One problem related to steering column has been reported for the 1999 GMC Sierra. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Recall 98v242000 concerning steering gear/frame bolts: at any speed the steering wheel has too much play in it. Also, a grinding noise is coming from the steering column. The vehicle has been repaired twice for the same problem, but the problem still occurs.
