Cruise Control problems of the 2004 GMC Sierra

Two problems related to cruise control have been reported for the 2004 GMC Sierra. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2004

I purchased my 2004 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4. I put it in 4 wheel drive to go through some ice and it made a very loud clank. Not long after that when I put it in reverse or drive it also made the same loud clank. It did not sound like that when I first bought the truck. Now the truck has trouble going into 4 wheel drive and also gets hung in reverse. It has almost caused me to get in a bad accident. My cruise control also has have 6 malfunctions. I had the dealer fix it initially. I have fixed it subsequently due to the fact they said it was a blown fuse. The 4 wheel drive and transmission problems were addressed 3 times and all the dealers said nothing was wrong. An independent mechanic said there is a defect with my transmission and transfer case. That is it with the truck. Now just last Thursday Feb 3, my bridgestone tire separated. My tire dealer said the tire was defective. There was no evidence what so ever that there was any damage to the tire to cause the blowout. It should not have separated. It caused a fire. It was quickly put out.

2 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2004

Taking first road trip with 2004 GMC Sierra (3 moths old)in the middle of the nevada desert. The car was in cruise mode at 70mph and is just stalled. This happend at least 4 times over a stretch of 50 miles. Pulled to side of road and sat each time for about 15 minutes-(apparent cooling time)-and was able to re-start truck. We made it to bishop California dealer who tested it for lean fuel values but no engine light came on. They told us that they had seen several instances similar and suggested replacing the fuel pump. The fuel pumps seem to be over heating or acting up in higher altitudes. Part was unavailable for 10 days. We drove to reno in an effort to get it fixed at shop up there-part was thought to be available per dealership in reno but was not-the dealership was wrong. Made the trip back home (las vegas) with no further issues. Drove in the night when it was cooler and kept fuel tank filled. Las vegas dealership refuses to do anything since there is no further failure. I am a parapeligic and think that I should be able to expect a new vehicle to be reliable. I was also astonished that on star was unuseful in the middle of the desert so it would have done me no better than a cell phone at this point. We drive the truck only short distances in vegas and have not had any further issues 3 weeks later. Afraid to rely on it to go out of town though.
