1 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2021

The contact owns a 2004 GMC Envoy. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would independently accelerate without warning. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was not diagnosed but continued to experience the failure. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and informed the contact that they were unable to assist. The failure mileage was approximately 135,000.

Speedometer continually gets stuck at random mph.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/21/2014

The speedometer and oil pressure gauges are irratic. Speedometer needle sometimes reads up to 30 mph above or below actual speed. Concurrently the oil pressure gauge is reading at its max and will not return to 0 when the vehicle is turned off. I have researched this issue online and it seems to be happening to a lot of people who have cars with these panels.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

While going approximately 60 mph the low beam headlights just go out with only the parking lights and fog lights working. Also most of the gauges on the instrument panel do not work including the gas gauge. After some internet research many others are having these same issues.

6 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2013

The speedometer begins to give faulty readings. At first it was reporting approximately 20 miles per hour under actual speed. This almost caused a crash due to excessive unknown speed. In the last few days the speedometer starts at 60 mph and is off by approximately the same amount so when traveling 50 mph the speedometer reads 110 mph. This is a massive safety issue and there are numerous reports about this yet no recalls. How many people must be injured or killed before you take action.

7 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2012

Speedometer erratic. Stays at 120mph at all speeds until vehicle is not driven. Driven again, does not work at all or is erratic showing multiple speeds. As an example, freeway speed of approximately 70 speedometer will read 0 at times, 40 at times or even may read 120, very erratic.

8 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/05/2012

My speedometer stopped working. It used to either stay on 0 or go up to 90. I have been stopped several times for speeding because I can not deternine my speed. Since that broke, I have also lost all of my other instruments, including gas. . . I ran out of gas on route 495 in the middle lane going about 60 mpg!!! thankfully I did not panic and was able to get my flashers on and move into the slow lane and tehn to the break down lane. I have had many people tell me this is a recall on the GMC pick up trucks but not the Envoy!!!! does someone need to get killed in order to have this corrected?.

9 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2011

The cluster instrument panel flashes on and off guages are all incorrect from time to time and do not work some times.

10 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2011

The contact owns a 2004 GMC Envoy xl. The contact stated that while driving 60 mph, she attempted to accelerate further when the accelerator pedal depressed all the way to the floor. The vehicle began to surge forward until being shifted into neutral. The vehicle was then stopped and shut off. Upon restart, the vehicle operated as normal. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 79,000 and the current mileage was 79,061. The VIN was unavailable.

11 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2011

Own a 2004 GMC Envoy and I have problems with the fuel gauge and the odometer. The fuel gauge goes past the f line when the vehicle is not on fuel. Also the odometer will stop working or get stuck on 10-15 mph. He happens often. . . Every other day. I was told that it would cost 1400 to fix and a possibility it may not fix the problem.

12 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/07/2011

Tl-the contact owns a 2004 GMC Envoy. The contact stated while driving the speedometer goes over 125 mph and when he stops the gauge would be on 50 mph or 70mph. He does not know how fast the vehicle was driving. The manufacturer was contacted and stated the vehicle was out of warranty and they will not repair the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 124,000 and the current mileage was 127,400. . . Mw.

13 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/18/2010

My 2004 Envoy xuv speedodometer stuck at 55mph. I spoke to dealer technician and was told I had to replace the instrument cluster because of a small thing called a stepper motor. This seems to be an on going problem with gm vehicles. I strongly suggest a safety recall because this is failing on thousands of vehicles.

14 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2010

My speedometer has stopped working. The gas gauge says empty when I have just fueled the car to full. The car will surge forward when I am backing out of the drive way and putting car in drive. I have to immediately press on the brake and return the car to neutral position to stop from running into parked cars or the curb. Tonight we were leaving the park and both headlights ( low beam) are not working. All other lights and flashers on the car work. The interior light on the left half of the a/c controller does not work. The motor in the rear window went out. The dealership charged me $ 1000 to replace the motor and then they advised me that the middle window motor was bad and that would be an additional $600 to repair. I only could afford the back window motor. This car is my only mode of transportation and I cannot believe that gm has npt placed a recall on all of these issues.

15 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/13/2010

2004 GMC Envoy slt- headlights go off with no warning at night- happened on a dark road, almost went in a ditch- also, speedometer does not work.

17 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2010

I like to know if you receive any complains or somebody report problems with accelerator pedal for GMC Envoy (02to05) like loosing power no accident but can cause some thanks [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

18 Vehicle Speed Control problem

While driving my n2004 GMC Envoy, myn speedomotor quit working and shows speeds over 100mps when driving. When in park, off or idling, the speedo needle is never at zero. . . It is at 30 or 40 mph during these times. I do no know how fast I am going.

19 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2010

Oil gauge stopped working since 2010. Changed oil pressure switch, but oil gauge still not reading. Speedometer gauge started giving false readings since early 2011. Fails to read correctly since, reading up to 200mph @ real speeds up to 40mph. About a year later rpm gauge failed and stopped working since early 2012. We never know what speed we are going with a lot of risks involved, including speeding tickets or else. There are many owners with same problem, with costly repairs and sometime no fix. Hoping for GMC to step up to the plate.

20 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2010

2004 GMC Envoy. Sudden momentary engine surge. Occurred at low speed with foot on brake pedal. Six occurrences , four within last few months. Gm dealer checked said all systems were ok, gm corporate notified said no history this type of failure. When surge happened quick shift into neutral prevented damage. Engine surge lasted only a few seconds and then returned to normal. Since problem is intermittent gm offers no help other than bring it back to dealer for recheck.

21 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2010

The speedometer quit working around 40,000 miles. Checked with dealer and found out there is no recall and it would cost around $700 to fix.

22 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2009

In the process of making a left turn, (dead end - no oncoming traffic) the vehicle failed to get up to speed after depressing the accelerator in order to make the turn. A warning light came on that had never been seen before; it was the "reduced engine power" light along with the "service engine soon" light. The way was clear to put the vehicle in reverse and back into a gas station. A prayer was said before continuing on to the destination at hand with a trip to the dealership in the am. The vehicle was tested at the dealership with the "found code" p1680. . Gas pedal shorting out. Pedal was replaced, retested, and approved without a recurrence of the code. Two months have passed without a recurrence so far. The total cost was $191. 85. Thank god it didn't cost a life! the old part is available; teleflex 15187573 g03302 2 360-133143 passed made in mexico 400421 could not allow this to happen again or to others; repaired immediately due to dangerous to fatal consequences if turning left in front of an oncoming semi. This complaint is to inform others of a potentially dangerous situation regarding their gas pedal.

23 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/06/2009

The spedometer would stick at various speeds and drop back to normal when the vehicle is started. Now it permantely stuck at 120 mph.

25 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/13/2008

After driving vehicle tends to lunge forward even after brakes are stepped on or after parked at a red light, in the first case driving at highway speeds, the speedometer freezes and hangs, during this occurrence we do not know what speed limit we are going which is scary and a safety concern especially with children in the car, to troubleshoot the problem and bring speedometer down to zero mph, the car would need to be turned on and off numerous times to set back to zero.

26 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2008

The contact owns a 2004 GMC Envoy. When attempting to accelerate, the vehicle hesitates abnormally. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer, but they could not duplicate the failure and provide a remedy. The failure and current mileages were 75,000. Updated 06/03/09 updated 06/04/09.

27 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/29/2007

I own a 2004 Envoy xl 2 wd. It has 40,000 miles on the odometer. On three different occasions the speedometer read zero while the car was above 40 mph. The speedometer remained off line until the next time it was stopped with turning off the ignition. Upon start up,the speedometer needle began to recognize the actual speed variations of the drive. Undocumented rates of speed could cause accidents. When will the next time when this recurs on the vehicle? will this and/or could this cause an accident?.

28 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/29/2007

I was driving in town and my speedometer stopped working at 0. The oil gauge is not working, pegged out at the max and my engine light is now constantly on. These events, particularly the speedometer not working, is a major safety hazard. Not driving at controllable speeds can lead to an accident and death. The parts and labor to fix this problem is $550. While researching this problem on the internet, I've found out that this is a common problem with GMC's in this year. There should be a recall with the cluster unit on 2004 GMC Envoys. GMC should try to prevent deaths that their products may create.

29 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/14/2006

Speedometer was erratic. Sometimes registered higher mph than the vehicle was moving. Turning the vehicle off & restarting will bring it down by 10 mph each time. Very unsafe to be unaware of the speed you are traveling!.

30 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2006

2004 GMC Envoy speedometer slows down to zero at highway speeds.

31 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2006

: the contact stated while exiting the off-ramp of the highway at 20-25mph, the check engine and reduced power light illuminated and there was a loss of all vehicle power. Although the engine restarted after several attempts, the vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection. The dealer determined the accelerator sensor needed to be replaced. Afterwards, the loss of power persisted and the accelerator sensor was again replaced by the dealer as well as the computer. Additionally, the horn intermittently worked, but the horn was not inspected.

32 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2005

The contact owns a 2004 GMC Envoy xl. While pulling into driveway at 5 mph the vehicle would not stop, it accelerated and then I hit garage.
