Transmission Failure Problems of GMC Jimmy

Automatic transmission failure at 83,000 miles . Transmission shop said they saw alot of these Jimmy with same problem, lost reverse first, then drove it to shop , in first geer. 1 week and about $2000. 00 for parts and labor.

Ignition switch has failed and been replaced twice in past 4 years (10/2000 & 8/2003). When it fails, the transmission fails to shift properly and the vehicle loses power and/or stalls. This creates a very dangerous situation, especially if you are in heavy traffic with your entire family. I have been told by gm technicians that this is a common problem due to poor design, engineering and mfg quality.

While driving vehicle stalled without warning. Dealer diagnosed that transmission had failed. Consumer made reference to TSB#010730038 from GMC regarding transmission issues that may result in failure.

I purchased a 2000 GMC Jimmy with 34000 miles on it and at 38000 miles the transmission failed. The sun shell granaded as the service people at GMC dealership put it. Now with 83000 miles the transmission did the same thing. Is there something wrong with the sun shells? is anyone else having this problem. All of my miles are highway miles and I have all my maintanence records to prove that I do scheduled maintanence on my vehicle. I also do not abuse my vehicle and do not tow anything. I'll go broke if the vehicle requires a new transmission every 40000 miles. Each time it cost approx. $4,000. 00 to fix. Can anyone help? thank you.

Consumer's vehicle lost reverse, 1st and 3rd gear. The consumer stated the transmission failed again.

Windshield wipers fail to actuate on an intermittent basis with no discernable pattern. Frequency of failure is increasing. When the wipers do fail sometimes they will activate after 15-20 attempts to turn them on. At times only stopping and turning off the ignition swithch and restarting the vehicle will get the wipers to activate. Transmission fbegan failing with occassional but noticable late and hard shifts from first to second gear . Engine light code scan indicated a failure of the valve body. Replacement of the valve body fixed the problem , but the addtional torque put on the drivetrain from the hard shifts most probably caused the failure of the rear u-joint as well.

Transmission failed on interstate and the emergency flashers failed, transmission has been replaced on two occasions, the electrical system experiences continual malfunctions (emergency flashers, brake lights, warning buzzer).

Transmission failed. Nlm.

When driving at highway speed and when turning a corner at 15 mph, applied the brakes, and abs system kicked in, causing the vehicle to slide. Also, power brake systmem went and transmission went failed. In addition, dealer replaced the brake pads.
