1 Body problem of the 2024 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 12/19/2024

While driving through a car wash air blow dryer, the roof was popping in and out resulting in a dent of the sheet metal. The roof area appears to be very weak structurally. The roof can be pushed in by hand. This could be dangerous in a rollover situation.

2 Body problem of the 2018 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 05/23/2024

Major potential for deadly fire or explosion. Fuel tank strapped failed after forward strap bolt fell out of threaded cross member where fastened in frame. The failure led to the fuel tank hanging inches off the ground on the freeway stressing fuel pump lines to forward upper tank. Metal grinding noises heard to prompt roadside inspection confirming hanging, unsecured tank full of 26gal of diesel. The tank wedged the fuel tank strap between plastic tank and drive shaft (propeller shaft) with heat and potentially spark as the the metal strap ground into the drive shaft marring and striating the durable metal. Heat and plastic melts, heat and spark with diesel combusts. . In addition to risking of dragging tank at highway speed rupturing tank. Upon service at the dealer, mechanic observed the rear bolt to fuel strap was also loose and needed to be secured. GMC protection plan denied compensation for coverage as they do not cover "bolts, fuel straps, or manufacturer defects" under advertised "bumper to bumper" GMC protection plan marketed by GMC dealerships as protection for all non-wearable parts. No warning indicators appeared. My dog was in the truck bed in a camper shell directly above the potentially massive fire or explosion, this could have been catastrophic if it had been ignored. Additionally I was in northern California and southern oregon when issue presented- potentially causing a major forest fire incident. While my outcome was fortunate in terms of safety, this could claim lives and even massive incidental loss of property. Vehicle has been inspected by local dealer and gm notified, hoping to receive coverage for damaged parts. Interestingly, there was previously a gm recall involving forward fuel strap dislodging and wearing into drive shaft on previous years of gm vehicles. No notable corrosion observed, bolts in question are high on frame secured to protected cross members, occurred at approximately 75k miles. I have photos on another device, if needed.

3 Body problem of the 2023 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 02/24/2024

After each rain or hand car washing, the oem sunroof has a gurgling sound when driving at speeds above 25 mph. This does not clear for miles, or over time (at least 1 day without water). Water appears to be passing through the seal into the drainage gutter, but not completely draining out through the drains. Its been in service twice to have the drain lines cleared, and the issue remains. This has been present on other car manufacturers as a "wind pressure issue" where the force of driving causes wind pressure to push what water hasn't drained back up into the sunroof. Fix was extending the drain lines at output. GMC unable to repair.

4 Body problem of the 2023 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 12/18/2023

The roof of the vehicle crackles and pops when it is in the blowing section of an automatic car wash. We have never had any experience like this before. The roof of the truck is so flimsy that it was actually dented by the hard blowing of air. I don’t feel like this car is solidly constructed and safe.

10 Body problem of the 2005 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 01/04/2022

The frames on many of these trucks are unsafe to be on the road due to rusted leaf spring mounts and frame rails that are rotting away and unable to lift on a hoist. Luckily I came across a video warning me to watch out for a rusted frame or else I could have lost control while driving. Yes, I work at a gm dealership and see this issue often, they are very similar to the Toyota trucks that had rusted frames replaced under recall. No it has not been inspected but they're is no way that it would pass an annual inspection, therefore the truck is rendered useless. There were no warnings that the frame was almost rotted in half. Very dangerous situation.

11 Body problem of the 2005 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 06/17/2020

On 6/17/20 as I was traveling under the alabaster, alabama over pass on highway 65 north an orange construction barrel was blown into the road by a truck a head of me. I swerved in the attempt to miss it. The barrel clipped the passenger side bumper and tore out my fog lamp. Thankfully no accident occurred. Would like my fog lamp replaced and barrels not in use picked up off of the highways. Thank you in advance.

Failure Date: 10/19/2018

The left rear frame rail just in front of the left rear front spring shackle has rusted through and is no longer safe to drive the vehicle. There are holes through the lower portion of the frame rail. The sides of the same area have become very thin compared to the original thickness of the frame rail. Because of the location of the rust through at the spring shackle it was recommended a frame repair should not be completed. The truck was disposed of and taken off road. The remainder of the vehicle is in good condition. Mileage 75,124 miles. The frame rail is formed into a box frame with the seam located at the bottom of the rail. The rust appears to be worst on the seam. The seam is a lap seam and appears to trap water in the lap seam. The right side frame rail is thin however is not rusted through at this time.

23 Body problem of the 2004 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 10/07/2016

On October 5, 2016, I took my truck over to my mechanic to have my brake lines bled as I replaced the right front caliper. When they took the right front tire off, they had shown me that the lower left control arm mount was going to fail. There was no failure as of yet and the vehicle was stationary when the problem was found. It was severely rusted out and cracked, as well as the frame and area around it was severely rusted and holes were visible. So I drove it home and took it over to a welder that has done repairs on the truck before and he said that it was too close to the suspension components and he wasn't going to fix it. So, as of now, I am looking for someone who specializes in automotive welding, but there not too many people here in my area who specialize in this kind of work. Inspection is coming up and I doubt it passes. Mechanically, I have has few problems with this truck and would much rather fix it than get rid of it. Pictures I am posting show the severity of the damage.

28 Body problem of the 2008 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 01/15/2009

This is a new 2008 extended cab 4x4 GMC Canyon. The doors rattle all the because the rear doors are not mounted to the frame but only to the skin of the vehicle. This means there is constant flexing and vibrating between the two doors and the door frame. This vehicle has been to the dealer 4 times in the month I've owned it and they say "that's just the way it is". There is also an intermittent knock in the rt front of the vehicle that the dealer can't find. Finally the drivers side seat material is having to be replaced because of wear and stretching and this vehicle only has 500 miles on it.

29 Body problem of the 2006 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 03/01/2007

I have a 2006 Canyon and in the last year I have had to replace tail lights, three sterios,4x4 buttons, windows, wiring has been repaired severial times, the truck is excessivly hard on gass, and as soon as my inline five cylinder engine hit 31. 000 km I had to take it back to the dealer once again ,this time for a new engine. Apparently there only good for thirty thousand and then need to be replaced. Hard to believe this truck cost me almost forty thousand dallors. Dont get what you pay for with a gm. My next truck will be a Toyota and this Canyon has convinced me to never buy another gm product again and hopfully I can save some people from making the same mistake I did.
