transmission seems to be an ongoing issue with this make and model. It definitely is a safety hazard. It left me stranded on the side of the road. Luckily I had a place to pull over. Was told the transmission needs to be replaced. This is an outrageous cost for something that GMC knows about.

My lift gate door fell and hit me in the head out of no where and my car is not on the list for the recall for that exact problem. My airbag indicator goes off all the time even if no one is in the front seat. My speedometer barely works, it goes completely around and I can't get it to reset. I took it to the shop just to be told it's a sensor that causes it along with the slow cranking but they didn't know which one it was because my car has 4.

Worse problem is the gear shifter, when is cool it will shift but after I am driving it I cant hardly get it to change gears or go into park. My lift gate keep coming down when open. Also my.

Water leakage inside of my vehicle.

Water leaks inside the car when it rains mostly on the front area coming from the roof an the side doors.

Transmission failed, transmission slipped out of gear, transmission stuck in first gear, gm approved a 2013 safety recall for this vehicle, the transmission failed in 2017, the transmission was repaired and the entire engine has been replaced twice. The transmission is failing again because it is a product defect that is dangerous. Gm has refused to repair or replace the vehicle and the autonation has refused to repair or replace the vehicle. Gm and autonation have sold a dangerous used car with a fraudulent intent. Gm and autonation have ratified the intentional fraud. The car needs to be replaced immediately because it is still dangerous to drive and the transmission is currently failing again.

Since I bought the truck the I get an on and off message to service the air bag. Also while I am driving the truck over heats and when I come tona stop and turn the engine off and completely remive the key. The engine stays on and water pump starts to buble as if the water was boiling and after about five minutes there is no water in the pump and when you add water the water get extremely hot. I have seen in other forums where all have had the same issue. I am extremely disappointed in the quality of the vehicle. I have four small children and don't feel safe however the truck is financed and I have no option.

Car rolls when in park. I have viewed hundreds of comments online of the same make/model/year doing the same thing.

The vehicle turns off abruptly while driving. The vehicle as turned off in a parked-idling position, rolling at five mph, and even between 60-70 mph. Most of the time when the car shuts down, you are not able to restart the car without removing the key out of the ignition and inserting it to the on position cycling that motion four to five times. I have researched and spoken to other owners with the same make, model, and year as I have and they are dealing with the same issue. I am certain I am not the only complaint regarding this issue. I am worried about the safety for my family and myself because as mentioned before, this happens at random. There should be some kind of recall for this issue, however there is not. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Had the vehicle in the garage cleaning it out. Hatch was up and doors were open. Vehicle was not running. I was in the back of the vehicle putting the 2 back seats down. I had 1 leg inside the vehicle and the other hanging out of the back. All of a sudden the back gate came crashing down with no warning onto my leg. I could not get out and had to yell for help for someone to life the lift gate off of my leg. I have not seen a doctor yet but I feel like I need to as my leg is swollen and purple.

The most recent heavy downpour of rain this past week resulted in water pouring in from my headliner!! down both visors and down seatbelt posts. This is an obvious problem that has occurred on the exact model vehicle and year but with different VIN numbers associated. I called gm and they stated it's on me to fix. It's the exact defect a huge recall was issued on several years ago, like I said for different VIN but same make, model, and year, and it involves the same new kits needing installed that were for that recall. Presently waiting for my appt at my local gm dealer to remedy this problem and not happy about the case I opened with gm corporation to basically be advised this morning �OH well. . . Wasn't for your particular VIN so you're out of pocket for this�. Not cool!!! please advise what can be done/issue a recall for this!!.

Transmission gone completely.

Bought 2008 Acadia love car but when it rains it leaks in headliner had drain tubes cleaned worked about a month needed to be done again called gm about a recall said they hadn't had any complaints which I see is not true but the problem with the drain tubes is the elbow what idiot would expect to have good drainage with a elbow connected to a small drain tube gm doesn't stand behind their products and needs someone with common sense to design such parts. If it doesn't work they should fix it these vehicles are high priced and cheaply made. Driving or parked still leaks.

I hear water swishing around in the ceiling, however nothing seems to be wet. The sunroof is always closed. Twenty minutes into the drive to work, the emergency brake light on the dash board came on while I was driving on the highway (even though the brake was not engaged). . . . The dash brake light and chime sound continued until I reached my destination. When I finally stopped and turn the car off and on. . . Both had stopped. After completing my work day, I started the car again and the emergency brake dash light came on again. . . The brake was not engaged. . . . I turned the car off and restarted. . . Then it went away. I still here water in the roof when I turn corners.

2nd time to dealer for water leak from sunroof (this time from sunroof that does not open). Soaking wet passenger floor, fuse box opened from water, water coming from side pillars. Diagnosis last time was tubes, this time window replaced and entire roof sealed. This is so dangerous, especially water running thru fuse box/electrical system. Common problem, TSB's and yet no recall by gm. Dealer refuses to honor TSB & request gm pay for repairs. $400. 00 just for labor. Reading all over the internet plus tsbs, water damage is common for 2008 Acadia and future vehicles. The government allowing gm to continue putting our lives at risk & not forcing a recall is ridiculous. I understand normal wear & tear but gm Acadia's are defective, all of my repairs have been due to defects!.

This car has leaked since the day I bought it. I have taken it to the dealership I bought it from multiple times. The last time they looked at it they told me that there was a leak but they could not find where it was. My amp has shorted out due to all the water and I can imagine what's next. I am so scared to drive my car because of what could go out next. I wish GMC would do something about all of our issues with the same water leak! I am getting pretty tired of getting rained on inside my car.

The engine stutters and jolts, traction control keeps kicking on and car is stalling right in the middle of the road.

I'm having transmission problems diagnosed by two different mechanics. I found found that GMC announced a technical service bulletin for this specific repair. However, I was told GMC might not cover the cost of repairs because the problem is "too new," so I have to continue to drive my car -- with the problem -- until it becomes severe enough for a proper code to come up on diagnostics. This makes me feel very unsafe and angry.

The hatchback won't stay up. My vehicle should be included in the hatchback falling recall.

Due to deacceleration the mechanic replaced the trottle body. Ater that the vehicle decellerates often driving down the street and seems to slip into neutral. Also will just die at times. Now they are saying a new transmission even though it was replaced 13 months ago. Codes p07756 p0797 stuck on p0963 p0969 p2728 road test by mechanic the vehicle seemed to take off in a higher gear and exhibited low poer. During continued driving the transmission slipped out of gear before finally engaging their diagnosis internal transmission failure recommend replace transmission.

Running hot.

Recently we had a lot of rain and I noticed it once before when it rains constantly water entered the inside of the car. Had the car checked everything seemed okay but on 2 October 2016 the rain was coming in the care through the airbags and when I turned the car off the engine kept running. The following morning no rain but the car wouldn't start and the key got stuck in the ignition. I find this to be costly when the battery not even a year old. Just need to have this issue resolve because putting my car in a garage on rainy days is not an option for me.

1) a transmission switch plate error - warranty repair (GMC never paid my hotel/rental car claim. On hwy with family. 2) transmission issue - paid close to $2000. I asked if this would lead to transmission failure; they told me no, car would be good to go. The person who helped me no longer works at the el paso dealership when I reported he tried to overcharge me. Driving on hwy in el paso with kids. 3) transmission - paid $4000+ for transmission (GMC claims not related to the previous repair); discussed with service dept if we should spend more money on the car. . . They told me the new transmission would work. (mileage was 125k) the transmission failed while moving from el paso to colorado springs. . . No safe place to stop. 4) 2 mos later (now) - claim the timing belt failed and rh tie rods need repair and they say I declined a repair. I never discussed this needed repair and the possibility of a $2600 repair following this $4000 repair. . . So if they mentioned it, they never said you have $6600 worth of work in front of you. I already was concerned about paying $4000 after paying $2000. It happened on highway. GMC is more than aware of these issues with their cars and they are leaving their customers to deal with it. I have a 2002 GMC envoy and never paid anything close in repairs. There are serious problems with this make and model. We are also a military family who travels quite a bit. We started getting errors on road trips and we even had the original warranty repair while we were out of town, causing us to be stranded on the side of the highway in the washington DC area when our car just stopped. GMC is showing a total disregard for its customers. They are aware of these issues and they are not taking any responsibility for them. They are putting their customers in physical danger and wreaking havoc on our finances. This is disgusting and unacceptable.

My car leaks all at the top of the car when it rains. The sunroof does not leak but around the windshield leaks, in the back seat by the lights it leaks and at the emergency break it leaks. My car gets flooded and the flooring is getting nasty and molded. It does not matter if you are moving or let it sit alone, when it rains light or hard the car floods on the inside. I purchased the car in February 2016 and it has leaked since I first got the car but only getting worse.

Takata recall I took my vehicle to have recall on power lift gate completed. (15240). Upon completion of recall, lift gate became inoperable. Dealer now wants me to pay $500. 00 to get it working again. Lift gate worked fine when vehicle was driven in for service. Please advise what action I can take.

The airbag on/off lights would both light up at the same time so you didn't know if it was functioning properly. The warning "service airbag" came on. This was while driving any speed, any type road, also while the car was in park. Key would not come out of ignition, the engine would turn off but electrical would still be working. Also the power saver mode kicked in and we had to have the vehicle jumped.
