I've noticed an issue since I picked up my vehicle from its last service where the rpms stay around 1,000 when I let off the gas and should be coasting. The vehicle will continue to accelerate at 11 to 13 mph, and I really have to mash the brake pedal to stop. There is an update notice that popped up starting yesterday, but it will not install. Looks like the update is for the issue I am having. The update was supposed to be installed already per the service bulletin. Update number is n242452130.

Stabiltrak system stops working randomly all the time. It is seemingly random. It can do it as soon as I crank the truck, but more commonly it happens when I am driving. The abs also will cause the truck to pull harder in one direction either left or right randomly. I have to put pressure on the steering will in the opposite direction to keep the vehicle in the middle of the lane. Stabiltrak sensor 1st went off around October 2023. It typically doesn't come back on immediately if I power cycle the truck. No accident to report yet but when the power steering does no work while I'm driving, it is extremely hard to turn.

Rack and pinion assembly failure. Steering became “sticky”. Had to pull on the wheel to break it loose multiple times to make a full turn. This occurred while driving on the highway. No warning or lights. Confirmed by dealership. Truck has 2200 miles, under warranty. When I took the truck in they also informed me there was a recall on the fuel injection computer. I found that strange considering I was never alerted of this recall nor can I find it anywhere online with my VIN number.
Error code p0494 conducted upon check engine light coming on.

The ecu electric control model has now burned up 3 times and the dealership just keeps replacing it the only thing they keep saying not to fill up the gas tank all the way? the gas gauge just goes dead.
Subject: urgent safety concern regarding 2023 GMC Canyon fuel pump module failure I am writing to express my concerns regarding a significant safety issue I experienced with my 2023 GMC Canyon, which has only 3,000 miles on the odometer. On November 12, 2024, while traveling southbound on interstate 75 in florida, my vehicle unexpectedly lost all power. All electronics, including the dashboard and display screens, shut off, and the engine stalled. I was forced to coast to a stop on the shoulder, directly on the bridge section of I-75 over u. S. 301. With less than 12 inches of clearance between my driver’s side and passing traffic, this situation posed a severe risk to my safety. To make matters worse, the tow truck driver was unable to safely and properly secure my vehicle due to the danger presented by the high-speed traffic. My vehicle has now been at the GMC dealership for seven days, and I have been informed that the issue was caused by a faulty fuel pump module. I believe this represents a critical safety defect that warrants immediate attention and possibly a recall. Upon further research, I have found similar reports of fuel pump module failures in online forums, indicating that this may be a widespread issue affecting other owners across the country. In addition, when the tow truck dropped my vehicle off at the GMC dealership, after reading the engine codes the dealership found 18 active engine codes. I feel as if this is a possible known issue and I should have been informed when purchasing the vehicle. I kindly request your assistance in addressing this matter. I urge GMC to investigate the extent of this defect and take appropriate action to ensure the safety of all affected vehicles and their drivers. Thank you for your prompt attention to this urgent matter. Please let me know how GMC plans to proceed. I am available to provide additional information or documentation if needed.

The fuel gauge on the vehicle does not appear to read accurately. The distance to empty reading varies on every refuel regardless if the same amount of fuel is filled in the vehicle. I believe this is a safety issue because a driver can run out of gas causing an accident due to inaccurate fuel gauge readings. I’ve taken to the dealership and have been told they cannot reproduce the complaint and it remains defective. I’m hoping if others experience the same complaint then a recall may be activated.
Major potential for deadly fire or explosion. Fuel tank strapped failed after forward strap bolt fell out of threaded cross member where fastened in frame. The failure led to the fuel tank hanging inches off the ground on the freeway stressing fuel pump lines to forward upper tank. Metal grinding noises heard to prompt roadside inspection confirming hanging, unsecured tank full of 26gal of diesel. The tank wedged the fuel tank strap between plastic tank and drive shaft (propeller shaft) with heat and potentially spark as the the metal strap ground into the drive shaft marring and striating the durable metal. Heat and plastic melts, heat and spark with diesel combusts. . In addition to risking of dragging tank at highway speed rupturing tank. Upon service at the dealer, mechanic observed the rear bolt to fuel strap was also loose and needed to be secured. GMC protection plan denied compensation for coverage as they do not cover "bolts, fuel straps, or manufacturer defects" under advertised "bumper to bumper" GMC protection plan marketed by GMC dealerships as protection for all non-wearable parts. No warning indicators appeared. My dog was in the truck bed in a camper shell directly above the potentially massive fire or explosion, this could have been catastrophic if it had been ignored. Additionally I was in northern California and southern oregon when issue presented- potentially causing a major forest fire incident. While my outcome was fortunate in terms of safety, this could claim lives and even massive incidental loss of property. Vehicle has been inspected by local dealer and gm notified, hoping to receive coverage for damaged parts. Interestingly, there was previously a gm recall involving forward fuel strap dislodging and wearing into drive shaft on previous years of gm vehicles. No notable corrosion observed, bolts in question are high on frame secured to protected cross members, occurred at approximately 75k miles. I have photos on another device, if needed.
The high pressure fuel pump broke twice within a 6 month period. The first time, I was traveling at 70 mph in the middle of 100 degree weather in texas. When I took it to the shop, the mechanic mentioned that the bolt broke inside of the engine and caused the high pressure fuel pump to break and dump gasoline everywhere. It was repaired by adding a new pump and fuel line. After driving it for 5 months, the same issue happened again while driving 30 mph. My safety was put at risk since it was large amounts of gasoline that it was throwing which could have easily caused a explosion/fire. The warning message was a check engine light and the truck going into limp mode. From my research, this exact issue was a recall for the 2018 version of the truck.

High pressure fuel pump broke off while driving on highway causing truck to stall. Stabilitrack warning was activated and engine power reduced message came on dash. Speed was rapidly reduced to 15 mph on the highway and started knocking hard. Mechanic found the pump physically broke and a bolt was sheered off inside of head.
It keeps putting my vehicle into limp mode with the def system and tell me that I have poor exhaust quality. I can’t keep taking my vehicle into the shop not sure if it’s a sensor or the soot again or what but something has got to give.

We are always getting a code p1478 on our truck when we add def fuel in it when it is time to do so. We have tried to clear it out on our own but never goes away and have to end up taking it to the dealership to get it done. They said it's because the soot it built up. We have always used blue def in our vehicles. There was a recall on this system where they have to reset the system or a sensor. I don't understand whey this is always happening, the drivers seat was recalled once for it not being manufactured corrected. It fabic held up a few years when we got the few years when we got the vehicle and it is has done it again. We have asked the dealership about about another recall on the seat and they said they haven't seen one. We have tried to get it fixed on our own but no one have the fabic to do it. It isn't but together very well at all.
Fuel/emissions: I have a 2017 GMC Canyon; I am not able to fuel the truck without the use of a funnel. As soon as I start fueling, it shuts off and "spits gas" on my clothes. When I do use the funnel, it takes me almost 20 minutes to fuel the truck. I have read in forums that it is a common occurrence with the 2017 colorado and Canyons. I have tried to explain to the dealer that it may have a clogged evap canister. The dealership was dismissive and said it was a purge valve. The dealership changed the valve but failed to fix the issue. I returned to let them know and was told it would be days before anyone would look at the vehicle even though I did call and was told to bring it. Two things, evap canister is part of the emissions system and is to cut down on the emissions, and secondly, the gas gets everywhere when it "spits" it out because the vapers have no where to go. This is the only vehicle my wife and I have and is a good truck. There are plenty of forums such as coloradofans. Com on line where others have the same issue. Thank you, james zumwalt.

On Wednesday September 22nd at approximately 9:45 pm. My 2019 GMC Canyon was parked on my street and caught fire and was destroyed for no known reason. The fire department came ruled the cause as un known. The cabin and the bed were totally destroyed. Appears to be no issue to the engine compartment.
I have a fuel leak coming from the top of the fuel tank and running down the side of the tank. The leak occurs when the vehicle is running so it's appears to be coming from the high pressure fuel line or top of the fuel pump. It appears to be exactly what is described in NHTSA campaign number 18v358000 and in GMC recall 18188 however GMC customer support told me recall 18188 only applies to the 2018 year model and not my 2017. When I search for recalls on NHTSA by VIN it tells me 0 unrepaired recalls. My wife and I both smelled gasoline Friday afternoon when we returned from a trip. We have not driven the vehicle since. I started the vehicle and let it idle in our driveway and after a couple of minutes fuel began to leak and run down the side of the gas tank.
No accident to report. I wasn’t aware of the problem with the high pressure fuel pump intel a week later when the noise got louder, at first I figure it was the belt drive that needed check do to it sitting in the lot do to not being moved a lot. I then took it back to where the vehicle originally came from they where able to identified the problem quickly to do them knowing already that the truck had that problem but never went to fix the problem or to take time to figure the problem out.
Vehicle stalled when I was making a left turn onto route 23 from route 296 in windham NY. Car shuttered and stalled. Almost got t-boned by a semi. Extremely lucky that I was able to roll backwards onto the bridge behind me. I did go online and saw that were other owners with the duramax diesel that experienced similar problems. This could have been a fatal issue. I'm actually worried about driving this pick up. Contacted the dealer and they told me without the error code they couldn't help me. Disconnected the battery to clear the check engine light. Any suggestions?.
An animal chewed through the fuel line causing a significant fuel leak. This was caused by the construction on the fuel line containing soy based products which attracts wildlife. This occurred while the vehicle was parked (stationary).
After filling up fuel spits back out of the filler tube. Has occured multiple times for many years. Appears to be getting worse. Vehicle is stationary.

The vehicle keeps shuttering when accelerating.
When driving the car get hard to steering side to side and a waining light for service come on. Try to get service but when the car is turn off light come off and can't be detected by the diagnostic system. The fuel system I change 3 new fuel cap and still show tide you cap or the engine sign.
Truck stalls as if in neutral after starting. Unfortunately, I have to let this truck run for t least 10 minutes or more before I can take off. If I start the truck and put it in drive any sooner, truck won't move. Actually, it runs then send to slam (very hard jerk) into drive, studders, then functions normal. I took it back to dealer and they say there has been multiple complaints about these trucks. I also was told gm put a statement out about these complaints and said there is nothing they can do to fix, in so many words. Dealer say it will go away. I've had this vehicle since July 4 2019 and still happening almost everyday.
On July 2nd, I looked where my Canyon was parked and found a significant amount of diesel fuel on the ground. Upon further inspection, I found fuel all over the underside of the vehicle and a sever leak from a hose. The hose was rubbing on a can coming from the ac compressor. The vehicle does not leak when parked (other than dripping) but looses significant fuel when idling or driving. This issue likely started a few days ago but was not discovered until 7/2. The fuel itself is close to several hot components including the transmission, exhaust and transfer case.
The stability track light comes on and the check engine light comes on and the car reduces its speed to 25 mph on the highway very dangerous very scary the dealer cannot seem to fix the issues and find the problems.
Intermittent and repeated partial failure of fuel system control module part number 20850907 during driving, including rough engine operation, loss of most of engine power on moderate highway grade, slowing to 15 mph under speed limit, and failure to restart approximately 15 minutes after shutdown. Malfunction indicator lamp lit and diagnostic code for low fuel rail pressure was recorded, but fscm malfunction diagnostic code was not recorded until after at least two incidents had taken place. Vehicle (VIN) entry into database returned "0 recalls", so NHTSA campaign 09v154000 remained unknown and ordinary replacement of fscm was attempted. When fscm 20850907 replacement was ordered, gm fscm part 20759945 was supplied, which failed to operate. Gm dealer refused to verify correct part number and withheld all information about NHTSA campaign 09v154000.

Transmission does not move into next gear when driving 20/25 30/35this vehicle is an accident waiting to happen you can't pass anyone also it you can't merge on highway safely you must drive vehicle in a adjusted manner.
Attempt to start the engine after sitting for a few hours in driveway, the engine starts then sputters and stalls as if not getting enough gas and attempts to die. After a few moments, it finally catches up and runs. Engine has stalled while sitting at traffic lighs several times. According to document id # 2274089--- #08411 product safety- hard start, no start, engine stall- replace engine control module- ( may 7, 2009) I have taken my vehicle to a GMC dealership several times in the past along with a copy of recall but they claim that it is a service bullentin and not a recall so they would not fix the problem. I took my vehicle to an independent gateway service dealership and told them the problem I was having with the engine stall. They pulled up the recall and showed it to me and advised me to take my vehicle to a gm dealership for the recall that the gm dealership says that there is no recall. I have had this truck for 4 years now and the same problem exist but gm denys that a recall exist even when I have the paperwork in hand. The recall pertains to truck numbersbetween 98104805 - 98123129. My truck # is 98123053 which falls in that category. My vehicle falls into this category but has not been repaired since I have had posession. I would appreciate it if this problem can be resolved.
The truck falls on it's face when accelerating after slowing down. The dealership says nothing is wrong. This is a dangerous situation. I have talked with other Canyon owners and they have the same problem.
My truck is exhibiting an issue in which the gm passlock system disables the fuel and engine because of some malfunction. This system is intended to disable the fuel system on a vehicle if it detects that the ignition has been tampered with or in improper key has been used to try and start the vehicle. My issue is that intermittently when I try to start my truck with the factory key, the passlock system engages and does not allow me to start my truck. I have to wait 10 minutes in order for the passlock system light to turn off on the dashboard. Sometimes my truck will start after this 10 minute lockout period. It has happened before where my truck will fail to start after the first lockout period and I have to wait another 10 minutes. Once the passlock system allows me to start the engine, my truck runs fine with no issues. In my opinion, this is a serious safety concern. In any emergency situation, I would hope to depend on my truck starting. This malfunctioning passlock system prevents me from starting my truck. My greatest issue with this situation is that my truck is not the only one that is affected by this. A quick google search of "GMC Canyon passlock" will show pages upon pages of forums of other truck owners with the same problem. I live in an area of the country with a high risk of forest fires. I know friends who have been evacuated from their homes in the past. I honestly believe that this malfunction of my truck could greatly impact my ability to evacuate in case of an emergency.

Vehicle won't start after it shut off while driving on frwy . Pull over and started after a few minutes like nothing had happened.
I bought a brand new 2016 Canyon, test drive went well, although I admit it probably wasn't long enough. Purchased on Sunday, and during the next week driving I began noticing the transmission was not shifting at the proper times. Like most people on here, the transmission appears to be very confused , especially when decelerating into the 20-35 mpg range and attempting to re-accelerate back up. It will misfire or be very unresponsive, and then clunk and jerk you forward once it decides to change gears. It also does something that I think is even more dangerous when you are going around 30-40 mpg and then simply let off the accelerator. In this instance, I feel like it down shifts instantly and it feels like the truck is being pulled back (instead of simply coasting like I would want), and then at some point it "releases" from this and the truck actually stops decelerating and speeds up a bit, even though the gas had been released many seconds ago. This is particularly dangerous in stop and go city traffic. I think the overarching problem here is the shift points that the ecm has determined (or been programmed with). You can tell this when accelerating from a stop, my truck gets to third gear by 15 miles per hour and never goes above 2k rpm's??? I admit I am a bit light-footed on driving, which compounds the problem because I eventually am giving a small amount of acceleration to a truck in 4th gear only going 20 mph, which suck. I have also read this was a common problem on 15 Canyon (obviously read after purchase), and GMC eventually came out with a few fixes, including ecm patch updates or lower valve replacement. I imagine that many of the 2016's were already off the line by the time these '15 fixes came out (in April 15 I believe), but the dealerships have not received any of these for the 2016.
Truck seems to be missing when cruising, then hesitation when accelerating. Seems to be not getting enough fuel frequently when just accelerating. Dealer says they can't find anything wrong. Told them the problem is 90% reduced when using premium fuel. Still no idea.
Tl-the contact owns a 2005 GMC Canyon. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started, there was a fuel odor coming from the vehicles blower vents. The contact stated that after driving the vehicle 30 to 35 minutes, the odor would dissipate. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000. Djr.
This incident has happened on several occasions. When taking off from a stopped position and going through the gears when accelerating quickly, the accelerator has stuck even when my foot is taken off of the pedal. This happens as I am shifting from first to second gear, when I take my foot off the gas then push in the clutch and shift gear and release the clutch, the computer does not respond to my foot coming off the throttle. The truck continues to accelerate even with my foot off of the throttle. The only way to stop the acceleration is to repeatedly tap the pedal until it releases. The first time this happened I thought that I might have inadvertently hit the cruise control but this is not the case. It seems that I need to allow approximately a one second delay from when I remove my foot from the throttle until I push in the clutch to avoid this situation. Is this typical of todays computer controlled vehicles?.
