Six problems related to service brakes have been reported for the 2002 GMC C2500. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Backing my truck down a boat launch to put a pwc in. As I applied the brake at the bottom of the ramp, the pedal went to the floor, losing all brakes. Since I was close to the water, by the time I got it into forward, it was already over the edge of the ramp into the water. Submerged up to the bottom of the roof. A total loss.
Brake-line-corrosion- lost my brakes.
Vehicle is a 2002 GMC hd 2500 pickup truck with a duramax diesel engine, and 5 speed allison transmission while driving on surface streets, the power brakes and steering both went out simultaneously. Stopping required both feet on pedal, and steering was nearly impossible. Problem traced to the "hydroboost" and the power steering pump. Both were replaced along with the high pressure hose. Evidently, the pump failed to yield any boost pressure, which in turn rendered power steeling and brakes inoperative. A very dangerous situation. The tow truck that responded indicated that they have had multiple failures of the same items (87 ot 8 GMC hd trucks) and in blogs with other GMC/chevy diesel owners it appears to be a common defect. There were no noises, or other indicator of pending problems. Contact with the dealer revealed that " I should change the ps fluid every 2 years: (not in the maintenance section of owner manual).
I was exiting my driveway, which is very steep, the brake pedal went to the floor with no warning, lamps or otherwise. My vehicle surged across both lanes and wound up in the woods.
I have a 2002 GMC sierra 2500hd pickup truck that is exhibiting abs braking problems at low speeds. The abs system will engage and disengage at low speeds on perfectly dry driving surfaces. I was informed by a friend that he thought GMC had a recall on this issue. I researched on the web and found a recall that described this situation exactly. I contacted the local dealer and they said there was no outstanding recalls for my vehicle. I then contacted GMC directly (from a phone number listed on one of the web obtained recall notices) and they ran my VIN and said that my truck was not covered by the recall. I want to know how to get my truck and similar trucks included in the recall that apparently did not include my specific vehicle.
Right rear brake of 2002 GMC siverado 2500hd does not release completely. Rim gets hot and brakes smoke. Gm dealer on second service problem installed covers over the brakes to keep road grim out. This does not seem to fix the problem. Just dropped off truck for the third time with the same issues and they can not find any problems. Rim is destroyed due to heat and brake dust. Truck has 11,000 miles on it.
