When the vehicle is in reverse and you are backing the emergency brake suddenly comes on practically giving you whiplash. This happens randomly and without any obstruction or reason for the emergency brake to come on. It has happened many times. This morning it slammed the emergency brake on 4 times in a row I didn't think I was going to be able to back up as it kept kicking the emergency brake on. Based on what I have seen on the internet many 2024 GMC Acadia owners are having similar problems. Gm needs to fix this!.

I was driving and making a left turn at a traffic light when all of a sudden, every light lit up on my dashboard. Then the dashboard turned completely black along with the radio screen. When the dashboard went black, I tried to stop by hitting the brakes to pull over. The brake pedal went all the way to the floor, and I had zero brakes. I was able to coast to a dirt shoulder where the vehicle stopped due to friction and gravity. The brakes never worked to aid in stopping the motion of my vehicle. I had my vehicle towed immediately to the dealership where I bought it.
The contact owns a 2017 GMC Acadia. The contact stated while coming to a stop, the contact heard a loud screeching sound when the brake pedal was depressed. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that the brake pedal was very loose, and the brake pedal was going to the floorboard while depressed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 66,000.

This 2024 GMC Acadia will not back up safely on a rainy day. When moving backward, when it raining the emergency braking continually engage, approximately every two feet. I took it to gm dealer service center, it did the same with them. However, they can't correct the problem and gm does not have a fix. Also others vehicle like this one are experiencing the same problem. This has been an ongoing problem since July 5, 2024 in rainy weather. I called gm customer service and have gotten no result. I don't know what to do. Can you all help us (please). Thank you all so very much.
The contact owns a 2024 GMC Acadia. The contact stated there was an abnormal squeaking sound coming from the vehicle while depressing the brake pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and the brake pads were replaced; however, the failure returned several days later after the repair. In addition, the contact stated that transmission fluid was leaking from the vehicle. The contact also stated that both taillights had failed to operate as needed and the message "check left rear turn lamp" and "check right rear turn lamp" messages were displayed a day apart. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the mechanic confirmed that there was a transmission fluid leak due to defective bolts. The dealer also replaced the rear taillights. The contact was also informed that there were no issues with the brakes, even though there was a noise coming from the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired and remained with the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 1,000.
I am filing a complaint about my 2024 GMC Acadia at4, leased brand new from frank's GMC in August 2024, now with a little over 8,000 miles. The brake pads are worn to 35% life, far below the expected 30,000-70,000 miles, with loud squealing, fluid leakage, and odors. This poses a severe safety risk to my family and others, as compromised brakes could fail. In October 2024, before my 3,000-mile oil change, I reported brake concerns to frank’s GMC service manager, javier, who advised waiting. After the November 2024 oil change and tire rotation, only three months after obtaining my vehicle, javier claimed no issues, despite my prior warnings. The problems worsened, with squealing, leakage, and odors persisting. My March 19, 2025, service appointment was delayed, calls ignored, and follow-ups never occurred. Sales manager khaled stated that owner frank confronted javier about avoiding service issues, yet no action was taken. I contacted ten GMC service departments in PA, CT, and MD; they reported similar at4 brake issues, some citing total brake failure. I spoke with gm corporate supervisors, who referred me back to the dealer. Frank’s GMC inspections overlooked my concerns. A local police department safety inspection unit confirmed the issues, but no manufacturer or insurance inspections occurred. The vehicle is available for inspection. I urge NHTSA to investigate this premature brake failure and ensure the 2024 Acadia at4’s safety. The email screenshot I included was sent in April. I contacted the same GMC dealerships that previously reported no issues to check for updates, and they confirmed a change. All of them now report the same problem with brake pads and/or brake failure. This issue is covered under warranty and should be replaced without issue, but dealers are not complying. If overlooked, this could become a national concern.
Last week I parked in a large public parking lot and attempted to turn my car off. I received a notification in my dash to “shift to park” even though my car was already in park. I was unable to turn the car off or lock the doors. I ended up having to leave. I have now gotten this message six times in the past week. It can take up to twenty minutes to get the car to turn off so I can exit. Yesterday upon returning to the car I showed an error message as soon as I started it that the parking brake needed service, stabilitrak is disabled and steering assist is disabled- drive with care. As I tried to exit the parking lot, I found it almost impossible to turn the steering week. I pulled over and restarted the car, releasing the steering wheel so I could get home. This morning, all of the service lights were on and periodic warnings flashed on my dash throughout my drive to work. I contacted the dealership and was told that there is a recall for this exact issue on the 2015-2018 models of my car. I have a 2019. This is certainly a dangerous issue that should be proactively fixed and is clearly still present in years that are not being included in the recall. I was told my car was one month past its warranty and told I could pay 250$ for the issue to be assessed and then they could quote me on a fix. The dealership acknowledged that this is an issue they regularly fix.

All of this has been going on for a while but it's gotten to the point of dangerous. The shift to park keeps coming on preventing me from shutting the vehicle off even though it's, in fact, in park. Then, "steering assist reduced drive with care" keeps coming on. This will come on and off. Preventing the engine from heating up like it needs to be. Then the transmission keeps slipping. Was nearly rear-ended on the highway with my child in the car when it decided to start driving really rough and wouldn't allow me to shift to the next gear. This is also an ongoing issue. Another time I was almost hit in the side when this randomly happened on crossing the highway. This is absolutely absurd! I have had much older vehicles without all these issues with many many more miles! I can't count the amount of times this has caused us serious hazards not to mention almost costing me my job! interestingly enough, the same year/make/model has been recalled for the exact same issues yet for whatever reason GMC says my model "was not affected by the recall". Funny how it's having the exact same issues as the ones on the recall list! GMC needs to fix this before they cause people to die! I'm a healthcare worker and this is disgusting!.

The car has parking brake on unable to disable. Have to put in drive force the system to move. Same with reversing the car. Air bags not working. Seat belt restraint on when we are wearing them. Left turn signal failure. Steering limited caution sign on. Esc sign on. Engine light on. Transmission unable to shift soon light on. Traction lights on. Abs brake light on. Temp says -40 degree when 30 out. I’m finding this unsafe to drive. Call GMC that told me to start on star diagnostic. Pull up at least 4 codes and today the transmission indicators came on. Not sure what to do. The car has low miles. But I have stopped driving as of today due to break down or serious malfunction while driving.

Vehicle will apply breaks abruptly on its own whenever it thinks a vehicle is too close. Was in traffic and it kept slamming on the breaks as I would try and move forward. Will slam on the breaks whenever I attempt to just slow down during the course of driving. Was on the highway and anytime I pressed the breaks to slow down, automatic breaks would slam down breaks on its own. Drove vehicle right to dealership as the was a major safety issue for me especially with my baby in the car.
Vehicle does not recognize that it's in park. Once parked a warning comes on telling you to shift to park. The vehicle does not completely shut off because it does not believe that it is in park.
1. - found water in the doors electrical connectors, the radio, alerts, blinkers sounds stops working and makes an electric short circuit sound. Informatic radio systems works on and off. 2. - break pedal with unusual play this make the stop lights turn on all the time and triggers the stabilitytrack system fails the car it’s like speeding up and down. 3. - the previous problem play in the break pedal triggers a transmission malfunction does not change gears and makes the engine loose power preventing a major damages but at same time it’s very dangerous while driving because we never know when it will happen the failure.

Traveling at interstate speeds the vehicle had an short in the body control module due to the hvac drain leaking into the vehicle. The vehicle displayed a series of alarms brake, steering, and shutoff. We had no power, steering, brakes, or lights. The issue was discovered by dave sinclair dealership. I have the shift to park error where my car is not recognizing that it is in park and will not shut off. I have been held hostage inside my car, late for work, etc because my car will not shut off because it is not registering that it’s in park. Also, my breaks are unbareably loud with whatever switch they made to the “new” brake material.
The rear brake lights get stuck on causing the traction control and the stabilitrak to turn off and flash the warning on the dash. This vehicle has been to two different dealerships to fix the issues and nothing has worked. The brake pedal sensor has been replaced a couple times. The brake pedal assembly has been replaced. This is a safety concern due to other drivers thinking my brake lights are on constantly and not being able to see when I’m actually slowing down.
I put the car in park and the push button start would not let me turn off my car. I sat in the parking lot almost 30 min, putting my car in park, then drive, then park for my car to recognize its actually in park to turn off. I started getting this error on the start and stop at lights. . . It never turned off during the start and stop but fearing my life or my families life. . . . I took it to my local GMC dealership and the manager from the service department said this is a common issue with this model, he has repaired hundreds of them. His words. This is a safety issue. . . . I am shocked this has not been recalled. The lack of urgency to get this fixed is very concerning. It costs my $708. 92 to fix this issue. I 100% think I am owed this money due to something that should 100% be recalled. I found an open class action lawsuit that was confirmed by the dealership to be the exact same issue I had. Https://topclassactions. Com/lawsuit-settlements/consumer-products/auto-news/GMC-class-action-alleges-acadia-shift-to-park-defect/.
While driving the vehicle goes into automatic braking. It has stopped me while I'm driving or it will make a loud scrubbing noise as if I've hit the brakes quickly. It has happened over 15 or more times. I've taken to dealership and they are not very responsive to check into the issue I am having. It is a danger to me if I am on the interstate with vehicles traveling at a high rate of speed.
4-11-22 wife and I drove from our house to the corner intersection. She put the breaks on and the pedal went to the floor and the car drifted into the intersection, across the street to a parkin lot and then we costed back to our house and had it towed to the local GMC dealership. Asked for meeting with district service manager as I had paid to have vehicle fixed for my use. 5-3 and 4-22 customer service in mi agreed that it was a safety issue but out of warranty for brakes. Ok for brakes to go due to wear. 5-16-22 gave district service manager (pie 0458 dated 3-22-18) which reads: "brake pedal goes to floor with no external sign of a leak" gm knew. District manager helped financially. If we had been in a car crash and died it would have been labeled we ran a stop sigh not that gm willingly put a possible death trap into the publics hands. Sending this because others may have been misdiagnosed concerning a crash. A pie was issued but no bulletin was issued.
Taken from service report; customer states brake pedal some times sinks to the floor and brake fluid on driveway. Tech performed brake fluid check and found that the brake fluid leak is coming from the left front and right front caliper hose, caliper hose has rub marking, making contact with cv boot. Tech replaced the left and right front brake caliper hoses and performed brake fluid fill and bleed, rechecked the operation of the brakes-brakes are working as design also on service report: left front cv axle leaking, left front outer cv axle boot is torn, replaced the c axle assembly. Not on the report is that the service manager informed me that I should not have driven the vehicle in but had it towed in. Service performed under warranty at linus Cadillac Buick GMC, vero beach, FL.
My car would not shift into park. The indicator in the center console would say that it was in park, but when I would shut it car off I would get a warning on the dash that said that I needed to shit to park. I started chocking the tires when I parked out of fear of the car rolling away or run over somebody. My wife would not always chock the tires. I took the car to the dealer today and they confirmed my issue. The dealer replaced a part on the transmission. The dealer has my old part. It cost me over $400. 00 to repair. The dealer and manufacturer are aware of similar circumstances with this model. I started having issues two months ago without warning and the problem got steadily got worse. The car has 43300 miles on it. I have owned it since new. It has never been in any accidents.
The air bags light came on with no reason truck never being in a crash, the abs and the off road light is on too, the break lights are on while you don't step on the pedal and they go off when you step on it. . .

As I was stopped in line behind a car at the atm, my foot slipped from the brake, I quickly placed it back only to find that I ended up going forward. I quickly moved my foot more to the left for the brake only to end up going forward even faster hitting the car in front of me. I then put my left foot firmly on the brake. Now with both feet on the brake the car is climbing up the car in front of me and not braking. Finally, I put it in park and cut the engine. The whole front end of my car is crushed. Now 5 days earlier my husband had a similar incident when he was parking the car and thankfully only hitting the curb. Looking at the brake pedal you will find that there is a rubber edge hanging down on the right side. If your foot slips below it while crossing from the accelerator going right to left, you will not hit the brake but will continue to press the accelerator. In fact, if you raise your foot upward, you will only raise the brake. The only way to get to the brake is to get out from under it by going toward the accelerator and then back to the left. This action does not work in an emergency! I believe this rubber edge is too large is a safety hazard. We are still in the process of assessment by insurance, body shop and GMC.
The contact owns a 2021 GMC Acadia. The contact stated while reversing out her parking space, the contact heard a squeaking sound coming from the brakes. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the brakes were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The dealer was contacted and stated that there was an upcoming recall and to wait for the recall. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle needed to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 26,000.
GMC Acadia keeps flashing the lamp that says to !shift to park, when the car is in park and will not turn off. Does not go off when I turn the car off and does not go off when I reshift the car to park. It takes several trys of putting it back in park then goes off, now it does this every time I park and turn the car off. I'm not the only one with this issue. Its been going on for over week now 38k-ish miles.
The abs system indicated a problem. When I took it into the dealership, they told me the abs was bad and needed to be replaced.
My 2019 GMC Acadia is now undergoing the same repair for at least the second time. This is the common issue known as the shift-to-park issue. You can read about it here - [xxx] below are the commonly affected years: 2017 – Acadia 2018 – Acadia 2019 – several models (I own a 2019 GMC Acadia) 2020 – several models 2021 – Acadia and traverse despite falling into the year, make, model and issue - when I look up my VIN - no recall or warranty information is available, saying that my vehicle is not affected by this issue. However, this is now the 2nd (maybe 3rd) time I am having to come out of pocket to have this issue repaired. It originally happened in July of 2022 with around 40-44k miles on the vehicle. It is now happening again may of 2025 with around 72k miles on the vehicle. If I search further back, I imagine the first owner may have had the same work done too. Clearly this vehicle is affected by the issue buy according to my VIN it is not. Gm (general motors) told me that they offer no sort of help or reimbursement unless my VIN is associated with the issue. Can you guys please either add my VIN or extend out the warranty / recalls to all - because this is absurd. My car doesn't recognize that it is in park and stays on, preventing me from shutting down the vehicle / engine. Asking me to "shift-to-park" information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Several times the automatic emergency braking (aeb) was activated unnecessarily. Twice were at a 4-way stop. I was turning left with a stationary car (#1) across the intersection waiting to proceed next. As I got part of the way through the turn, the aeb reacked to the car (#1) and engaged. Slowing my car and almost brought it to a full stop in the middle of the intersection. I now drive the car with aeb disabled.
My emergency parking brake keeps engaging on its own, as I come to a stop, jeeking me forward. I never even put it in park, but it just engages the parking brake in a forceful manner. At a couple different times, while going at about 40 mph, the car starting shaking terribly, slowing the vehicle. The check engine light came on as well as both parking brake lights on the dash (the indicator light saying the parking brake was on and the indicator light saying there was a problem with the brakes). It felt light the vehicle had engaged the parking brake with I was driving and was dragging the parking brake. I have been having problems with the brakes with the vehicle and have taken it to the dealership a few times for this issue. They only kept it overnight and told me there was nothing they could do because it didn't happen while they had it. I have a fractured back and am disabled, and this issues actually hurts me when it does it.
