1 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2019

I was driving down the road when the car shut down everything I was scared because I had traffic right behind me going 45mph and then they car would not run again. I was right in the middle of an inter section at hall road and 59 it was the scariest thing that has happened to me. I bought this vehicle as a used auto and I'm not sure if the emmission system ever got changed and this happened once before and the dealer said not to drive with my house keys attached. I had to get the auto towed home.

2 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/19/2018

The dash cluster does not work correctly, all the lights turn on and doors lock while I am driving on in town or on the highway , all the gauges come on at once while driving on the streets at random times. . The rear has airbags in the suspension and and aren't working properly, I took it to the shop and they said it had 30 codes on the diagnostic machine but they couldn't find the problem.

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2017

I was stopped at a light when the car accelerated on its own, I pressed the brake but the car would not stop . I hit car the car in front of me, I had to put car in neutral to stop the car. Car was towed to dealer, the cause was a internally shorted throttle body. The throttle body was replaced. This was the third time car accelerated on own and would not stop. The first two times my mechanic could not find any problem.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2015

Vehicle power steering hose busted. My truck isn't idling right it sounds like my transmission is slipping. Also my tire traction seems off and I repeatedly have to put air in tires. Tires always makes a certain sound on the highway, I don't know if its normal or not.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2013

Driving in a school zone looked at speedometer to check speed I was in a 40 mph zone and speedometer said I was doing 70 mph. School zone had a " your speed is" display and I was only going 38 mph. The speedometer increased as I increased speed but was 30 mph over. After I got home and turned my truck off the speedometer still showed mph.

6 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/05/2011

I was driving down the road and fist off, my speedometer went crazy. Then my fuel gauge went all the way to full, then to empty. Then it wouldn't work at all. There was plenty of gas in the tank too, I took to a mechanic and he replaced thermostat, but it didn't fix the problem. I'm still having the problem and heard there is a recall on the 2005-2007, and it appears I'm having the same problem on this 2003 that they are having now with the newer ones and the 2003 should be included in a recall. Please evaluate. I only have 107k miles on the truck. I was told, a recall could cover up to 120k miles, so I still have some way to go before I should not be included in the recall. My service engine light is staying on too, although it's been checked numerous times and it's always something to do with the fuel system and too expensive to get fixed. Now I am having major problems because of it.

7 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/11/2011

I have a 2003 GMC Envoy. From the beginning I've had problems with the electrical working properly (rearview mirrors, seat controls, etc). Also, my fuel indicator and speedometer both went out at the same time. I believe GMC should take responsibility for the default and request a recall. I have read numerous complaints dealing with the very same issues on models from 2003 thru 2011.

8 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2011

Failure of 2003 GMC Envoy speedometer.

9 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2008

I was driving down the highway and all of my instrument panel gauges stopped working and the indicator lights came on for the entire system. This problem continues to happen and GMC will not fix this problem. They say I have too many miles and that my vehicle is not part of the recall. This now continues to happen and the whole electric system is in failure, I can't start the vehicle now and this is 2013. Chronic ongoing problem that poses major safety issues with speed, fuel and much more.

10 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2007

The side-mirrors, particularly on the driver's side, moved to different positions even with all curb parking features disabled. The happened with almost every use. 2. The speedometer gave false readings and for no particular reason or speed. It may be pegged at 120 while at idle. It will randomly reset or fail frequently.

11 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2006

Speedometer pegged out, acting erratic. . . No warning; just started while driving around 35 mph. Speedometer does not work ! recall please !.

12 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2006

: the contact stated that the speedometer stopped working on a consistently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who determined that the faulty speedometer was caused by a manufacture defect of the instrument panel and cluster. The speedometer needed to be replaced. The manufacture was notified. The vehicle has not been repaired nor replaced. The contact found many complaints (example: #10096707) concerning the electrical system.

13 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/19/2006

Speedometer was not working. Took 2003 GMC Envoy to dealership 4 times when it was under warranty and technician said nothing was wrong with speedometer. However, the speedometer stopped on 50 mph when truckwas sitting still, sometimes higher number. Called GMC regarding the speedometer, no call back, and there was nothing they could do about. Truck is current not under warranty. Now have to pay $800 out of pocket for repairs.

14 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2006

It's seems crazy to me that this agency that was created to protect consumers from faulty vehicles can let so many complaints against this manufacturer that was bailed out by taxpayers money can be so blind to the gross negligence on GMC part. I have spent count less hours and way too much money on this vehicle, only to find out that many other consumers are reporting the same problems. I have literally sat down and cried vowing never to by another american made car because they are pieces of junk (and that is putting it nicely). I have paid to replace the oxygen sensor and all that goes with that; the catalyst converter twice; the electrical system throughout the vehicle and now my radio doesn't work because there is a short that is draining the battery when the car is turned off; the speed control (mph/rpm) doesn't work and I only pray that I'm not speeding while I'm driving; the rear wiper blade works when it feels like it; my car interior constantly smells like gasoline and when I'm filling up my tank it there is always spillage; my ses light constantly stays on and since my state practices emission control I hold my breath and pray that I pass the test so I can legally drive my car. These are just some of the problems that I face with this car and frankly this year I'm not working so coming up with the money to pay again to have a mechanic remove the ses light so I can go have the emission testing performed is ridiculous and draining a wallet that is very much empty. My car now has more mileage & I haven't heard my radio in over 2 years because they don't know what is wrong so they just disconnected it. Why haven't the NHTSA/dot required GMC to fix what they know is broken and a hazard on the roads? I would strongly recommend that the NHTSA take this seriously before someone loses control and people lives are lost. Don't let this become another Toyota issue.

15 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/24/2006

: the contact stated the speedometer stopped working without warning. The dealership determined the speedometer cluster needs to be replaced. Upon driving out of town for a few hours the speedometer read 120 mph in park. The contact took the vehicle to the original GMC dealership and service department. They determined it was the cluster that needed to be replaced, and that it would be 6-8 weeks until the part would be available because it was on back order due to the high volume of Envoys and yukons that clusters needed to be replaced. The contact felt that if a number of GMC vehicles had faulty clusters then perhaps it should be recalled for at least for sub standard reasons, if not for safety reasons.

16 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/17/2005

Car: GMC Envoy 2003 when driving on a highway check engine light came on. "reduced power" light came on too. Engine rpms dropped down to 1100. Barely avoided crash. Made it to the parking lot. Restarted engine few times same problem. Executed "clear change oil light" procedure few times. It cleared "check engine" light and everything is normal now. The vehicle is equipped with "change oil" timer and light. It appears that when timer expired the computer rather than turning "change oil" light on enables "check engine" light and drastically reduces engine power. When it happens on a highway it can easily lead to a crash. I plan to take the vehicle to a dealership in two days. Thank you.

17 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2003

2003 GMC Envoy high engine idle when slowing to stop engine will not return to idle until almost at a stop. When slowing if you do not touch the brake pedal the car will continue on a flat road at 30to 35 mph. Gm answer to this point is that they all do it. I see this as a safety concern and on slipery road ccould cause the vehicle to skid not to mention unusual brake wear and fuel consumption. Thaks sam mcneil.
