Four problems related to structure have been reported for the 2005 GMC Envoy. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
2005 GMC Envoy xl back rear door window bracket detached the first time, the second time the bracket itself broke and shattered the rear window. This is a design flaw that people all over the the country have experienced. I am trying to get warranty to cover it but they keep telling me they don't cover broken glass, well if the bracket didn't snap in 2 the glass would not have broken. I am very lucky I was not blinded by the explosion of glass. I took pictures which show pieces of glass over 20 feet away. I also read post by other people where children were cut in the face a scarred by this same event.
May 18, 2010 6pm driving home from chena hot springs road at the speed limit 55 miles per hour the rear hatch plastic was rattling as usual at that speed. At about 1 block from college road turnoff while still driving on johanson hwy the right side of the plastic cover broke and was hanging down over back window. I reduced my speed and stopped and tried to place right side back up and seen it was still attached on left side. I drove the rest of the way home very slow. When my husband got home I had him remove from left side. This piece is 3 foot 10 inches by 10inches. It also holds my (chmsl) lamp. This is the third time it has falling off. 2006 local GMC replaced because they sold it to me. 2008 it flew off while driving 55 miles a hour and luckly no one was behind and no one was hurt. I believe this is a factory defect and GMC needs to fix this permanently before someone gets hurt. They state condition cause is a poor bonding of the double-sided adhesive tape between the chmsl applique and the liftegate glass. Quote from GMC 2008 #01-08-66-007c: center high-mount stop lamp(chmsl)a[[lique loose (re-tape applidque)- Aug 27, 2007. I spoke with jeremiah from GMC he states they (GMC) will not do anything and see no problem and that I should not use hatch in the winter time. And by the way I have not used my hatch in the winter months since after the 2008 repair that the GMC local dealer fixed as a courtesy I choose not to take any chances. I also avoid driving over 50 miles an hour. Miliage on my Envoy today is only 31,192 I avoid long trips too. I am not asking for a new car I just want to be safe driving 55 miles an hour. I think it is a defect design the plastic sits up and the force of the wind hitting at over 50 miles an hour it rips it off!! thank you for any help in this matter.
I have a 2005 Envoy that I purchased less than a year ago from a local Chevrolet dealership. On the day of the failure, I did not drive the vehicle to work. When I returned home, I found that the back trunk hatch had somehow opened on its own, causing it to separate from the glass. The trunk hatch was broken in such a manner that it could not have been brought on by another individual or object. After noticing this defect, I contacted the dealership. The automobile was taken to the dealership the next day where they filed a claim with the warranty company. However, the service technician decided that the struts were not the cause of the defect and worked properly and could not hypothesis on why this failure had occurred. He reported this to the warranty company who thus denied the claim because they do not cover the glass on the automobile. I was displeased with the outcome and contacted both the warranty company and the GMC headquarters myself, hoping that this initiative would resolve the situation. It is my belief that there is some type of defect that caused the hatch to open on its own. The company will only replace the struts and are requiring me to pay for the glass replacement and labor for something that I neither caused nor could have prevented.
My son was killed in a rollover accident on 4/18/06. He was ejected through the driver's side door in which the top part of the door was pulled away from the roof of the car during the rollover. By looking at the tire tracks of the accident, he was just entering the on ramp of the road and the tracks show no skid marks, swerving, etc, just a straight line into the ditch as if he didnt have control of the steering or brakes, possible stalling ?? both tires on the driver's side were flattened. Air bags were never deployed.
