Four problems related to alternator/generator/regulator have been reported for the 2006 GMC Envoy. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Tl the contact owns a 2006 GMC Envoy. The contact stated that the motor in the driver's door shorted out and the window regulator and motor were burnt. As a result, the vehicle almost caught fire. Smoke appeared from the door panel, which the contact managed to put out. Coyle Chevrolet Buick GMC (1801 broadway st, clarksville, in 47129, (812) 218-1100) diagnosed that the vehicle needed a new power window switch, fuse, and harness. The repairs were completed by an independent mechanic. When the contact discovered that the vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign number: 13v248000 (electrical system, visibility), the manufacturer was called and advised that the vehicle be taken to the dealer for reimbursement. The dealer did not reimburse the contact and presented the repair paperwork to the manufacturer. The contact was informed that reimbursement was not an option since the vehicle was repaired outside of the dealer and manufacturer. The contact stated that he did not know of the recall because he was not sent a letter. The failure mileage was 148,000.
The contact owns a 2006 GMC Envoy xl. While driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. In order to restart the vehicle, the contact would have to jumpstart the battery. Shortly after charging the battery, the failure recurred. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who stated that the alternator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 123,000.
Tl - the contact owns a 2006 GMC Envoy. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled while driving approximately 30 mph. The contact merged to the shoulder, powered off and restarted the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician stated that the alternator and the battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on multiple occasions for the same failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000 and the current mileage was 104,000. Kmj.
Have had to have the alternator repaired three times. First time 65000 miles because of noise. Second time voltage regulator third time rear bearing. Had to have the onboard computer replace at 90000 miles vehicle shut down and would not restart. Towed.
