26 problems related to other fuel system tank assembly have been reported for the 2005 GMC Envoy. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Fuel gauge is erratic. After I fill up the tank, the fuel warning light comes on, the gauge is on empty and the message "low fuel" displays. This happens when the vehicle is stationary, in motion, on a city street and on the highway.
My gas gauge stopped showing how much gas is in the tank. Even when it is full, it still shows that it is empty.
The fuel gauge reads faulty, will fill up the tank and it will show as empty, then it will show 1/4 full and needle will fluctuate intermittently between 1/4 tank and empty. Has been diagnosed as the fuel level sensor.
Filled up gas tank to full, when pulling out of gas station, fuel light came on and gas gauge showed it was empty. After driving for a short while gauge started to go to full. This happens everytime I fill up for gas.
I filled up at the local exxon gas station and when I started the car the fuel guage reads empty with the yellow light illuminated. Tried starting the vehicle several times,to no avail. Carried car to a mechanic and diagnosed the problem as the sending unit in the fuel tank. Repair cost roughly $800 - $1000 dollars.
I filled my tank at a gas station and when leaving the "check engine" light came on and the fuel gauge dropped down to "e" and low fuel light came on. After 10-15 seconds the fuel gauge went all the way to "full". A few minutes later it did the same thing again, and has continued.
We started noticing after a fill up at the gas station the gas guage still showed empty. The guage took over an hour of driving to move up to full. In the middle of the week last week the vehicle ran out of gas and stalled. We added half a tank, but the guage still showed empty the next few times it was driven somewhere. Last weekend I filled up again and the guage showed empty still with warning indicator on. Again it took over an hour of driving for the guage to register the tank even 3/4 full.
2005 GMC Envoy bought in February of 2011. A few months later the fuel gauge only registers as empty regardless of how much fuel was added to the tank.
Gas gauge continuously fluctuates between empty and full even with a full tank, this also causes the engine light to come on. There has been numerous complaints from other owners with the same problem but a recall has yet to be issued. Called the dealer and they said they will cover half the cost. Why not the whole cost since this issue is so prevalent?.
Tl-the contact owns a 2005 GMC Envoy. The contact stated that when driving at various speeds the gas gauge would jump around and she would not know whether her tank is fuel or empty. The contact also noticed that the check engine light has been illuminated for a while. The contacts speedometer has also failed. The vehicle has not been inspected by a dealer or an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was contacted and they advised her that she would have to pay half for the repairs. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 119,224. The current mileage was unavailable. Tb.
The gas gauge went crazy. I filled up my tank but the gas gauge is showing incorrect readings. It jumps left, and right at random times, and sometimes reports that the fuel tank is empty even though I know it's full.
I was driving my 2005 GMC Envoy through a parking lot when the engine failed, causing the car to jerk and come to a sudden and complete halt. The gas needle suddenly registered on empty (although there was fuel in the tank) but the SUV wouldn't restart so I had it towed. Per the independent mechanic's diagnostics, the fuel sending unit was bad, which caused the car to stall. In addition to that, the fuel level sensor was bad and required replacement along with the tank. GMC had direct mailed me a letter several months prior regarding a fuel system issue; in that letter, GMC offered to pick up 50% of the costs of repairs. I contacted customer service to get information about the process and to confirm that it would be honored prior to towing the vehicle to the dealership, which I reiterated several times. During that call, I provided the VIN, mileage and a description of the problem per the independent mechanic. GMC customer service bridged in the local dealership, who agreed that the work could be done within a day's time. Neither provided any caveats to honoring the "special coverage" offer. Based on our verbal agreement, I towed the car to the dealership who later agreed the fuel level sensor failed but stated the sending unit and tank weren't in need of repair as they'd put in 5 gallons of gas and started the engine. They also provided an estimate of $1150 for all of the work with the expectation that I'd pay 100% of the cost. After several calls/escalations, GMC refuses to pay any portion of any repairs not because the system wasn't faulty, but because my mileage exceeded their 120,000 mile "special coverage" limit (which was only disclosed after multiple calls). GMC has shown no regard towards the safety hazard the faulty system presents to my life nor my passengers' lives or any unsuspecting motorists traveling the same course should the SUV stall again.
I have a fuel gadge that read full but my tank was empty my son and myself was on the hwy ran out of gas and had to get out and walk as it was 100 degrees outside I had to push him into a ditch as we almost got hit by a semi truck they say its not a life hassard however had I not pushed him and jumped myself we would have gotten hit and killed how is that not a hassard also what if we would have had someone stop and try and hurt us . . . . . . . . . There are alot of strange ppl in this world and alot of things can happen when you run out of gas due to a faulty part.
While driving speed control goes back and forth. Also when come to stop it stays stuck? fuel gauge does not properly display correct amout of fuel in tank.
I filled up my2005 GMC Envoy xl slt when it had 71,000 miles. I had no previous fuel gauge issues. Started the vehicle and fuel gauge went to empty even though I had filled it completely. I don't have the money to repair so have been driving it for the past month and this has been a daily issue while driving. The fuel gauge fluctuates between empty and full and will stick on empty and the bell chimes constantly even when I just filled it up. I have no way of knowing exactly how much fuel is in there except to monitor miles driven and fill it back up more frequently. I feel this is a safety issue. What if my calculations are incorrect and my vehicle stalls on the highway. I have two young children and am afraid of a stall happening resulting in a crash. The fuel gauge is not working. I have no way of knowing exactly how much gas is in there. Again. . . The gauge will go back and forth as I am driving. I can start a drive knowing it is full but the gauge will say 1/4 tank and it will jump all the way back up to full and then down to empty which causes the low fuel signal and beep to go off. This happens daily. I have done research and am seeing alot of complaints from GMC Envoy owners experiencing this same issue and gm does not consider this a problem. This is a safety issue and should be corrected by general motors. It shouldn't take someone to die to get gm's attention on this issue!.
2005 GMC Envoy fuel gauge sensor. Vehicle has 48,000 miles and when I fill up the gas tank the fuel gauge goes up and down and stays at empty with the light flashing. I never know how much fuel is in the vehicle.
I have a 2005 Envoy and it just started smelling of gas fumes really bad and as I was reading some information on your site I have also agree it is a manufactureing problem you see where it was sealed not by oil clay or any gooey substaince of that sourse its secured by welding I know this because I work for nummi and I was a qc inspector and did the tear down on the gas tanks for safety it sounds like some tanks slip by because not every one is ck there random checks I beleive its the o yes o ring that was not properly welded properly causing leeks that is the gas fume I am smelling in my current Envoy (2005) . And yes it is a safety issue people can die from these fumes you know it and so due I . Let me tell you about what had happen one day there was this gentalman who was on the job and lots of gas tank slip through that day rolling off the assembley line and ship out to dealer ships where the o rings were not holding up during the tear down process of the inspection. Well need less to say the units went out to be sold to consumer . And they wanted to fire the inspector but they just suspended him for a week. Another problem occurred on my inspection route in body n weld I had found a split on the floor pan of the corolla very large and hard to see guess I just got lucky but so the manager at that time was a female and she went to the end of the assembly line and sure enough those split had been ship out to the dealer ships they turn a blind eye to the ones that were ship you see if you know nothing about medal it will continue to split of course the carpet cover it who will know . The reminding ones well they place a spot weld on each side of the split and some sealer. With that said I certainly believe the manufacture is certainly responsible and pay for these repairs no matter the mileagge or the year. By the way I work in the body-n-weld shop. It is not a ware and tear issue.
On regular basis would add 10 gallons per fill up, then during a long trip filled the tank completely: which then the fuel gauge showed empty. Then went up to about half. Now after 10 gal. Fill the gauge read empty or about 1/4. Have not none much after learning this is a very common gm problem. First time in my life (driving 27 years) ran out of gas right in the middle of a busy 4way intersection, honest truth. Do not want to have my family in car after this incident,.
Fuel gage in my 2005 Envoy quit working after a full tank of gas was put in. The gage goes up and down at its own will. Was told by the dealership that it was a fuel sensory problem and would cost around $600 to fix. They also told me that this is a common problem with GMC vehicles. On one site alone I found 500+ complaints on this issue. I think its time for a recall.
2005 GMC Envoy fuel gauge in accurate reading. Vehicle fuel gauge reading over 1/4 tank of fuel traveling down freeway vehicle ran out of fuel in center lane loss of power steering system and power brakes. Was able to get vehicle off to side of road without any issues.
2005 GMC Envoy 4. 2 l engine 69k on odometer. Re:erratic fuel gauge reading/set code and ran out of fuel on I -95 @ 1/4 tank reading. Filled up and shows less than 1/2 full. Major safety issue local gm dealer says a common problem . Must replace w/ new updated sender at owners cost.
2005 GMC Envoy gas gauge shows empty with light on even when the tank is full of gas.
Filled car up with gas and low fuel light came on. Since then low fuel light stays on even when tank is full.
Fuel level sensor in my 2005 Envoy malfunctioned. Does not register how much fuel is in the tank. This has been an on going problem for months. I noticed an investigation was open in January 2010 but was hoping a recall would have been filed by now. I did research and have noticed there are hundreds and hundreds of the same problem being reported on-line. I just wanted to file my complaint in hopes that something will be done to have this part replaced.
Purchased the 2005 GMC Envoy xuv used in 2009 with 41000 miles. Within 3 months the Envoy started having rear door latch failures. The rear door and glass can be opened in a traditional side door mode or a truck bed mode. Frequently the electronic latches that operate to let the door function in either way would fail. The Envoy has been in several times over three years to have all the latches repaired and or replaced. Each latch has been replaced several times. When the latches fail, and they have failed in a configuration that when I tried to open the door in a side door way, three latches let lose and the door fell open with only one latch holing the rear door on. I was forced to have to lift the door back into the slots where the door pegs lock into the latches. One time three latches failed and I had to use bungee cords to keep the door closed so that I could drive it to the dealer to have the latches replaced. The dealer charges me 50 dollars per visit per the warranty, however the vehicle has to go in at least 3 times a year to have the latched looked at and repaired or replaced. They replace the fixed latches at no cost but I still get charged 50 dollars for the visit. The warranty is soon to be off this vehicle. Also the gas guage failed to operate correctly within months of owning the Envoy. The gas gauge would show more fuel then what I had, or show no fuel whatsoever even though I had just filled the gas tank up. The gauge needle would bounce back and forth all the time or get stuck full or empty as well. It was found that there was a bad fuel level sensor in the tank. It was replaced. I have also had to replace the front pinions of the Envoy twice during the three years I have owned it because they were leaking. I have also had to have the differential carrier overhauled because the front differentials were both leaking. These pinions and differential repairs were three different visits to the dealer, not at once.
Faulty fuel gauge on 2005 GMC Envoy, slt. Everytime the tank is filled, the gauge in the instrument cluster reads empty - sometimes it will rise to about an eighth of a tank, but shortly thereafter, it will go right back to empty. This problem has persisted for over a year now. There are thousands of participants on online forums with the same problem for several various gm brands. The average cost to rectify the problem is well over $500. 00. The problem not only affects recent model vehicles but, it appears to affect earlier gm model vehicles as well, some as old as 1998. The problem appears to be a known defect, as many people have taken their vehicles to mechanics and/or the dealership to have the problem addressed. Nothing has been done to rectify the problem nor provide a resolution to the problem. The situation can manifest into a more sever problem should someone happen to run out of gas on the highway due to a miscalculation of fuel consumption or, even electronic instrumentation failure [which is also happening when attempting to read how many miles one has driven].
