Ignition locking solenoid fails to release when put into park, resulting in the key stuck in the ignition. I'm then unable to leave the vehicle unattended without threat of theft or battery failure. Dealer has not been able to fix the issue. No warnings or failure indications are observed, other than the key being stuck.

When I put my GMC Canyon into park, the key will not release from the ignition. This does not happen every time, but it is a recurring problem. I first had the issue back on April 6, 2018 and the dealer "fixed" the issue. Three weeks later, April 27, 2018, I had the same issue. This time the dealer replaced the "shift control assembly". The truck was still under warranty so there was no financial burden on me. Then on September 2, 2020 the same issue happened and the shift control assembly had to be replaced again. This time the truck was not under warranty and it cost me $688. 72. Now August 2022 the key is not releasing from the ignition once again. This is the 4th time for the same issue. I believe GMC needs to recall this part and come up with a fix that will work.

Def fluid/nox sensor. My truck has 37,000 miles on it. I have been limited to 65mph, 55mph, and then 5mph 3 separate times already because def fluid quality poor permanent code. It all comes down to a dirty nox sensor #2 in the exhaust. The def fluid is not actually poor quality. I frequently travel long distance. This permanent code should not be limiting my speed. I want a full recall and have this removed from the truck. I did not buy a truck for it to tell me I can't go a certain distance for so many miles because it may be polluting a little extra. This is a safety hazard and a costly hazard when you get stranded on the side of a highway or cannot keep up with traffic because the truck is limited to a certain speed. The message also blocks all digital functions from being accessed at all times.
The frame has rust through and broke on rear front leafspring mount of frame on both side . A very know problem with almost every one of these trucks.

GMC service bulletin - pi1429b ignition key cannot be removed and /or does not rotate to the off position. If you place the truck in park and turn off the switch - the key does not rotate to the off position (it only goes to the accessory position) so you cannot remove the key. You have to start it back up and move the truck forward and backward a number of times until the key is able to be removed. There are numerous posts on GMC and Chevrolet forums throughout the internet on this same issue. Cannot imagine why this safety concern is not being addressed with a recall. Gear shift assembly or part # 23397472 is the most common posts. This happened numerous times but on 03/23/2022 it has happened every time I have tried to turn the truck off.
My key frequently gets suck in the ignition. During this event, I cannot remove the key and the vehicle will not shut down electrically (motor turns off). I have had it in the dealer shop 3 times for this same issue. I have had the key lodged at times for several hours which may require battery assistance. The "repairs" were made at ideal Buick GMC in frederick, maryland but the problem persists. I have read online blogs describing this problem by other owners. What can I expect as far as actually resolving this issue?.
Fuel/emissions: I have a 2017 GMC Canyon; I am not able to fuel the truck without the use of a funnel. As soon as I start fueling, it shuts off and "spits gas" on my clothes. When I do use the funnel, it takes me almost 20 minutes to fuel the truck. I have read in forums that it is a common occurrence with the 2017 colorado and Canyons. I have tried to explain to the dealer that it may have a clogged evap canister. The dealership was dismissive and said it was a purge valve. The dealership changed the valve but failed to fix the issue. I returned to let them know and was told it would be days before anyone would look at the vehicle even though I did call and was told to bring it. Two things, evap canister is part of the emissions system and is to cut down on the emissions, and secondly, the gas gets everywhere when it "spits" it out because the vapers have no where to go. This is the only vehicle my wife and I have and is a good truck. There are plenty of forums such as coloradofans. Com on line where others have the same issue. Thank you, james zumwalt.
While driving, the power steering and stabillitrac warnings come on, and I lose power steering. When I stop, turn the vehicle off, and restart the vehicle, the power sterring returns. This has happened three times in the past week, ranging in speed from 5 mph to 65 mph.
Ignition key randomly will not release from ignition switch. The key is stuck in the ignition in the accessory position which in turn kills the battery. Unable to remove key! I have read this is a common problem with my vehicle year / model. When placing vehicle in park it is not reliably returning the confirmation to the solenoid lock on the ignition switch that the transmission is in park. My dealer finally admitted this is a common problem. Gm needs to take responsibility and activate a recall.
Vehicle has less than 25,000 miles. Over the last 3 days, after vehicle is put in park and turned off, the key will not always rotate back to the 'off' position, and can not be removed from the ignition. This has happened at least 6 times over the last 3 days. Managed to remove key by turning vehicle back on and driving back and forth a few inches, then trying again. Took multiple tries on some occasions. With less than 25,000 miles, nothing should be worn out. . . Safety concerns:the possibility that the key will completely fail to be removable, meaning that if the vehicle must be left unattended, it must be left unlocked and in a condition that it could be started and stolen or driven by a curious child. The possibility that see-sawing back and forth in a parking spot could lead to an accident. The possibility that the vehicle will have to be towed. The possibility of being stranded outside- all my keys are on one ring, if I can't get them out of the ignition, how would I open the door to the house? the problem has not yet been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service station. I will be calling to schedule an appointment. The vehicle or component has not been inspected as of yet. No warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms happened prior to the first incident. When I returned home and had an opportunity, I did an internet search and discovered that the problem is a known issue, and has been reported by others.

When turning off vehicle the key will not to “off” mode. It stays in accessories mode and prevents the key from being able to be removed.
Unable to get the keys out of the ignition when come to a complete stop and is in park. . The key won't get released from the ignition. . I have to restart the truck several times and repeat taken the keys out. It is as if the ignition won't recognize the key. .
I backed into a parked car in a parking lot.
I lifted the truck on a hydraulic lift to find the source of a rattle thats usually a heat shield that has come loose but to my surprise I also found the frame of this truck has literal holes rotted through with the respective support structures for the transmission/transfer case, fuel tank and front leaf spring attachment points. In some places the frame has rotted away to maybe 40% of the frame is still intact. Very dangerous. The affected areas are not visible from outside the vehicle the damage is only visible from underneath. From outside it looks like typical surface rust coming through the undercoating. But this is far from typical.

The rear differential is beginning to made a noise while moving down the road, you cannot hear it from the inside the vehicle, you need to be on the outside while the vehicle is in motion.
I put the car into park and turn the key to turn the ignition off. Engine turns off but key does not turn in to off position. I have to start and turn the truck off multiple times to release the key.
While being in a stationary position, my vehicle key will not come out of the ignition. If the key is inserted and immediately attempted to be removed, it will come out with no issues. However, if the key is inserted and the vehicle is driven, the key will be stuck in the accessory acc position. The key will remain stuck for over 10-15 minutes until it can be removed from the ignition. (the longest wait time was 30 minutes) this issue has caused potential theft for our truck and threat to our own safety. It has also caused the vehicle battery to completely die, due to the keys being stuck in the acc position.
We have a 2017 GMC Canyon diesel with 56570 miles on it. While we were driving down the street (it was raining) going about 30 miles an hour and all of the sudden the "service stabilitrak" censor came on am it instantly put the brake on. We turned the truck on and off. Over and over letting it sit for more that a minute completely and still nothing. . . . We were down the street from our house and my husband had to push it home. This could have been such a dangerous situation 😳 there happened to be no one behind us but it was so abrupt that if we did they most definitely wouldn't have had time to stop and crashed right into us. I will be calling GMC in the morning but we were definitely grateful we made it home safely though pushing a truck through the rain up hill was not fun for my husband. We have read up on this and was completely surprised how many people have had this same problem. You definitely should have something put out for this letting people know. . . . This is crazy gm has either basically ignored this or simply does not care for safety. I absolutely love my truck but this truly disappoints me I hope we are not put in the same situation as all these other folks who were put through the ringer with no result for this issue!.
Nearly total frame failure due to poor steel and extreme rust and corrosion of entire frame. With this model year of GMC and Chevrolet trucks, there are a lot of reports of frame failures. My particular truck is so badly rusted that the cab and body could possibly separate due to frame failure. This vehicle has not been driven much during the winters and has been garaged most of its life. These frames shouldn't be this bad on a 15 year old vehicle.

The vehicle keeps shuttering when accelerating.
Ignition will not fully turn off and release key when truck is placed in park. I'm addition ignition and key become very hot to the touch after driving for over 20 minutes (temp outside is cool 50-60). Truck will eventually turn off and release the key after restarting and shifting through all gears multiple times (turning off, back on, shifting, etc. ). Already attempted cleaning keys (both sets) with no change in behavior.
Truck has 51496 miles. Engine light was on. Computer code stated exhaust aftertreatment fuel injector control circuit. Had to replace the injector. Code dtcp20cb. Should this be covered under the emissions warranty.
Oil coolant line that is not viewable has rusted out and oil is leaking from my car, almost causing engine damage. I did not receive an oil low warning until I was out of oil. No indications the oil was leaking and even with consistent oil changes it was unable to be seen until there was a problem. I am unsure how long this has been happening since it was a slow leak and I didn't get any alerts until all my oil was gone. My truck is 4 yrs old, I bought it used September 29,2015 with 1100 miles on it, I maintain my vehicle, it has 43000 miles and I get ziebart rust proofing yearly, that I bought through the dealer when I bought my car. This should not have happened.
Several times in the past 2 years, my 2015 GMC Canyon has stalled when either coming to a stop or trying to start from a stop. Most times it shudders while stopping then the engine shuts down. 2 times I thought that I was safe from stall because it remained running after the shudder but when I stepped on the gas to go it stalled. The last time, about a week ago, it happened while trying to cross a busy intersection. Causing me to panic, throw it into neutral and start, with barely enough time to throw it into gear and get out of the way of oncoming traffic. It's scary and dangerous to both me and to other drivers. Ive attempted to take it to the dealer but they won't do anything because there aren't any warning lights on. I did get a notice on this, took it back into the dealer and again was told without warning lights they won't do anything. So does someone actually have to die or be in a life changing accident for something to be done?.
On cold startup there is a loud clunk coming from front of vehicle and the vibration can be felt from inside the truck as if something hit the floor underneath.
Car was working fine most of the day. Got in my car and it would not start. I tried it three times, no luck. I shut everything off, pulled the keys, opened the door. I then tried again fo turn on car, came right on. Now however, the car is having over accelerating and decelerating problems which it didnt have two hours ago. Going up/down any type of hill is where its the worst at accelerating and decelerating randomly. Sometimes it over accelerating and I dont even have my foot on the gas at that moment. And it has a hard bucking problem between the two random accelerating/decelerating problems.
1) <powertrain> I have 40k on my Canyon and am experiencing acceleration issues 0-40mph 1-3rd shift points (automatic transmission). The transmission acts like it cannot decide to either say in 2nd or shift to 3rd and there's a lag or surging affect when this happens. I had the transmission fluid and transfer case fluids changed ar the gm dealership. Problem still persists. 2) <other> key gets stuck in the ignition. When placing the truck in park there's an internal relay/switch within the shifter that is supposed to activate a relay/unlock signal to the key tumbler in the steering column. This doesn't always happen and the key won't turn to the off position to allow it to be released. I have to turn the key to the acc position put the truck in drive then back into park to get the relay/switch to dis-engage the key position from being locked in acc.
I had 4 loads of mulch loaded in my 2017 GMC Canyon in early June 2019. Some mulch fell between the cab and cargo box where it smoldered on top of the truck gas tank for weeks until it melted tubes prompting onstar to send me two emails 6-27-19 and 6-29-19 to see my GMC dealer within 7 days for "an issue with the emission system". The dealer ignored my first visit and may have ignored the second but now the vesicle would not allow me to pump gasoline due to a melted tube and other parts on top of the fuel tank. I discovered that the gap that all pickup truck have, had nothing to direct mulch away from the fuel tank. If I had any idea this was happening I would have covered the gap with a tarp while having mulch dumped in. I feel very lucky to be alive. My wife and I took a long drive and the truck then parked in our attached garage while we watched tv a few feet away. I can't help but wonder if this is the first time this has happened or have many been killed in mysterious explosions that destroyed the evidence.
The whole leaf spring shackle went thru the frame of the truck. After looking at how to replace this noticed pretty much the whole thing is rusted out and will need to be replaced to make it safe to be on the road again. This should be a recall on the truck for safety reasons.

Owned the vehicle from new, frame started rusting at every weldment from day one. Tried to treat the frame yearly with door grease to stop corrosion. No success, now frame is rotted and in danger of collapse.
Body frame has rot holes throughout undercarriage. New frame needed. While driving, I went over a speed bump and heard a loud boom from underneath the truck. Upon investigating, it was determined that the driveshaft broke off n was lying on the axel. Aaa was called and immediately towed the truch 1 mile to our mechanic. After a thorough inspection, it was determined that a new driveshaft was needed and upon further inspection, the mechanic spotted numerous pitting rusted holes throughout the frame. Determined that said truck was a total loss.
Vehicle ignition key can not be removed and it does not stay in park. Vehicle can crash causing injuries and property damage vehicle has about 35000k miles under warrenty and GMC refuses to do any thing about it.
