Power Train Problems of GMC Jimmy

Tl-the contact owns a 1993 GMC Jimmy. The contact stated that while the vehicle was in reverse the vehicle became uncontrollable and was unable to be stopped by depressing the brakes. The failure to be has recurred three times. The manufacturer was notified, however the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 99,426.

The consumer was unable to drive the vehicle in any gear except first gear at 5 mph. Due to a failed transmission.

While driving, all panel lights came on while speedomoter & tachometer went to zero.

1998 GMC s15 Jimmy truck, defective encoder motor. On 3 separate occasions during snow storms the consumer had to rely on the 2-wheel drive to navigate on the roads covered in snow and ice without the benefit of the added traction of 4-wheel drive. Once the consumer was unable to shift from 4-wheel drive back to 2-wheel drive. This past winter, the consumer lost traction and skidded out of control. The dealer replaced the wheel cover.

Speedometer sticks when driving with lights on for 15 minutes or more. Dash gets very hot unless dash lights are turned to lowest setting. When dash lights are turned to the lowest setting, the speedometer begins to work normally.

While driving 70 mph speedometer was stuck, and did not show the speed that vehicle was traveling, especially when passing through a school zone.
