Tire Tread/belt Problems of GMC Savana

The contact owns a 2007 GMC Savana 3500 equipped with cooper discoverer h/t tires, size: lt26/75/r16 (na). The contact stated that the tread line separated on the rear driver tire and both the front and rear passenger tires. These were replacement tires. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the tires needed to be replaced. The front passenger and rear driver tires were replaced. The manufacturer was informed and stated that the tires were no longer covered under warranty. The VIN and dot number were unavailable. The approximate vehicle failure mileage was 70,000 and the tire failure mileage was 30,000.

Two tire failures within past 8 weeks. Bought four continental sport lt/SUV tires at walmart in colorado 6/18/04. Installed on 2001 GMC Savana (full size) passenger van 235/75r15. Tires have under 30,000 use by summer 2006. In June 2006, right rear tire failed with major tread separation and metal cords unraveled beneath tread causing egg shape and tire to become partial shrapnel. It was hot day; occurred within 10 minutes of driving at highway speed; tire pressure had been checked same day and was good per sidewall max psi rating. Replaced with pro rated discount. Today, Aug 29, 2006, another one of the tires failed in exact same manner! this was front right tire. Tire had separation just beneath tread causing egg shape and adverse handling. I have photos saved this time of damage. Tire pressure checked earlier same day and perfect per mfg psi rating on tire. Hot day (again), highway travel in arizona for one hour when tire failed. Tire coming apart internally, within tread area. I am now convinced something wrong with this whole batch of continental's from colorado in 2004. Perhaps you will find more complaints as motorists hit 30,000 mark.

While the vehicle was in motion, the rear tire on the drivers side peeled and the tire blew out and caused the vehicle to sway and the sway bar to break. On a separate occasion, the passenger tires rubber peeled away from the steel belt. As the rubber was peeling from the tire, it was hitting the sides of the vehicle causing numerous scratches and rubber marks as well as breaking pieces off of the rear panel.

While driving at 55 mph consumer felt as if the vehicle rolled over a bump. After stopping the vehicle and a thorough inspection con consumer determined that the tread separated from the tire. Consumer replaced two tires on the vehicle due to tread separation.

Consumer stated the passenger rear tire tread separated, following a loud noise, tire was not flat. The drivers rear experienced tread delamination. The tires were in great shape and showed less than 50% tread wear. (large portions of the tread separated from the tires and exposed the steel belts) the tires were noisy and out of balance. They were still under warranty and the consumer requested a refund. (one tire lost tread and held air, and the other lost tread and had gone flat) the consumer replaced all five tires at his expense.

Original tires on a 1998, GMC, savanna, dot xn11b1a247, lt 245/75r16. Tread separated from tire, it did not blowout. Tire did body damage to vehicle. Left rear and right front tire also had tread separation.

While driving, firestone firehawk ss10 tire p235/70r15 experienced tread separation, tread had fallen off on right front tire, was not a blowout. Problem with the tire has happened 3 times already. Vehicle towed to tire shop & replaced. Sent tire to firestone.

Vehicle was being driven by employee when the tread of the firestone tire came off, r4s lt24575r16, dot vn1181a247, driver was able to maintain control of vehicle but tread separation caused damage to vehicle, tire not involved in recall (oot-005). Cj.
