2 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2012 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 01/14/2021

When it is parked and idling it sounds like it wants to stall. When I am driving it it shifts hard and the transmission starts slipping. I took it to a reputable mechanic for an assessment of the problem and he said his computer said that it was the traction control module in the transmission and that it would cost about $1500 to repair it including labor. He called the dealer to see if it was in stock and they said they had many of them. I would assume that they would not stock a $700 part in that quantity if they were not having quite a few problems with this part. Other SUV's have been recalled and I was wondering why mine was not. I would appreciate it if you could look into this matter for me and get back to me with an explanation. Thank you for your time as I may be getting stuck somewhere with my wife and children in the car. .

3 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2010 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 09/27/2020

The transmission slips. When you start the vehicle it sometimes starts in the wrong gear and needs to be shut off an restarted, otherwise it runs on too many rpm. At times when pushing on the gas, after a stop at a light, it does not move for a while. When it does move it jerks and abruptly starts. The running day head lamp overheats and burns out the light bulb, causing it to explode.

Failure Date: 09/15/2019

I was traveling to daytona FL from ohio for vacation. The transmission started slipping and as I got off the exit for daytona the transmission went out I barely made it to my rental. I had no extra money and can not rent a car because I have no major credut card. So I had to take out a loan for 3200. 00 for a1 transmission shop to rebuild the transmission.

5 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2018 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 02/02/2019

When the vehicle is warm, the transmission appears to slip when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear. The engine will rev between 500 to 1000 rpm while shifting. During this time (half to full second) the vehicle is not accelerating and does not respond to throttle inputs. The vehicle has been taken into dealerships 4 times for this complaint. At 35000 miles (3rd dealer visit), gm replaced the valve assembly. The problem reoccurred and gm is only offering to replace the same part, or extend the warranty on the transmission, but not both. No one at the dealership or gm technical assistance center has any idea what is actually wrong and is not taking any steps to find the cause of the issue. The service manager has admitted that there is a problem, but gm denied him any help in resolving the issue. They have said that this is not a safety issue, but I do not feel comfortable driving a car that may become unresponsive to accelerator pedal input for a full second. Note that this issue is still covered by the powertrain warranty at this time.

7 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2010 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 06/13/2018

While driving, my transmission was slipping occasionally and then it became a daily occurrence and multiple times a day occurance. When it slipped, I could feel it and the rpms would increase. I took it to a local transmission shop and it turned out to be a 3/5 wave plate failure. The broken parts damaged the rest of my transmission and I had to have a complete rebuild. I was lucky that I brought it in to be checked as I found out that this issue could have caused the transmission to fail completely which could have put the occupants of my vehicle at risk of injury or death due to an accident caused by loss of power due to a drivetrain failure. I have also read that there was a recall for the same issue on the 07-09's and that recall was #14404 special coverage transmission clutch wave plate. I have also read that the same part was used in 2010 but that gm refuses to extend this to 2010 models even though 2009 parts were used. I have contacted gm and they are telling me that my VIN is not included. It should be since my vehicle was made in 2009.

8 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2012 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 06/07/2018

Tl- the contact owns a 2012 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that the transmission had been slipping in any gear from shifting out of park. The contact had to apply the emergency brake to prevent a potential failure if it may progress with no warning while changing gears. The vehicle has been inspected by an independent mechanic who suggested that the vehicle be taken to a dealer for inspection, diagnosis and to determine if there was a recall to service the transmission. A dealership has not been contacted yet. The manufacturer was contacted, had issued 38 TSB on power train and no recalls for power train/transmission yet. The vehicle was not repaired yet. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 115,116. Dyd.

9 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2007 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 08/22/2017

2016 both front and back ac had to be replaced, currently transmission is slipping, rear lift gate, after recall fix, still won't shut -takes up to 3-4 times to close lift gate when nothing is in the way, dvd/cd player stopped working in 2015.

10 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2009 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 04/10/2017

I bought the car on March 21st of 2017 car seemed to be running and driving fine( shifting and driving smooth) and on April 10th 2017 I was on my way to work I have a approx 12 mile drive one way commute to my work place and I noticed all of the sudden whn trans was shifting gears it would slip a little bit so I drove it in a manner to where the slipping was minimal and after work when I put in reverse it was slipping worse than what it was that morning in drive I drove it home so at most from the time the problem started it was drove less than 20 miles but by the time I got home two blocks away from my house I stopped at a stop sign and trans completely stopped pulling car would not move at all luckily I was on small incline and there was no other vehicles behind me so I was able to put in reverse and get the car out of the road so I called the car lot where I had bought the car and they said to not get to exited that it could just b a sensor something small that they would send a tow truck to pick it up and take to mechanic shop and we go from there we'll now on April 12 we was told that the transmission is completely shot and it was could b upwards to 3500$ for used transmission that had 76kmiles that also includes installation of transmission I'm not comfortable with paying that much for used transmission that I don't know what I'm getting and also no warranty on or guarantee I bought the the car as is but I traded in my 03 tahoe still a very dependable SUV and I also put 5000 $ cash down on this Acadia and now this the dealer says he will need 2000$ up front and he will pay the rest of it and whatever that amount is that he would put it on top of what he had already financed because (he wants to help out) no help other than not having to come up with the whole 3500$ at once. Any advise on wht I should do or if this may b part of a recall on this vehicle.

11 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2007 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 02/17/2017

Transmission keeps slipping and sliding out of gear (it work sometime smoothly )especially when I'm driving.

12 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2010 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 07/29/2016

Engine light prompted a trip to the GMC dealer to have the vehicle checked out. We were told it was the timing chain and it was a know problem, however GMC is not covering it. Also transmission is slipping and needs to be replaced GMC Acadia are known for both problems and will not fix. It's going to cost around $5,000 to fix both these need to be recalled,I had a case open with GMC and they will cover nothing. Worst SUV ever.

14 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2008 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 01/01/2015

Transmission is slipping really badly to the point it is unsafe for me to drive and this is will less than 53,000 miles on the vehicle. Brought it into a mechanic and the transmission needs to be rebuilt or be completely replaced with an estimated price of $3,000-$4,000 for the repair. I know that there are many, many other people that have experienced this same transmission issue and have filed complaints so when are you going to hold GMC accountable for these defective transmissions?.

15 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2009 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 12/29/2014

2009 Acadia just under 60k miles, transmission slips, can't go over 45mph, took to GMC dealer who stated our wave plate was damaged, needs new transmission, warranty ended 6 months ago $4000 bill and gm won't back their vehicles, had vehicle at same GMC dealer less than 1 year ago complaining about transmission slipping but was told nothing is wrong.

16 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2009 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 11/18/2014

The transmission begin to slip intermittently 2 days ago. It continually became more frequent. I got it into the dealer right away and they believe it is the 3/5 wave plate. After doing some research, there are numerous complaints about this same issue beginning around 35,000 miles. Gm seems to be turning a blind eye to the problem even though there is clearly a significant problem. The mechanic and advisor at the dealer even said they have had many in for the same issue. This repair is quite expensive and shouldn't happen to vehicles with such low miles. I hope that gm will be held accountable to recall this and cover the cost of the repairs. Two weeks ago, I had an issue with the oil life monitor and engine running rough. The advisor stated that these are trash and shouldn't be used as they are causing major engine issues. Problems with this can stretch the timing chains causing more significant and costly repairs. Again, gm is well aware of the issue but seem to be ignoring the truth. Please help hold them accountable and recall these items to prevent the customers from very costly repairs.

17 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2008 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 09/27/2014

We were out in south dakota 200 miles from home. We were driving the Acadia and the transmission began to slip. We didn't think anything of it at first. We drove the Acadia home and scheduled to have the car looked at. On the Monday after we got home, I was driving my kids to school when suddenly the car went completely out of gear and the check engine light came on. I tried putting it into park and then back into gear and had no luck in getting it to go into gear. I shut the engine off and started it again and it did go into gear. I dropped my kids off at school and when in park it went out of gear again. I shut the engine off and on again and got it to go into gear. Drove it directly to the auto shop. They ran the codes. They said it was a 3/5 wave plate issue. Had to have the transmission rebuilt. 2200 for the rebuild. Reading online that this seems to be a common issue with vehicles. Talked to the transmission shop and they said they were rebuilding 8 of these a week from the Saturn, Buick, chevy and Acadias with the 6 speed transmission. They said the wave plate wasn't heat treated at the factory or something like that. It gets heated and deteriorates. Gm would do nothing to help. Hopefully, you guys can.

18 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2007 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 09/20/2014

Transmission failure. We were driving out of town on an interstate highway approximately 65 mph and engine suddenly revved indicating that the transmission was disengaged. Could not accelerate and had to coast to the side of the road in a construction zone. There was no warning of the impending failure other than some transmission slippage earlier in the trip. Transmission did not work at all in drive or reverse. Had to be towed to an out of town shop and rent a car to get back home. Repair shop stated that transmission had failed and needed to be replaced (approx. $4,500) and that it was a common problem. Shocking that it failed at such low mileage. We were advise by our local repair shop to contact gm but they have not contacted us back. We have no choice but to get the repairs done so we have the vehicle back. I just wanted to include our incident along with the many other complaints. We will warn other Acadia owners who we know of the problem (acadias are common where we live) and the many other problems that it has (based on the numerous other complaints and service bulletins).

19 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2008 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 09/05/2014

My wife was driving down the highway with our kids when the transmission suddenly slipped. The engine revved up and then dropped into the next gear. The next time she came to a stop the car wouldn't shift into third or fifth gear. It will not go into reverse either. There are no "service engine" lights on. The service garage said she was lucky it didn't happen in heavy traffic. This seems to be a very common problem with these gm vehicles. Gm will do nothing because it's out of warranty. This is obviously a defect in manufacturing.

20 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2007 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

Driving on highway on labor day. Suddenly my GMC Acadia transmission starts slipping and I am in heavy traffic. My vehicle starts slowing down and I have no control of speed. Lucky for me and my son I was able to maneuver my car to the side of the road without creating an accident. I look online to find that this is a common problem for many cars with this transmission. Why is this not a recall??.

21 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2008 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 06/22/2014

The car transmission slipped into neutral, the engine revved to 5000 rpms. I was traveling on interstate 91 in springfield , mass. I had to shift the gear into manual and then back to drive to get the car into gear. The car reduced speed and it was very scary. I had my son as a passenger in the car. The gm dealer told me the "wave plate cracked" on the transmission.

22 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2009 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 01/09/2014

While driving thru an intersection with a yield my vehicle suddenly stopped and the engine rpm climbed to around 3500 rpm. The transmission slipped between gears causing a sudden and unexpected slow down. Luckily another driver was alert and had to slow down quickly to keep from hitting us as we were merging with traffic. This never happened before and came on without warning. As soon as it happened once it has been happening more often, I brought the vehicle in and the diagnosis was the "wave plates" in the transmission. The mechanic informed me that this transmission had an issue with a part that was not properly heat treated and caused it to fail. I called the gm dealer and they would not warranty because we were just outside the 100,000 mile warranty period. They also stated that they knew there have been many issues with this vehicle but gm has not issued any type of recall. Now I need a new transmission at a cost of around 4,000 dollars. I have owned several gm vehicles in the past and gotten well over 250,000 miles with no issues at all. This could have been very serious and caused injuries if the circumstances were different and someone who panicked was involved. I feel that this should warrant a recall and force gm into looking into this further. Thank you for your time.

23 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2007 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 11/28/2013

Was passing a slower moving vehicle when transmission started slipping severely. Pulled into parking lot and then vehicle wouldn't move at first. A couple of the gears seemed to slip in drive and reverse had a shutter. Took it to a gm dealer and they said its a wave plate in the transmission that is messed up.

24 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2008 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 11/23/2013

Complete transmission failure. Fluid was checked and full after feeling the transmission slip moments before. Turned to go back home and the vehicle lost power. Thankfully we were not yet on the interstate and coasted off the road. Vehicle was towed to dealership where it was confirmed that the transmission was ruined and total replacement was required at a cost of $4200. After reading about the many issues with this vehicle and speaking to a mechanic who said they were always fixing major issues with this model/year we opted to trade instead. Didn't want to invest that amount of money and always be waiting for the next issue to arise.

25 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2008 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 08/21/2013

I bought the 2008 Acadia new in June 2008. It just came off the 5 year 100,000 mile powertrain warranty (81k miles) and the transmission began to slip. I have read numerous cases where the defective part is the wave plate. It appears common in 2007 and 2008 Acadia, Buick enclave and Saturn outlook. Gm rectified the problem by using new parts in 2009 and newer models. Gm should be forced to issue a recall. In this day and age transmissions should not have problems at the low mileage that has been identified in countless nytsa complaints and social media forums.

26 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2009 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 08/19/2013

* transmission was slipping and revving up between gears. Delayed response and clunking sound when it is in reverse. "check engine light" also came on. Barely drove the car to the dealership for repairs. Dealership service advisor scheduled a transmission rebuild. After doing internet search, I saw countless complaints in blogs, sns, etc. There are so many people having this transmission problem. Not acceptable. GMC has powertrain warranty 5 year /100k miles. My warranty expires in four months and gm should provide extended powertrain warranty beyond 5 years based unreliable transmission design/quality. * power steering problem. Power steering is making moaning under low speed driving (in the parking lot, driving around subdivision, etc. ). Noise is coming from the inside steering column area. Also steering is very tight and hard. Complained to dealership multiple times. Dealership replaced the seal twice, but the problem is still there. Dealership told me that gm does not have a fix for this problem.

27 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2007 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 07/05/2013

The transmission started slipping when I merged onto the highway. The engine rpm would spike to 4,000 or 5,000 even though the car was not accelerating. I drove the car right to the dealership which was only a mile away. The dealership later called back and stated that I need a new transmission. This is for a car with only 55,000 miles on it! these cars seem to have a common premature failure with a wave plate that is internal to the transmission. I had no choice but to purchase a new transmission.

28 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2008 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 02/21/2013

Transmission started slipping between 2nd and 3rd gear then two days later just quit in a drive thru lane at a fast food. Couldn't get into any gear. I had to have people push it out to a safe location. Towed it home. Now I have a $18,000 piece of scrap metal sitting in my driveway.

29 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2007 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 11/23/2012

I have a 2007 GMC Acadia the transmission is slipping. The dealer told me is a valve body inside transmission, need to replaced whole transmission don't have warranty so the amount is 2600. 00 just the transmission no labor. Now I was reading and there's many cases like this they are saying the parts they used to build trans are made in china that's why there slipping and having trouble with it. Need u guys to check on this power train problem before some one gets hurt while driving it is dangerous. My wife was driving with my boys inside every single one of them got scared and say that they don't like this truck no more thank you.

30 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2007 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 09/10/2012

10/27/2014 - 2007 GMC Acadia transmission slips continually until it had a complete failure at 111,000. I called gm and opened claim. Google Acadia transmission problems, why has this transmission not been recalled? gm failed to harden these wave plates in the 2007 & 2008 GMC Acadia . There are documented failures out there as soon as 25,000 miles. This transmission is such a piece of junk. The local transmission shop works on this transmission more than any other. Please help us the bill for transmittion to be fixed is almost $4500.

31 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2007 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 10/25/2011

2007 GMC Acadia transmission slips continually until it had a complete failure at 127,000 needing 2,3,5 and reverse wave plates. Google Acadia transmission problems, why has this transmission not been recalled? gm failed to harden these wave plates in the 2007 & 2008 GMC Acadia along with the clone cars in the gm line up. There are documented failures out there as soon as 25,000 miles. This transmission is such a piece of junk. The local transmission shop works on this transmission more than any other. Did the NHTSA stop holding gm accountable for gross negligence after the bailout? I guess the only recourse is to take matters into our own hands like Mini cooper drivers and become part of a class action lawsuit.

32 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2008 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 01/25/2010

Vehicle leaks water when it rains onto driver and front passenger. Water leaks into airbags and visors. After rains, vehicle will not turn off, even with key removed. Vehicle rolls significantly while in park or when in gear. Transmission skips and slips.
