1 Brake Abs Warning Light problem of the 2000 GMC C1500

Failure Date: 12/08/2011

Had a recall on the brakes, recall # 05068. Classic cheverolet (now out of business did the work) they only cleaned the parts, abs light came back on a few months later so they just kept cleaning them until my warranty expired. Then when I brought it back it all of a sudden need over $2000 dollars of repairs. My wife got them to kick in a $1000. But I believe the parts should of been re manufactured out of stainless steel so they didn't rust & I wouldn't still be having his problem. Now I'm probably looking at another $2000 to continually fix the same issue. They basically did the same thing with the tail gate recall, just replaced with new parts of the same mat'l as the ones that were rusting and failing in the 1st place. So I replaced them since then again also. Which if they would of made them out of galvanized or stainless they would of held up better.

2 Brake Abs Warning Light problem of the 2001 GMC C1500

Failure Date: 09/09/2008

I bought a GMC sierra c-1500 pickup truck, new in 2001. In sept '05, the abs light came on & a humming noise could be heard even after the ignition was turned off. The odometer was at 50,000 miles, at that time. The problem was the ebcm shorted-out and needed to be replaced. Now, 31,000 miles & 3 years later (81,000 total miles), it shorted-out again & needed to be replaced. The cost of this part alone is $1,000. 00 (+ over $200. 00 installation). That part isn't even subjected to normal wear & tear like brakes, because its not a moving part. Its a computer module that controls the anti-lock brakes, that is vital in case of emergency braking, which luckily I havent needed to use. I dont know if the ebcm (part) is defective itself or if something else is causing it to short out, but I don't think this part should fail, this often. Requiring a third ebcm in 7 years, in my opinion, is unacceptable. Ive contacted GMC & I dont think I received a legitimate reason for the failure of the partjust a poor excuse. His reasoning was that my vehicle is 7 years old & has 81,000 miles, that its acceptable for a computer module, which controls the anti-lock brakes (a safety issue), to malfunction & need replacing twice. That reason was totally absurd in my opinion. Mileage shouldn't come into play because its an electronic part not a moving part. If they want to justify it because the truck is 7 years old. It was the part that failed, not the truck & it was only 3 years old and only 31,000 miles had been added, when it shorted-out again! so, they shouldnt even be talking about the vehicle itselfjust the faulty part which happens to control a very important safety feature!.

3 Brake Abs Warning Light problem of the 1997 GMC C1500

Failure Date: 08/01/2005

The contact owns a 1997 GMC z-71 1500. There is a recall for the antilock braking system for model years 1999-2002. The contact's vehicle model year does not fall under this recall . The consumer states there is a pulsation within the brakes when they are applied, causing extended stopping distances. The abs warning light did not illuminate, indicating a problem with the brakes. The dealership states that this is the same type of problem as with the model year vehicles covered under the recall.

4 Brake Abs Warning Light problem of the 1999 GMC C1500

Failure Date: 02/10/2002

Abs motor started running loadly continuously. Abs light on. Had to have motor disconnected, so don't have abs now. Our mechanic said he has seen several 1999-2000 GMC/Chevrolet trucks with this problem. We contacted general motors; they said there is no recall, truck out of warranty, it's our problem. We are told it will cost approx. $1300 for repair. We believe it is a manufacturer/safety defect.
