15 problems related to steering have been reported for the 2006 GMC Envoy. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Steering wheel locks. It cannot be turned to the right as it will cause the entire care to swerve. When reversing the car turns in the opposite direction of where you are turning. I'm backing into traffic and have to manually pull the steering wheel as if there is a power steering issue. Engine light came on day after purchase indicating I need catalyst converter and sensor. No way to predict which way the car will turn. If I hit a bump the car swerves to the right causing me to swerve into next lane. In motion I am constantly swerving into danger.
Tl the contact owns a 2006 GMC Envoy. While making a sharp turn, the steering wheel made an abnormal noise and became difficult to turn. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA campaign number: 05v455000 (steering). The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the soft copper high pressure hoses; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic and the high pressure hoses were replaced again. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.
Difficulty steering when making a left or fight tight turn.
For more than a month my truck has cut off completely as I begin to break when I I am coming to a stop or when I am making a turn into a parking lot or at a corner. Sometimes it happens several times in a row during one trip. It always happens when I am in motion but once I turn on the hazard lights, put the car in park, turn off the ignition and restart it, it cranks right back up. I was told, based on my description that it could be a manufacturers defect in the turndown solenoid switch or sensor associated with the automatic transmission. This is a safety issue but I need my vehicle. This problem always occurs when I am on a city street. It has never happened on a highway/interstate when I am in perpetual motion. This is the only vehicle I have and I can't afford to leave it for more than a day at a shop, nor do I think I should shoulder all the responsibility for paying for repairs if it is a defect inherent in the vehicle. Please advise me as soon as possible if there is any recourse I can take against the manufacturer so I can have these needed repairs done immediately. I have already had the gear shift cable replaced about two months ago thinking that this was the problem. That was a $250 job with parts and labor.
Envoy GMC 2006 power steering becomes difficult at low speeds. Must use two hands to turn wheel. Power steering fluid not the problem. Engine light inadvertently comes.
The contact owns a 2006 GMC Envoy denali xl. The contact stated that while driving at 55 mph, the steering wheel seized and the brakes failed without warning. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 157,239.
While driving at highway speeds. I tried merging on to a different lane to take my exit and I realized that the steering on my vehicle was very stiff. As soon as I got off the highway I tried turning on to a side street and found that steering the vehicle was nearly impossible. My car has been in park for the past few days since I am unable to drive it. I waited on taking it to a mechanic because a friend of mine said there may have been a recall on the power steering hose on this vehicle.
Gm ignition switch problem with suvs!!!!!!! was driving about 45 mph with our grandkids and all power was lost. No power steering, no brakes. Radio and electric windows still worked after stopping (luckily safely). Service repair reported that ignition switch circuit that controls the engine shorted out turning off engine at 45 mph. This is the 5th ignition switch on this vehicle. Gm has a larger ignition switch problem than they are acknowledging. Luckily we just got off the highway going 70 mph or we would have crashed. Please research this class of vehicle (suvs/trucks) as I believe gm has a similar problem as the cobalts!!!!!!!.
Accident on 4/25/14 after my 2006 GMC Envoy shut off completely while I was making an left hand turn. I informed GMC of it but got no response. The vehicle has been doing this for the past 6 months. I have contacted GMC since the accident and still have gotten no response.
Noticed a no traction in my cluster one month before the accident. When I turned the SUV off the light would go away. I had a code check on it and had codes for my abs. Sensers where checked and tested. No fault in the sensers. The day of the accident as I was passing the person and switching lanes there was a red light ahead I applied my breaks and the no traction came on as I hit a small patch of ice. Traction did not kick on or abs leading me out to m-24 from a neighborhood road getting hit on the driver side fender by a chevy tracker. After much research and talking with ase techs. A defective steering positioning senser was defective and know in the 360 models to go bad. After the replacement no problem miles at 100097.
The contact owns a 2006 GMC Envoy denali. The contact stated while driving at an unknown speed, the steering wheel became difficult to manuever. The contact mentioned while starting the vehicle there was intermittently roaring noise and the check engine light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer however, the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 45,000 and the current mileage was 60,000.
Driving around a corner, wheels locked up, service stabilitrack light went on, steering wheel unresponsive to turning. Went to a shopping center and was unable to get out of parking space as wheels locked up and vehicle wouldn't turn. This should be a recall. The service stabilitrack light on dash can go on at anytime while driving. This can be dangerous when trying to turn on a busy street and nothing happens. It feels like the car is not responsive to the steering wheel, brakes and wheels.
Stability control light constantly come on for repair, second repair on fuel system, diagnostic shows problem in steering and right wheel.
When turning corners on smooth asphalt the stabilitrac light comes on and engages the system which causes the vehicle to momentarily slow down and makes a "growl" sound, this also effects the steering. It may do this multiple times per turn or only once. It has occurred at varying speeds (turns at 45mph and turns at 10mph). Started out only occurring during left hand turns, now happens on almost all turns. I have noticed it is much worse on windy days. The stabilitrac also kicks in when I turn onto gravel and start to speed up (not mashing the gas and spinning tires, but simply speeding up at a regular pace that should not pose problems).
1) fuel gauge reads empty- has been like this for about 6 months. Began as an intermittent problem, but now is always on empty. 2) power steering: makes a whirring sound when I turn the steering wheel - beaman GMC service in nashville has the detailed records, but I brought it in before for this, and it was repaired temporarily, but the sound has been back again for several months.
