Failure Date: 12/23/2015

I had a recall for my driver side, side impact air bag wire harness. The dealer in duluth mn (kolar) fixed it but light came on for check engine. Brought it back and they are telling me it is the pps sensor for the passenger airbag. There is a recall for this, but not on my Acadia. They want $600 plus labor to replace. Totaling around $950. Had another recall for the power lift gate, stating that the struts could possibly fail prematurely, causing the power lift gate to drop. As I was loading the back of the vehicle, the lift gate suddenly dropped on my head. I brought it to kolar in duluth mn and told them that the struts from the recall were shot and needed replacement. I picked the vehicle up after a day of them telling me that the recall had been successful. A week after I took the car home, the lift gate fell on my wife. I come to find out that kolar never replaced the struts, even after me talking to the mechanic and him assuring me that they would be changed out. It is now sitting at the dealer waiting for back ordered struts to come in to be installed.

My 2008 GMC Acadia leaks when it rains, the floor boards fill with water & water comes through the interior lights causing them to shorten, blink. The power windows got stuck wouldn't go down almost smashed my kids hand. The worse part driving on interstate at 65-70 traffic slows to 40 and your vehicle doesn't go almost causing the worse accident ever. Seems this wave plate, shift solenoid is a manufacturer defect especially since I was only a few months after initial purchase and the truck was returned to dealer for same issue so that means the transmission they replaced the bad one with was so bad or reached its time out mileage. This should be a recall if it happened shortly after purchase (purchased used) then it happens again with the replacement transmission and all the threads in have read every owner is experiencing this, someone will have bad accident possibly death. Does death have to occur for us to get better resolve and make GMC take care of this. Over $5,000 was tough to christmas time.

38 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/18/2015

I made a previous complaint filed here under NHTSA id number: 10765088. The local garber GMC dealership sealed the sunroof and cleaned the clogged hoses that drain water from the roof. They also replaced the passenger side airbag for a total of $600. They gave a guarantee that there would be no more leaks. On November 18 the car began leaking from the front passenger side airbag area and water poured from the roof onto the glove compartment when I made a full stop. Currently awaiting a return call from the service manager of GMC dealer. I have video of the problem. I was driving in the rain from one college campus location to another, in other words many stop and go and side streets at 30 mph or less. The car made squealing noises as well which happened last time too (September of this year).

39 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2015

Transmission started getting sluggish around 88, 000 miles. Vehicle wouldn't crank due to electrical stabilizer, now my sunroof is leaking. Dealership is going to charge me $275 dollar to unblock the sunroof drains what a rip off when this is the three time I have had the drains cleaned and the sunroof still leak. This has to be a GMC problem that they refuse to acknowledge. The transmission is still under the GMC warranty so thank god I don't have to pay out of pocket for that. The electrical modules seem to be okay for now but at any giving time the vehicle may stop working. GMC should own up to these problems and look out for their customers.

40 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/06/2015

Power liftgate does not work. Liftgate will not open on its own, and when I open it, it slams down. This could cause injury to me or my children.

41 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2015

Water enters the interior of the vehicle as the sunroof drains continue to clog up and water falls on driver and driver side electrical fuses.

42 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2015

Bought vehicle with only 23k miles on it, transmission started acting up within 6 months of driving it, taken to a dealer, said nothing wrong, another year later got worse, took it in to a different dealer, nothing wrong, 6 months later took it in before going on vacation, nothing wrong, but had problems while on vacation, 6 months later, 1,500 miles away from home on vacation, driving down a 75 mile an hour speed limit divided highway, transmission went out with no warning, no dash warning, took in to a transmission dealer (since we couldn't get into a dealer) and said we wouldn't make it home the way it was. 5 grand later and a mess of a vacation later we were on our way home. Less than 3 months later, tighten gas cap light on dash, check tire pressure light on and check engine light on. Found out online that this model and make and year had numerous issues with transmission, don't understand how there was no recall and how gm got away with it. Oh, and we were under extended warranty in the beginning where they said nothing wrong, and as soon as warranty was expired, boom! transmission had to be fixed! transmission dealer said the damage was from a cheap 15. 00 part that caused us to have to spend 5 grand while on vacation. We have all shop paperwork showing the paper trail what we tried to get fixed.

43 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2015

The vehicle described in this complaint has a leak on the drivers side sun roof. Took vehicle to dealer to have problem resolved. Tech indicated that water was draining slowly. Tech indicated that drains were blown out and water was draining out in a faster rate. As of today's rain storm, sun roof continues to leak . Leak occurs when vehicle is sitting still and during movement.

44 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2015

The liftgate on my 2008 GMC Acadia does not stay up and keeps coming down on our heads and body. . I saw that there were recalls on this item but not on my VIN?? this is a major safety issue.

45 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/17/2015

Have to replace evaporator core because of leaks. Seeing lots of complaints about this issue on message boards.

46 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2015

There are many recalls on this vehicle. Did dealership says that they fix them and yet they're still not resolved. These issues include the electrical system, the airbag system, the stabilitrak system, issues with water leaking through the sunroof, l]]as well as water leaking into the interior lights. There are also issues with liftgate working correctly. All of these are issues with my Acadia. I need to know what to do to handle this properly. This car has turned into a death trap. I have been trying for years to get these things resolved. I have got to run around the entire time.

47 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2015

I backed into a parking spot and put it in park. The car seemed like it lost a little bit of power and when I turned the key off the engine turned over again and the car was running even though the key was in the off position. When I turned it over the car lost power and wouldn't start and my key was stuck in the ignition. After 15 minutes or so it started up again with no problem. Later when I drove it it did it again and now it starts when I stick the key in the ignition without turning it over and my car stalls out and loses power and I lose power steering.

48 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2015

Hvac blower motor submerged in water. Causing motor to fail. No defrost. Effecting field of vision. No sunroof on this model Acadia. Seems to be from condensation. Also concerned about electrical failure.

49 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2015

My 2008 GMC Acadia would not start and the key could not be removed from the ignition. The vehicle was towed to a GMC dealership. The mechanic diagnosed that the sunroof was leaking into the headliner and going straight to the fuse block. I had to replace the fuse block, battery as well as seal the leak around the sunroof and cowl. GMC refused to pay anything towards this repair and will not issue a recall. I spent $1,200 just to fix this due to GMC's poor craftsmanship. Mileage of car is 104,00.

50 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2015

This vehicle leaks through the sunroof and it goes all around the interior of the vehicle. Since it leaks inside I'm afraid it is going to reach the electrical components of the vehicle. It also leaks around where the battery is at an it can cause a shortage. Water also falls in through all the way to the carpet where the driver and passenger side, I don't know if the rear rows are affected. This makes the car have a ugly smell and sometimes I can't even breathe in my own car-- it smells extremely humid and horrible. The water that leaks in also leaves nasty marks around the interior roof of the car that really makes me feel depressed as soon as I open my door and see it. This problem really concerns me and I've also see multiple reviews of people with the same vehicle that have this problem. I can't drive my car in the rain or take it through the car wash without water leaking inside, and I hope one day it doesn't cause a fire in the electrical components.

51 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2014

We don't even have 50,000 miles on our Acadia and the transmission went out. The dealership is quoting us $4,200 to fix it. This is a well-known issue with Acadias yet gm has not placed a recall. This should not be happening on a vehicle with only 50,000! what a hardship:( we have done everything right with this vehicle since it was new, all regular maintenance and keeping up on the recalls.

52 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2014

The transmission went out and needed to be rebuilt. $3300. This is the second transmission we have replaced - we did our other 2008 Acadia 2 years ago. This is a very well known issue and there needs to be a recall!!.

53 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2014

It started as a very rare incident. When we heard about the heavy key chain problem we took everything off our fobs but two keys. When the key was turned, the ignition would make a strange clicking noise and all of the electronics would turn off. The key would have to be removed, reinserted, and the car started before everything could be reset. On one other occasion besides it's final meltdown did it refuse to release the key and run the battery down. Last week, on 12/10/14, I drove thee car and it acted up 3 times. We decided it was time to put it in the shop. It opened with the fob that night but refused to re-lock 2 hours later - everything dead. New battery so shouldn't be dead. Tried to start - ate key and refused to release until late next day after trickle charge put to it. Since then - all electronics work now and then but car will not start. Warranty ran out 2 days ago. Sucks!!!.

54 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2014

During acceleration the vehicle vibrates when going between 35 and 45 mph. Was not able to reproduce issue at dealership last fall, but is now getting much worse. Happens almost everytime the vehicle accelerates.

55 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2014

In the last few months we have been having problems with different service lights coming on multiple times and one time while driving down highway the computer engine revved up and then slowed the vehicle to minimal speed until later shutting off car reset the vehicle. Service stabiltrak, abs, engine light, traction control light and air bag light. Some times we can hear engine noise while idleing and cruise control does not work at times. This car only has approximately 72,255 miles as of 09/2/14 when taken to get checked for issues. After checking serviceman recommended full timing chain overhaul and replacement of throttle body for an estimated cost of $3,727. 85. After looking online regarding these issues we found many complaints regarding timing chain but no recalls on 2008 model. 2007 models I saw had extended warranty for timing chain but not 2008 models. This is our only family vehicle which our three children are riding in daily and making payments now looking at large repairs we can not afford. Please tell me why there are extended warranty for timing chain on 2007 but not 2008 when they are having the same issues? if this is not resolved we will never buy chevy or GMC again.

56 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2014

While on vacation the weekend of August 15-17, our vehicle's check engine light came on. We took it to the garage on 8-26-14. After 2 1/2 days of diagnosing the vehicle, the dealership advised us we had 2 bent rods in cylinder 3 and 4. We contacted gm to open a case study. The dealership called us and asked us what we were looking for as a resolution. We felt that with only 43,000 miles on it, our vehicle should not be having such drastic engine issues. Furthermore, the engine/timing cover was already replaced at 23,118 miles. The dealership asked us to verify that the vehicle had no flood history, get details of the warranty provided by the dealer from whom we purchased it, and provide maintenance records. We did that. The dealership first told us they would give us $1,000 off a new vehicle (really?). We said we still had a loan and payment. They advised us they would be able to come close to our current payment. When we spoke with them next, they advised that gm would not be providing any assistance and that they think now it is just a valve issue. How can you go from 2 bent rods to a valve issue? we told the dealership to put the vehicle back together; we were coming to get it. We towed it home. We contacted gm again to let them know what a bad experience we had with a dealership that kept changing their story about what gm was going to do to help and what our problems were. They advised us we could take it to another garage and have all the diagnostics done again (at our expense). Then the dealership could contact them to see if there is any cost assistance available. They said that since we didn't buy our vehicle from a gm dealer and didn't service it at a gm dealer (we never had an issue prior to this), we wouldn't score high for cost assistance from gm. We aren't the only one in this situation according to research. Help!.

57 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2014

The vehicle refused to shift out of first gear and the check engine light became illuminated upon pulling out into the roadway. At 25 miles per hour the rpms were 4000 and it just would not shift. We pulled over, called for help and were stranded on the side of the road with two small children. We were hours away from home, and had to call family from hundreds of miles away to come help. The vehicle after being turned off and sitting for a while did then return to normal operation when restarted. Vehicle was driven home and two days later the very same problem recurred. Going to trade in this pos before someone gets hurt.

58 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2014

I'm logging these issue as I have now come to realize that the issues we have had with our 2008 GMC Acadia are very widespread among owners. Very early on in the life of the vehicle approx oct 2008 we began seeing small amounts of water inside the cabin. Water would drip along the windshield occasionally, no action was taken as it was not consistent or so we thought. On multiple occasions my wife would complain that the vehicle would "cutoff" or "die" generally at slow speed in areas such a parking lots when turning, however the dealer was unable to re-create the issue so no repairs were made. One day this summer (2014) my wife was unable to start the vehicle, it just would not crank. On taking it to the dealer the vehicle was diagnosed with a corroded battery cable that ran from the middle of the vehicle to the starter in the engine bay. Cost to repair $1,200. In approximately June 2014 the vehicle began experiencing a slight rollback when placed into drive. At first we didn't think it was an issue as it didn't get worse with time. However by October 2014 we got a check engine light, diagnosis transmission failure cost to repair $4,890 after a $200 discount.

59 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2014

Transmission needs to be completely replaced. Most of my mileage is in-town driving and have under 64,000 miles. I have heard of many GMC Acadia's 2007-2009 having transmission problems.

60 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2014

Back hatch on vehicle will not open. Replaced fuse and still will not open, there is not a saftey open included with this vehicle therefore the door cannot be opened from the inside. The full vehicle is not able to be used and is unsafe for third row riders in the event of an accident.

61 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2014

I have brought my vehicle in before our trip to massachussetts to the gm dealer in hastings, mn as the stop engine now/fuel pressure light kept coming on all the time. They told me that it is probably just a sensor issue. So I drove my car. In the last few weeks more lights came on such as trataction control is out, stabilization needs attention, breaks need attention, and check engine. So they figured just more sensor issue. 9/9/14 I was backing out a parking spot with a friend of mine and my power steering was disabled and almost caused and accident when the break service light came on. Finially my husband took it back to the dealer to find that now I need a new timing chain and updates $2045, transmission control module w/selenoid $1226. 58, and master cylinder and brake booster $690. 00. They should have caught this before as gm is well aware of the issues according to complaints online and the service man who told me he sees this a lot. I noticed there is a recall on 2007 and 2009 for several of these issues. Had I not have my husband bring this in again I am sure there would have been a severe accident involving me and possibly my children. Gm offered to pay for half the services but honestly they know this is an issue with their model. To tell people nothing is wrong, nothing is wrong and bamb everything wrong at just 120k miles seems fishy. I want this fixed before someone gets hurt. I have a friend with the same model with many of the same issues. This is not fair to leave consumers in the dark considering this is vehicle mostly used by families.

62 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2014

Water leaking into the floorboard saturating the carpet.

63 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2014

This car is a leaking vehicle. After a heavy rain I got in my car and water just came flooding into my vehicle. I had it repaired at the dealership where I purchase the car. Shortly after my stereo system went out I had it checked out and was told it was my amp. But because of the estimated repair cost I chose not to have it repaired. Just recently my son pulled the device inside the door and all of f them were full of water. It's like all my seals are leaking on my vehicle. From the front to the back. I'm reporting this because I feel like I may not be the only person with this problem. Please respond.

64 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2014

The transmission had been hard shifting from 3rd to 4th for about 200 miles. At 25 mph while turning through a very busy intersection the engine revved shifted through what felt like every gear, the car lost acceleration power; going from 25 mph to 10mph. Parked the vehicle. Restarted to find that only first and second gears worked and the check engine light illuminated. During the 200 previous miles of concern; I had heard a faint whine during acceleration. The first time any trouble occurred the vehicle was stopped behind a school bus loading and while I applied the brake (still completely stopped) the car lurched forward. I immediately shifted to neutral, not wanting to rear end the school bus.

65 Equipment problem

67 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2014

Slowed my vehicle approaching a drive thru. I slowly began to excellerate, gas pedal went to the floor. My left foot was dangling. Vehicle's rpms and engine was roaring at maxium speed. I then placed both feet on my brakes to no avail! knew I was going to crash with no way to stop! I braced my self for the impact. My gas pedal stuck and my anti lock brakes failed. The vehicle I hit was a truck with its tail gate down. The impact pushed up his tail gate. My hood, fenders, radiator and fan belt were crushed. My vehicles bumper was not involved or damaged. Over $6,000. 00 in damages to my vehicle and the sensors failed to register the accident, the gas pedal or the brake problem! after contacting gm corporate, they denied my claim! it was 8:45 a. M on a clear day. I am now frightened to drive my vehicle near schools or crowded places. I purchased this vehicle brand new and maintain it exclusively through our local gm dealership. I have all supporting documentation of repairs and maintenance.

68 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2014

While driving car bucked and shifted irregularly, transmision slipped, no power, no reverse.

69 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2013

So the window switches don"t work, when I'm trying to open the window it will open but then it won't close back, the steering wheel makes squiking noises and most important the most costly thing to repair was the transmission. We purchased the car used with 53. 000 miles on and after driving another 20. 000 miles the transmission broke I had to pay out of my packet about 4. 000 dollars for the repair I have two small children and when it comes for safety im not sure if we should keep the vehicle. When I'm reading all those recall issues I'm getting worried about my kids safety.

70 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/27/2013

My 2008 Acadia transmission failed as I exited a highway (70 mph) and was going up the exit ramp. It began bucking like a horse. Once I pulled over and parked, I could not go in reverse. The car had to be towed and a new transmission had to be put in it after only 56k miles. Also have had the sunroof / moon roof trays overflow because the drainage tubes are not large enough to drain all the water from the trays. The dealership stated it was a poor design and nothing could be done to replace it. Now water has entered my vehicle causing the electrical box to become wet causing the horn to blow randomly and the car to continue running after turning it off and removing the key.
