Unknown Or Other problem #1

Gas gauge malfunctions after filling vehicle due to repeated, documented manufacturers defect in gas tank fuel sensor, possibily leading to a complete failure of indication system.

Unknown Or Other problem #2

My husband and daughter were in the house and heard a loud shatter. They went into the garage and saw that the rear window to my 2007 GMC Envoy was shattered. There was not anyone in or around the vehicle. The vehicle had not been driven in over 3 hours. There was frost on the windows 4 hours earlier, and the rear defroster was used, but did not have any problems with it. The hatchback and/or window was not opened or used the preceding 2 days.

Unknown Or Other problem #3

After unlocking and using the rear window glass multiple times daily, and twice earlier today, it exploded on the way up. This occured within the first 1 inch of travel swinging up and rearward from being closed with very minimal manual force applied. The temperature today is 27deg. F , which is not the coldest use this vehicle has seen. There has not been any previous damage to the rear glass or gate, or anything in the rear of the vehicle. I write this at the advice of many online forum posts and complaints that I read through. I am hoping there is some time devoted by general motors to finding a solution to this. I just had to ride home with wife and 4 kids shivering because of this. There seem to be hundreds of these spontaneous occurances happening in all types of climates and conditions, which is what convinced me I need to share my incident to fuel the cause. Thank god everyone is ok. It was cold and my kids had their hoods up and were looking down when this happened. This could have been much worse.

Unknown Or Other problem #4

The cataytic converter broke into pieces and the car would not go above 25 mph.

Unknown Or Other problem #5

I own a 2006 Envoy denali and last may 2010 I was driving down the a busy highway around 55 miles an hour and the truck just lost all power and completly shutdown. It took aleast three trys before I could get it started again. I was so scared that a tracker trailor would hit me from behind. It didnt do agin for a week , and then it happend again. I brought the truck to the shop and the throttle body was replaced at about 65,000 miles. Now its a year later and I again was driving on the highway and the truck engine light came on and all power was lost. I put my hazards on but could only get the truck to about 15 miles an hour so that I could get out of harms way. I called GMC to make an complaint as it is very rare to have to replace a throttle body every year. I take care of my truck and see no reason why it happning other than GMC defect. GMC did not help me and just said there were no recalls and that it was normal wear and tear. I no this to be untrue and I am very dissapointed with GMC and will never buy the product again. I have had nothing but issues with this truck, and after looking into it there are several other Envoy owners that are having the same problems as I am. I dont drive on the highway if I can help it at all, getting stuck in the middle lane with a truck that won't move is way to scary. GMC should have to make it right and recall the truck and figure out why the throttle body fails.

Unknown Or Other problem #6

The back window on my GMC Envoy 2004 exploded when my son was closing it. Thank goodness the glass pieces hit and cut his forehead and hand and not his eyes!.

Unknown Or Other problem #7

I heard am exhaust leak and was informed by the dealer that a cracked manifold was the cause. Cost to repair is estimated at $1100. 00.

Unknown Or Other problem #8

Gasoline and oil pressure gauges stop working suddenly on a GMC Envoy 2005.

Unknown Or Other problem #9

Informed by mechanic that exhaust manifold has crack and needs replacement.

Unknown Or Other problem #10

Exhaust manifold is cracked. Had exhaust manifold and gaskets replaced. Took 5 working days to fix. Checked on line and found many complaints on the Envoy and trailer blazer 's manifold.

Unknown Or Other problem #11

2004 Envoy xuv, impeccably maintained, had * response to accelerator as I made a left turn at a light across oncoming traffic. Service engine soon and reduced engine power lights illuminated on dash. Was fortunate not to have an accident. Pulled to side of road. Turned off engine. Restarted, and it ran okay but the service engine soon light reappeared. Drove another 35 miles with light on. The next morning it had re-set and the light is gone from the dash. How in the world does gm expect us to be able to replicate such incidents for a tech to fix? such failures will eventually kill someone.

Unknown Or Other problem #12

Speedometer works sporatically. Even when the truck is stopped its reading that I'm doing 50 miles per hour. 2004 GMC Envoy.

Unknown Or Other problem #13

I bought a use 2006 GMC Envoy denali with 69,000 mile in June 2010, by July I was replacing the air shocks on the right side of the vechicle. On about 7/28/2011 on the beltway where the speed limit is 65 I was in the far left lane approaching a left hand exit when my car staled, I had run out of gas with no indication. I wait over a hour for someone to come put gas in my truck at about 100 degree tempature. I later ran out of gas on a back road coming to my house at night. Again no indicator light came on to let me know I was low on gas. Not the gas gauge floats between fuel and empty contionusly. This was a very dangeous and scary situation both times. I flasher were on the whole time and I had to change the battery. Now the air will not come out of the vents only the floor and defrost. But the most important thing is the gas gauge, I could have me involved in an accident both time.

Unknown Or Other problem #14

While driving, several indicator lights came on in the instrument panel. (abs, seatbeat, battery primarily) these lights stay on for a while and then go off, one by one. After putting the car in park, the battery life meter dropped to zero. I turned the car off and the car would not re-start. After having it towed to a repair shop, the battery itself tested that it was good. I replaced the battery, anyway, hoping it solved the issues, but the lights on the instrument panel continue to turn on while driving. After a day or so, they turn off and then days later will come on again. I have had this car checked multiple times by two different repair shops and neither could find a solution outside of replacing the instrument panel. After searching the internet, this seems to be a known problem with this car and other GMC models have been recalled for the same problem. Why hasn't the Envoy been included? it's obviously a problem with this model as well. (although, other than the airbag recall, I have never received notices about any other recalls regarding my vehicle even though it appears there have been other issues).

Unknown Or Other problem #15

This is in addition to a previous complaint (tcn: dbn20-8138 refers. Yesterday my wife was driving my '03 GMC Envoy when it stopped at one of the busiest intersections in town. Gas gauge registered 1/4 fuel. After pushing it to a parking lot and attempting to start the engine, it started to flutter and stop, then nothing. Thinking it was the battery, had it recharged and reinstalled, same symptoms. Thought of other owners of '03 Envoys having probs with fuel gauge, decided to put more fuel which I was able to start the engine and drive it to my residence. The fuel gauge is a problem in addition to the rpm gauge as previously submitted. There are many Envoy owners experiencing these same problems with additional ones as see on edmunds Envoy forum. This could pose as a safety hazard, especially if my wife was turning into traffic and it suddenly died on her, rear-end collision would have been possible.

Unknown Or Other problem #16

The temp gauge does not read correctly when the engine is running in the correct temp range. The temp needle is either in the overheating position (red area) or totally past the max temp on the gauge, almost spinning like a compass. Because of this false reading I pulled my vehicle over on the shoulder of the interstate, thinking the engine needed to cool down. This was during rush hour traffic, and could have caused an accident on the highway. A search on the internet shows others with the same problem. GMC refuses to replace or fix the guage if vehicle mileage is over 70,000. Guages , oil, water temp, etc, are in vehicles to assist the driver with their driving and for safety reasons and should last a lot more than 6 years. Pulling over on a highway should only be done for an emergency, not because of a false reading, and may in the future, if it has not already cause an accident.

Unknown Or Other problem #17

The problem started over five weeks ago. The car would not start once I put it in park. I've had the park neutral censor switched changed and every time it happens which is after the forth or fifth time I put it in park. I've had the called towed over 10 times and my insurance has been canceled because of it. The dealership just keep tightening the gear shift but as I said when I drive it, it losen up and the same thing happens. I think it doesn't start because the security systems kicks in when I try to put the car in gear.

Unknown Or Other problem #18

While driving down a busy michigan highway I heard some rattling noise and looked in my rear view mirror as the entire panel above the rear hatch that holds the third brake light flew off my car. I wasnt able to retrieve it since it landed in the middle of the highway. I hope no one ran over the part causing damage to their car or worse yet swerving to miss it and causing injury or death. I have since seen 4 other Envoy xl's missing the same part! that's 4 other vehicles in my little town causing 4 potential accidents or deaths. After doing some research, it will cost approximately $520 for parts to replace and impossible to find in a junk yard. I would love to know how to proceed from here.

Unknown Or Other problem #19

I was getting my tank filled with gas and the fuel gauge needle pegged out past full, then bounced down to empty. It did this three times then went back to full. Since then it has continued to bounce around. The only way we knew if we had enough gas was to fill it and use the trip meter. The fuel gauge has ceased to move at all since April 2011. The check engine light has been on continuously as well since the incident. I love the vehicle but it is a major pain to keep track of the fuel when 3 people in the household rely on it. I looked online to see if there was a recall, only to learn this is a common complaint and nothing is being done about it. I priced a new cluster and it was over $500. Needless to say we still have to keep track of the fuel with our trip meter. Gm should step up to the plate and fix this issue. They had no problem taking a bailout. My family has been buying gm products for years, however, no one in my family will ever own another gm product if they can't do the right thing for their consumers, and do it now. Not 5 years from now!!.

Unknown Or Other problem #20

Fuel gauge system stopped working creating a dangerous situation since you dont know when you can run out of gas particularly on a major highway.

Unknown Or Other problem #21

The rear window on my 2004 GMC Envoy xl sle has shattered on closing for the second time in three weeks. I have contacted the gm dealer in our area and he denies that there have been any other problems like this with this vehicle make. It is January and the cold could be a factor; however, searches on the internet have revealed that this has happened to others in warmer climates as well.

Unknown Or Other problem #22

I have a 2005 GMC Envoy and I have had to replace a water pump, a blower motor wiring harness that melted into my truck, the lights are half out on me heater and my door panel where you put the windows up and down, the winshield wiper in the back works when it wants my speed ometer is stuck on 40 even when its off and my check engine light is on and I bought this truck less than 2 years ago!.

Unknown Or Other problem #23

We have had numerous electrical problems with the Envoy, but I am writing about the instrument cluster panel. The failure of the panel caused the speedometer to fail. The speedometer registers over 120 mph regardless of the speed of the vehicle, or whether the vehicle is turned off or on. The mechanic who investigated the issue stated that there were numerous diagnostic errors that had to be corrected before he could successfully diagnose the bad instrument cluster. This is a known issue with the Envoy, GMC will not accept responsibility and the failed instrument panel can result in accidents.

Unknown Or Other problem #24

The instrument panel cluster on my 2004 GMC Envoy is defective. Tachometer shows incorrect readings, gas gauge does not work, lights flicker and dim, half of the radio lighting is out. I 've researched this and have found this complaint is quite common. It seems that eventually I can expect the whole instrument cluster to fail!.

Unknown Or Other problem #25

My vehicle was making a jet like sound on start up and while driving and eventually the check engine light came on. It also was making a clicking sound from the electronic heating unit. I took it in to a certified GMC dealer and they said the clutch fan needed to be replaced (expensive repair). Could not tell where the clicking was coming from at the time (1/6/11 clicking will not stop - ended up being a door actuator). I did some research on these problem and they are very common in these vehicle. I called GMC customer service to make a complaint because at a little over 59000 miles these parts should not have gone bad. I wish GMC would consider a recall on this problem as well as other major things.

Unknown Or Other problem #26

2005 GMC Envoy speedometer malfunction. Speedometer is reading 120 mph at all times.

Unknown Or Other problem #27

2004 GMC Envoy instrument cluster ,speedometer sticks at 60 mph,gas guage does not work, warning lights come on and stay on until you stop and restart and then ,most of the time they go back to normal.

Unknown Or Other problem #28

2006 GMC Envoy; replaced timing chain, failure of fuel pump, oil pump, electrical system driver's side door, washer fluid pump, tailgate latch failure and rear wash fluid line failure. Replaced or fixed all issues except, tailgate latch, rear washer fluid line, oil pump issue and SUV will not hold oil pressure.

Unknown Or Other problem #29

This vehicle seems to have an electircal drain or electrical ghost of some sorts. The battery has been replaced by the dealer 4 time with the previous owner. That was the dealers cure. Then when I purchased it I replaced the battery. Then it was replaced for the 6th time 18 months later. The rear window on the tail gate kept going down on it's own until the motor flew apart. The window behind the rear seat went down on it's own and does not work anymore. The retractable back roof will not engage due to the rear window. Driving down the road the ac will come on by itself also the radio, the seat heaters. Now while I'm driving at night the headlights will go out on their own, luckily the bright lights still work, but that's not helping the poor soul in front of me. Gm says that there is no recall on any of this but I'm almost terrified to drive this vehicle or let anyone else drive it at night or anytime for that matter. Not to mention any kind of electrical problems that I may of overlooked.

Unknown Or Other problem #30

I have had 2 problems with this vehicle. The first one was at 28000 miles, about 3 weeks after I bought the vehicle. The resistor for the heat/ac fan caught fire while I was driving at about 5 mph in heavy traffic. The fire went out on it's own by the time I had room to pull over (about 15-20 seconds). I was unable to get the part replaced right away so I had to drive around in cold and icy conditions without even being able to run the defroster. The second problem was that at about 32000 miles my gas gauge broke. I had just filled the tank and was driving at about 65 on the highway. The gas gauge needle dropped to empty and stayed there. I made sure that I was not leaking gasoline and continued on my way. It worked intermittently for a while but is now completely broken. When I fill up my tank the engine light comes on for the first 25-100 miles and the gauge reads empty with the fuel light on. I am uncomfortable with using the 4wd or towing very much because even though I keep track of miles driven these things eat up more fuel. I don't want to run out of gas in the middle of the road. I have not gotten it fixed because of the repair cost.

Unknown Or Other problem #31

Check engine light accompanied by engine cut-off when cold weather since November 2009. Twice GMC dealership couldn't duplicate issue and no idea for check engine light. New development of fuel gauge failure each time of gas fill-up accompanied by fluctuating fuel level indicator. Clicking noise coming from gas pedal for 3 years with increasing frequency. Electrical system including gauges, speedometer, power steering noise, cruise control seem to be having issues. Dealership claims no recalls, but electrical issues appear to be common according to edmunds. Com forums for GMC Envoys.

Unknown Or Other problem #32

I purchased my 2003 GMC Envoy xl in 2008 from a NY dealer with 60,000 miles on it, the car didn't register any accidents with carfax. The day after I purchased the car my battery went dead and I was stranded at 7am with my kids. The dealer paid for the tow and replaced the battery. A year later while driving to my sons basketball game at night, the headlights completely shut off. I pulled over and used my hazards, my son inspected the lights and could smell something was burning. . The driver side headlight wire was burnt badly. We replaced the light and the wiring. The next day not only did the lights shut off again while driving at night, but I couldn't put my window up! the driver side window panel did not work, but the other windows worked fine. I paid $400 to have the panel replaced. (now the seat adjustment panel is not working on the driver side) the battery has been replaced 3 times in 3 years! when ever I would use the window, or the heat vent, or the charger inlets in my car the headlights would flicker dim. My mechanic did a amps check while my phone was plugged in,car was running, radio on, and heater on and stated the amps were fine, until I hit the window button, then the amps went way down. Cost to replace alternator $350. 00, that was in 2010, so far in 2011 I have awoken 3 mornings in a row to a dead car. I sat in the car with car off, doors locked one night to see what goes on over night. . Well the alarm sensor button didnt stop blinking red, the seat adjustments kept moving every 4 mins, the rearview mirrors were moving non stop, and the horrible beeping sound inside the car was non stop! the radio dash didnt shut off either, it was piping hot after a half hour of sitting.

Unknown Or Other problem #33

Dash gauges/ first the oil level gauge died, then the speedometer started acting up, it will say your going 200 mph, when your standing still. . . Then the speakers and the radio started acting up, work, don't work. . . Really concerned about speedometer, and if other gauges will follow suit.

Unknown Or Other problem #34

I have speedometer problems with my 2004 SUV Envoy xuv and I am believe this to be more of a recall problem than just bad luck and my hear shift in the truck is going out "the electronic acutator," all of this is just unreal with these car and trucks having these type malfunction and the make does not want to honor the repairs. I have never in my many of cars along with family member had auto repair such as this. I can't wait to got back to a foreign and I will never buy another GMC again. GMC said thy would get the deal to help with half the repair, but the deal here changed names and management from millsaps to teeams auto. These cars cost way too much for things like this to go wrong. I want to voice my opinion about to an organization that will at least read about it. The consumer has to pay way to much for something they already paid for. My truck is rolling miles that I am not really driving and this is sad. I made the mistake of getting this truck used and that was a terrible mistake especially when the maker does not car enough about the consumer to make it right. This is probably some of the problems with the economy now and that the little man has to pay the cost because the money makers will not honor right with the consumers, you can't cheat people and/or be dishonest and think it will not come back to you. I have not had performance failure, but I am concern about my safety with such problems as gear shift electronic actuator failing.

Unknown Or Other problem #35

Fuel sensor doesnt work. Started out sporatic now just sticks at quarter tank or empty varies at times.

Unknown Or Other problem #36

I purchased a new 2004 Envoy xuv from rally GMC in palmdale, CA (purchased in January 2004). At about 74000 miles (2000 miles after extended warranty expired), the speedometer started registering 45mph, regardless of what speed I was actually going. In addition, it now jumps from speed to speed in 5mph increments. I discovered this while driving from la to dallas on the interstate at freeway speeds in early December 2006. I originally thought it was because it was cold outside, and a sensor had ice on it. But after it warmed up and I found myself going about 80-90mph, while the speedometer registered 45mph, I realized the speedo had failed. I pulled the icu fuse and the speedometer reset and started acting ok for the rest of the trip. It faulted again about a week later and has never worked right since. Rally Chevrolet/GMC in palmdale CA quoted me a price of $600. 00 plus to fix it, plus an indefinite time in the shop.

Unknown Or Other problem #37

The contact stated the accelerator pedal in the vehicle became stuck under the floor mat. The contact stated the floor mats were too big. The vehicle was taken to the dealership and there was nothing that could be done about the problem. The consumer stated the pedals are designed differently now. Updated 02/06/07.

Unknown Or Other problem #38

I had a flat tire and went to use the GMC provided jack and spare tire. The jack was held in by a large rubber band that broke as soon as I started to remove it. When I went to lower the spare tire down I heard a "crunch" come from the gear end of the spare tire pulley. The spare tire pulley, which was made of plastic, broke into pieces and wouldn't allow the tire to be lowered anymore or raised. GMC should be ashamed of themselves for providing such a lousy system on something that is obviously used in an emergency situation. Nice way to save a few dollars.

Unknown Or Other problem #39

My mother proceeded to enter the vehicle on the passenger side using the assistance handle in 2003 GMC Envoy. The assistance handle broke off injuring (slight ligament tear) to my mother (76 years old). Surgery probable. Taken to dealer and assistance handle replaced. Called philip lancaster at gm to file complaint on Thursday, June 16, 2005--was told that someone would contact me regarding this complaint--haven't heard a thing. Philip's number is 866-952-4368 x58879.

Unknown Or Other problem #40

2003 GMC Envoy with a list of problems ** the consumer began to hear a knocking and pinging in the engine on cold starts and felt a hesitation when the automatic transmission shifted into gear. After many complaints, it was finally discovered the engine knock was due to shorter pistons in the re-designed engine and the hesitation in the transmission shifting required reprogramming. The consumer was told he would have to live with the engine knock, because it could be more trouble taking the engine apart. On a separate occasion, the engine stalled due to the battery dying. From April 2004 to October 2004 the battery failed several times and had to be re-charged. During that same time the engine light illuminated and each time it happened, the dealer would have to reprogram the engine computer. The radio was not functioning properly which primarily consisted of static. The driver information center control knobs as well as the radio knobs wore out. The front center console was loose. It was discovered that the engine light was coming on because the third stop light that's on the top of the liftgate malfunctioned. There was a short circuit in the stop light. The cooling fan broke, the brakes and the left front head lamp had to be replaced. The rear tail lights, directional and signal lights have been replaced several times. The lug nut broke while a replacement tire was being mounted on the vehicle. The front stabilizer linkage was replaced. The gas tank had to be replaced along with the fuel lines and a seal on the tank due to a leak. The seat belt was designed poorly and the belt cuts into the consumers neck. The drivers side door didn't close properly, the windshield wipers were replaced within the first 2 years.

Unknown Or Other problem #41

All these problems come and go, somtimes depending on the outside temperature. Some of it got fixed and came back again. The major problems are that the vehicle shuts down without any warning - no engine no electric nothing-, so its even not possible to call on star! the other thing is that the transmission start to shift gears while driving on a leveled raod at consistant speed. All this items got fixed and come back after a while. Dt.

Unknown Or Other problem #42

During normal operation of vehicle, engine check light illuminated, and then went off intermittently. Dealership has not been able to reproduce the problem. Consumer also stated that driver door mirror changes positons every time the vehicle is put into reverse, the memory does not retain setting position, gas mileage is poor.

Unknown Or Other problem #43

When my vehicle was under warranty I did have a problem with the lights going completely out for a few seconds at night while driving. The blinked off and then on again. When I took it in for a repair and mentioning all the little things that were not working before the warrranty was up I had mentioned that along with a few other minor complaints. The did not find any problem with the lights. I did have a problem also with the alignment and they said that was fine also and it was not fixed. But it definatly had a problem with that also. The same thing happened to me later on while driving at night when the lights went out. But they did come back on after a few seconds. It is a very scary feeling when driving in the country at night and the light go out. It has been happening more now. My vehicle has 55,000 on it. I think that is to premature to have such an expensive safety problem. I did call the dealer and he said that the lighting system for replacement is like $1,200. They only made that lighting system for 2 years and I can see why. It is faulty. Has there been other problems? please let me know what I can do about this. Thank you.
