My car is saying it’s not in park when it is in park.
When I put my car in park and try to turn it off, the dash shows an error message "shift to park". The car will either not turn off the ignition or allow me to leave the vehicle or lock/unlock the doors. It alarms incessently--even when trying to move the shifter around. Takes several times of restarting and shifting to get it to clear so I can put it into park and exit the vehicle. Local dealer is charging me over $2000 to repair the transmission control shifter assembly; bcm low signal; in-line shifter wire harness jumper--exactly one month after my warranty expired. It's a known Acadia (and other gm vehicle) issue--per several bulletins--na-19-206 as an example.
When I park my car and go to turn it off, it says "shift to park". The dash indicates that it is in park and it will not allow me to turn the ignition off or lock the doors.
Shift to park will not work. Sometime after 20 try’s it may work once but I have to disconnect the battery to turn off the car. I’m beside myself and cannot keep doing this. This is a real safety problem. I have children in my car and gm says there is no recall and I am expected to pay 800. 00 and then it is not guaranteed.

After raining door locks on every door will not work. Won't lock or unlock, manually or by using the key fob. Something seems to be getting damp and shorting out . After a day or 2 the locks will work just fine when everything dries out. Seems to be a safety issue if I can't exit the vehicle. The rear hatch is the only door that works when this happens. What is the problem and the solution? this happens every time it rains. Had it to the dealer and they couldn't find the problem.
My vehicle just hit 39k miles, it has all of a sudden started giving me a shift into park warning. The sensor is not registering that its in park and will not let you turn car off. There is a recall on the 2017-2018 vehicles for this issue and but many report an issue with the 2019, when I called GMC they would not fix. How to we go about having this included in the recalls?.

After noticing my ac was not cooling, I began receiving a “steering assist is reduced drive with care” notice every time my car was started. My car is more difficult to steer. It has been assessed by a certified mechanic and found that the coolant temperature probe is malfunctioning and the ecm will either need to be fixed or replaced. Due to malfunctioning power steering, I do not feel safe driving this vehicle until it is fixed.
The touch display screen. It has started to constantly go through every setting on the car while driving. I’ve tried turning the screen off. It works for a few minutes and then turns itself back on. It will change radio stations. It will make phone calls if a phone is detected. It is a constant distraction while driving GMC is obviously aware of the problem. You can call a service center. They will tell you that it happens all the time and that the part will cost you around 800$ not including service charges. With how many people depend on display screens in today’s technological ways. It’s only a matter of time before a serious accident occurs from this, if not already that hasn’t been reported. Also this affects more than just my vehicle. It’s across most of GMC models. Several public forums related to this issue.

My 2019 GMC Acadia started having the known "shift to park" issue that is affecting these make/models. This is a known issue and GMC has not issued a recall for it, nor are they covering any cost of repair. When the car is put into park, the screen displays a message that says "shift to park". This results in being unable to turn the car off. The vehicle will not lock either when the message is displayed. On several occasions, the car would not start because of this issue. We took it to the dealer and they are fixing the issue for just over $500 usd.
There have been no reported recalls yet my vehicle is on it's third battery since purchasing it? how is this possible?.
For a few months I intermittently get an engine light on, the temperature gauge goes to zero, the ac stops working, and an error that driver assist in unavailable. This will happen for a fee days and return to notmal where everything is fine. This happens on and off again. I google searched this and it is a huge problem with GMC Acadias. I used an obdii scanner and get a p0128 coolant error when this happens even though the temperature is fine. I just recently went over the new car warranty and GMC will not tell me if this is covered or not.
The vehicle’s steering assist reduced, drive with care notification came on. The vehicle lost steering assist control and made it very difficult to steer. The slightest move causes a major shift in the intended direction. This is very dangerous.
When I put my car in park and try to turn my vehicle off I get an error message saying “shift to park. ” the problem is the car is already in park and I am unable to turn the off. I usually have to start the car back and drive back and forth before the car actually recognizes it is in park. Im concerned for my safety.
The vehicle would continuously not register as being in park.
Initial battery died completely when vehicle was 2 years old (17 months ago). This week got a steering assist drive with care message and everything pointed to codes signaling low voltage. Battery tested with a bad cell. Gm will not cover the cost to replace a battery when not one but two have gone bad well before the middle of their earful lives. Gm claims there is nothing electrical drawing from the battery causing both the go array. Bad customer service on gm’s part. Logically this issue should be covered as it is not a typical maintenance replacement. It’s something causing two batteries to go bad!.
Gear shift notification problem. Unable to turn engine off after receiving "shift to park" message and the gear shift is visibly in the "park" position. In addition, the doors would not lock. My wife was forced to stay in the unlocked running car in a store parking lot for 25 minutes, until the car just "turned off" on its own. Unsafe for a woman (or anyone) to have to do at 10:30pm. This puts drivers in a really vulnerable position. Vehicle taken to dealer Jan 30, 2023. Was told they were familiar with the problem.
Vehicles shift lever doesn't always go into "park" and when the 'stop' switch is pushed the instrument panel displays notice to "shift to park" even though the operator has already done so. The audio still plays after the vehicle door is opened. So I assume the vehicle is still using battery power.

The car begin to not want accelerate and I had to put on the hazard lights on a drive very slow home. In November 2022, I started getting a dashboard "shift to park" on my 2019 Acadia after I had parked and shut the vehicle off. At the time I took it into service to have it looked at/repaired, they told me there would probably be a recall on this issue,as it seemed to be a frequent problem, and I would get a refund for the repair. That recall never happened, and now my car is once again displaying the same issue. The dealership will not cover the repair, and I will be responsible, as it is out of their 2 year warranty window. I can't just ignore this issue and keep driving, as with the "shift to park" display, there is a constant alarm that doesn't stop unless the park switch recognizes the car is in park, even when it is shut off. I feel this issue needs to be placed under a recall, and I should not have to pay again for it to be repaired.

2019 GMC Acadia started producing error code of “shift to park” around 32,000 miles. This malfunction is directly connected to a know a non manufacturer flaw in the shifting mechanism shifter switch an faulty grounding. The error code “shift to park” will not allow you to properly shut off or start the car causing potential safety threats to individuals involved. This error code is a know issue with the shifting mechanism GMC has been putting in Acadia models for the last 5 plus years with no proper resolution to correct potential hazard for consumers. Recall bulletins are in place for some 2009-2017 models currently, but only a temporary fix. Consumers are expected to pay for repairs for a manufacturer defective part that doesn’t meet NHTSA requirements. I would like to add the 2019 models to this list. Vehicle was inspected by GMC dealership and master mechanic.
