26 problems related to headlights have been reported for the 2004 GMC Envoy. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The headlights are extremely dim - always have been. Found out in March from a college class that there was a recall I was unaware of (never saw mail about it). Anyhow, a 2004 vehicle is only getting older and its lights are a huge liability. More curious as to why there's a deadline for a recall (if there is a problem with a vehicle that is sold then it should be fixed - especially if it puts others at risk).

Ac plug to fan motor burnt/melt, daylight/headlight connectors melted multiple times had them replaced 3 times each side. . . Cluster/ radio/ac lights burning out lights out on different areas from illumination to gages to radio and ac control button lights head lights went out while driving so did cluster, radio and ac lights had the cluster replaced by dealer while under warranty back in 2013 over cluster shortening, had my radio replaced as well by dealer same time.
Connection to headlights keep burning up! (plug) I replace them 4 times already!.
Headlights stopped working, speedometer stopped working, fuel gauge stopped working, voltmeter gauge stopped working.
2004 GMC Envoy. Consumer writes in regards to headlight connector the consumer stated headlight connector melted, due to overheating.
Low beam headlights turn on and off without warning. . . Either in motion or stationary.
My speedometer has stopped working. The gas gauge says empty when I have just fueled the car to full. The car will surge forward when I am backing out of the drive way and putting car in drive. I have to immediately press on the brake and return the car to neutral position to stop from running into parked cars or the curb. Tonight we were leaving the park and both headlights ( low beam) are not working. All other lights and flashers on the car work. The interior light on the left half of the a/c controller does not work. The motor in the rear window went out. The dealership charged me $ 1000 to replace the motor and then they advised me that the middle window motor was bad and that would be an additional $600 to repair. I only could afford the back window motor. This car is my only mode of transportation and I cannot believe that gm has npt placed a recall on all of these issues.
2004 GMC Envoy slt- headlights go off with no warning at night- happened on a dark road, almost went in a ditch- also, speedometer does not work.
This vehicle seems to have an electircal drain or electrical ghost of some sorts. The battery has been replaced by the dealer 4 time with the previous owner. That was the dealers cure. Then when I purchased it I replaced the battery. Then it was replaced for the 6th time 18 months later. The rear window on the tail gate kept going down on it's own until the motor flew apart. The window behind the rear seat went down on it's own and does not work anymore. The retractable back roof will not engage due to the rear window. Driving down the road the ac will come on by itself also the radio, the seat heaters. Now while I'm driving at night the headlights will go out on their own, luckily the bright lights still work, but that's not helping the poor soul in front of me. Gm says that there is no recall on any of this but I'm almost terrified to drive this vehicle or let anyone else drive it at night or anytime for that matter. Not to mention any kind of electrical problems that I may of overlooked.
2004 GMC Envoy sle - frequent recurring problem with headlight failure. Headlights will turn off without notice. Checked fuses, connections and wires. Have taken to local GMC dealership (beckon maston) for repair however dealership unable to diagnose. Vehicle is completely oem, please advise.
When traveling down the road and putting on the brakes the headlights and dash lights flicker. The flickering is so much that is looks like we are flashing other cars.

I traded my 2005 Ford focus 26410 miles to wade raulerson GMC on October 3, 2007 wrote two checks in the amount of 500. 00 each that they held for four weeks for a down payment. We looked at a 2004 GMC Envoy with 65,000 miles the salesman quoted us a price of 17,000 so we did the paper work the first time on the 16th we were called in again and told we had to sign more documents this time the price of the Envoy rose to 21698. 35, I asked about my 05 focus was told it sold the next day and we had to have gap protection. Payoff on my car was 12,502. 95 and it looked as if they were giving me 14900. 00 but raised the price of the truck by 4000. 00. Bad deal to begin with. The problems began. I had to return it at the end of the month in October 2007 to have the headlights, seatbelt, and motor in the window replaced, and diagnosed to find why the service engine light will not go out. Two weeks later stranded at the daycare I had to buy a new battery. On 05/05/2008 the conditioner went out. I paid the dealership over 100. 00 to tell me it would be an additional 600. 00 plus dollars to repair the mode actuator door motor. October 17, 2008 I spent 375. 02 to have both the shift control cable and gear shift lever removed and replaced. Thank god I was actually on a parking lot when the cable broke and not in traffic. Contacting wade raulerson GMC has been useless I have practically been told you bought the "lemon" as-is now it's your troubles! there should be a law against this type of business and not just for new cars. Now no-one will touch it because of the problems it is having and the large amount that's now owed. Every time the VIN is pulled I get pushed out of the door faster than I can blink. Btw the service engine light is still on and has been since I left the dealership. I?m tired of honest hard-working people being raked over the coals by unscrupulous dealers while they get protected by the "as-is" rule then laugh all the way to the bank.
While accelerating headlights will periodically dim and brighten without warning.
The headlights and dashlights flicker from bright to dim while driving and when braking. It's a dangerous situation to have other drivers as well as myself distracted by the constant flickering, but research seems to indicate that there is no fix for the problem and an overall lack of concern from GMC.
My headlights goes out while im driving and I was just trying to find out about GMC recalls they had a recall on the head lights shining in the wrong directions but mine cuts off several times I have to pull to the side of the road/highway to wait for them to come on again I have run off the road once.
2004 GMC Envoy, headlights flickered while driving. Oncoming traffic thought I was flashing at them, causing them to pull over or flash me back, safety hazard. Took car twice to dealership, but they failed to find the cause of the problem. E found on online forums where many people have similar problem with no answers.
2004 GMC Envoy headlights would periodically dimm and go off during breaking. Without warning headlights failed with no indication. Repair at GMC dealer cost $130 for a "hdm relay". Very dangerous failure as no fuses failed, no lamps failed, but a hidden component failed which caused me to go off a highway at high speed at night.
I have been experiencing headlights, interior lights, lighting in the dash, and other lighting flicker while driving. It appears to be happening more and more. The lights become very dim and then get bright again in a matter of a few seconds. This is getting to be dangerous as people tend to pull over in front of me and sometimes traffic in going in the opposite direction coming towards me will pull of the road all thinking that I am flashing them either due to an emergency or just some wild driver behind the wheel. I had taken my vehicle to the dealer but he states he can not find anything wrong. Of course he also stated they took it for a ride but it does not happen for them. I guess not, it is hard to see lights flickering in the sunshine.
Headlights did not work, just fog and high beams, took to dealer to fix, spent $500. 00 and after I picked it up, same thing happened again, within a week, plus I received a ticket and points for driving without headlights. Took back to have fixed again, and they tried charging me another $200. 00 saying it was something else un-related. Turned on engine, and it didn't sound quite right, ended up stalling about 4 times, on way home, ended up calling them to have car towed back to dealership. They claim it was nothing they did, however, it still stalls for no apparent reason, untl this day. Never know when it could happen, very dangerous, and I am in sales and drive for a living.
When there is moisture in the air, the headlights will cast a beam of light straight up in front of the vehicle when headlights are on high. It doesn't matter if it is rain, snow or fog, it is enough of a hazard to cause you to not be able to see what is in front of you. Then, you have to drive on low beam and this can also be a hazard due to the overrunning of the headlights. This is a very dangerous condition. This 2004 GMC Envoy xl has done this since day one. I have called GMC and told them about this problem. I like this vehicle, I'm just concerned that a potential bad accident can happen as a result of this problem.
